I heard (in a bar as a matter of fact) that the Illmores don't make enough torque for big heavy old school v-hull boats and that a blown BBC is a better option. I've never even heard an Illmor run, let alone run one or been on the water with one, so take that for what it's worth.

If anyone is interested here is a direct comparison of the Ilmor 6-10 vs. the Merc 600sci on a 39 Quattro OL.

Back in early 2002 when we ran the 1st boat ever powered here in the U.S. with a Viper motor ( Natrix Marine ) we ran it back to back with a 500 EFI and the Merc. motor was about 1-2 MPH faster and felt stronger down low.If you look at the Viper engine we ran the exhaust was holding it back plus much more fine tuning was needed. Illmor then took over the project here in the U.S. and now the motors have quality exhaust, more HP, and better fuel pump, etc. etc.
I have not ran the Illmor version but I do like the flourescent green paint they offer with them.

Sounds a lot better than they do in the cars!
Like I said, I don't know anything about them other than what someone told me, and I'm not inclined to provide any additonal detail about the boat they were rigged in becuase I don't want to get anyone in trouble.
JO's done it, so I'd listen to him on this over me by a mile!
JO how what kind of performance were you seeing out of that boat and where is it now?

The viper motor got us about 76-77 while the 500 EFI was 78-79 MPH. Remember this was in 2002.The Viper motor has come along way from what I have been told. I turned the Merc. motor 5300 RPM while the Viper we were turning like 5600-5700 I beleive. It was quiet at low end and had a unique sound up top.Look at the exhaust we had to work with !!

Been kind of quiet, any news on the 41?
Its Friday, ...I'm not motivated to work yet....
BTW, I'll take one with a 6 pack bolster lay up, staggered 1400SC Chiefs 704 ci. and make it two of the ol'number 6's...

Keeping it as close to the Apache style as possible with steps and todays technology and of Coarse the "Pantera" name (not Panache) and we are sure to see the baddest 40's V out there. I am still scratching my head on the bumpers, I would just take Jo's free class and learn how to dock better and hang the pads. The bumpers sound a little wack to me. Although no where near as ridiculous as putting a "Beak" on the front your hull. Good luck Jo, post more pics for us. I may stop in Tuesday if your there.
