A step-bottom will net about 10-15% speed over a traditional V-bottom depending on a LOT of things. If a current 525EFI no-step 28 Pantera will run 75 mph, figure the high end of a 15% speed increase might net you +11.25 mph. That puts you at 85+ mph. IMHO, that's plenty fast in a 28' Single engine boat. If with the right dial-in, props, X-dimension, and tweaks, the boat tags 90 mph; that's plenty fast. Accordingly, the 700SCi/NXT1 may not be warranted.

Good luck Joe, Pepe, and Scott. I eagerly anticipate the results.

It takes 700hp to push a current 28 about 85mph. So, add about 8-10 mph for the step-bottom and you should be running md 90s. If the steps net you more then you may be knocking on the century mark! :D

I think it may take more HP than that

On the newer 28s a solid 700 HP and dialing the boat in correctly and 85 mph are there.Morgan send me this picture a few months ago at 83 MPH on GPS with a real ( on the dyno )650 HP 540 CI single carb. big block. It was in cool air on fresh water. He tried different props until he finally got the best results from a labbed 26' 4 blade bravo 1.

We are building for Scott ( Pantera28 TS ) a new twin stepped bottom 28' with a notch transom and are expecting to increase the speeds by over 12-15 % over the current non stepped 28'. Besides the stepped bottom we are also doing a few other changes to increase the performance on the 28'.

We also made new cockpit dash molds for Port and Starboard sides, new recessed hull side molds that will look incredible with LED lighting, and a few other changes in the cabin and cockpit upholstery. I will start a new thread soon with pictures as soon as the hull goes into production. We have put alot of hours into these new changes for the 30th anniversary Pantera 28' model.

Wow Jo! Morgan's dually goes 83 with the boat on the back! :D

I'm kidding! I know there's some significant differences between the boats from the '90s and the newer boats weight wise... I just couldn't resist the truck joke!

Here's the race boat...

I don't have any stats but I've seen it with the NXT on the back at the Rum Run last year.

Hey Guys:
