28 on ebay. What's it worth?

Someone has an 02 28 listed on ebay right now with no reserve. Have a buddy that's interested in it. He wants me to find out fair market value of this boat so he knows what to bid. If anyone knows the boat personally feel free to comment too.

Any input appreciated.

I like it. It was up for sale on ebay or some other site a while back, I remember the paint/setup. Hard to say what $, if I had to guess I would say mid 50's. Thats just a guess though, not sure what they are going for this year. I know the twin 496 boat sold this spring but no idea $ on it either.

88bullet 06-30-2011 07:50 PM

nice looking boat. salt water boat tho... its for sale on craigs list for 47k i highly doubt that if it doesnt get close to his asking price the auction will go full term. you will see it end early due to "item no longer avilable" . gauge bezels are corroding a little bit but other than that looks very clean. what are comparables selling for.. 29 fevers, sunsations...? in this market 47k seems a little on the high side. mid 30's all day long in my opinion

hotjava66 06-30-2011 08:04 PM

Mid 30's? Wow, I guess the rumor that the boat market has improved a bit are wrong. I would have thought it would be a good buy in the mid 40's, but maybe I am dreaming. Non Merc power though, and if its got some detail issues, maybe you are close IDK.

rchevelle71 06-30-2011 08:18 PM

Low 40's would be a good price if it checks out, 30's is crazy, it has the trailer, twins, and is relatively clean.

I was hoping you would see this thread. Your opinion of the value was going to give us a good idea.

Like you I thought the twins might add some value too. Non Merc power, but twins none the less.

I don't think my potential buyer is overly spooked by the saltwater use.

I think anything under 45 is a great price.Would be concerned about who did the motors though. The trailer is not included and no way that trailer is worth 4500.

Twins can go both ways, personally, I would prefer a big single, but some prefer the extra motor to get home just in case. Didnt realize the trailer is not included. I would say no more than low 40's if no trailer, and definitely get the motors checked out. Salt is not a big deal if cleaned up properly after running.

Im with Rob. Im not skard of any salt boats as long as its taken care of. Actaully i find most salt boats are better taken care of. Most guys wash the boat before and after. Then pickle the engines. Going for a ride in salt is way more work and that tends to keep done on take it out beat it up and toss it back on the trailer.

Does not come with the trailer.

buck183 07-01-2011 10:56 AM

The lack of a trailer is not an issue for him either. He's got that covered.

My guess would be: great deal in the high 30's, reasonable deal in the low 40's. I prefer a single in a 28' hull. Twins are twice as much everything when it comes to $. Not much more advantage on the speed side either. No trailer and dated paint job detract for me. Engine and drive rebuilds may not be that far off. Might need to hold some money back for that.

29.600 with 15 hrs to go.Bad weekend to end an auction.Even if it needs some work I still think this is a killer deal at that price.

ImaPoser 07-03-2011 10:10 PM

Ended at just over $33K. I'd be interested to hear if the deal actually goes through at that.

The deal ended at exactly $100 higher than what my man set as his max bid. I think had a buddy bid on it to cover his butt.

I'd be willing to bet it ends up back on Ebay...:drink:

RebarBox 07-04-2011 10:47 PM

I'm not bidding again if it does.

I am hunting a 28' Pantera if anyone knows of one. Single or twin, trailer or not, give me a PM

And Thanks Buckster!

88bullet 07-05-2011 03:06 PM

HMMMM mid 30's was a pretty good guess after all... I guess reality just set in a little bit with this boat market. it will be worth less in september. who gave the impression the boat market was improving????? let me know when the banks start lending money for boats and thats when the market will slightly improve IMO. if his buddy was bidding the boat up and just shot the sale i would be kicking his azz!

Stormrider 07-05-2011 03:40 PM

Back on Ebay... shocking!!!

Yup. So much for a no reserve auction. I'd report it to ebay, but they don't give a ****. So long as they get their fees, you can play any game you want.

RebarBox 07-05-2011 07:35 PM

I sent the asshat a question to see if the boat was for sale or not and also suggested he look at OSO's Pantera forum.

I'm still hunting a 28, but not one from 'specialtyboats'.:bsflag:

buck183 07-05-2011 08:03 PM

Gotta love the power of OSO.

They should have at least waited a few weeks to at least make itlook like the deal fell through:bsflag::bsflag:

rexcramer1 07-05-2011 09:30 PM

This is the third time for sure it has been listed, and probably the fourth since this winter.

Ebay is a complete joke anymore, if I had stock in eBay I would be selling now

88bullet 07-05-2011 09:34 PM

emailed the owner and asked if the deal fell through or if his buddy is paying the ebay fees for him lol... waiting for reply lmao!!

Twin O/B Sonic 07-06-2011 07:17 AM

Yep.

I've been watching it too. He can be banned for ghost bidding on it.
Was on s.fla craigslist yesterday.
Location shows about an hr north of me.

RebarBox 07-06-2011 11:54 AM

The e-mail received this am from seller:

Dear rebarbox,

Several reasons for relisting.Could not contact buyer.Did not receive a deposit within 24 hours as per ad.Relisted with carburators instead of fuel injected in the last ad

- specialtyboats

:bsflag: and good luck with your lastest auction...

Twin O/B Sonic 07-06-2011 01:42 PM

Interesting that....

it's back on C/L for $10K more than the closing bid on e-bay. Nothing like a used car dealer trying to sell a hot rod boat he took in on trade not knowing anything about.

Mine will be back together this weekend. Our poker run is the 16th. I haven't been able to go the last couple of years. I feel like I need to run it in our own local run at least once before I sell it. Either way it will be in the classifieds before the end of the month...

got pics of your pantera... some details?

duunoit 07-07-2011 08:29 PM

It's Griff's (and HotDuck and Dude!Sweet!'s) old boat. It's a 1996 28. I used the boat probably a total of 3 hours before I spun a rod bearing.

http://s1101.photobucket.com/albums/...96_Pantera_28/

The 525SC and IMCO drive are long gone. The current motor is a 548 that used to be Z.Zuperboat's. It's got a regular bravo drive.

I just got the motor rebuilt in March. I've got new oil lines and a new oil cooler for it.
http://s1101.photobucket.com/albums/...tera_28/motor/

It's in the boat but not completely hooked up. There's a couple of things I need to do (put the drive on, hook up the oil lines, clean up the carb, drain the fuel tank, put the hatch back on, put exhaust on, fill with oil, set timing).

I'll sell it complete OR without motor/exhaust OR without motor/exhaust/drive. Since the boat has a notch, the drive spacer will go with the boat regardless. Depending on price I may be able to help with delivery.

chrisbeitz77((at))gmail((dot))com
Make me an offer. I don't really care to get stroked about selling it, so if that's your plan, don't bother.

The end of the above post wasn't directed at anyone in particular... :D

cig92 07-08-2011 02:28 PM

very nice looking boat, i've always liked the look of the 28 pantera. that's a boat boat that will never go out of style. what are you looking to trade up to and what would you like to get for your boat as it sits.

onesickpantera 07-08-2011 03:03 PM

IMO that boat is worth low/mid 40's if the motors are strong. Problem is everyone wants fire sale prices right now. Ebay auctions never come close to the selling prices. I have a friend that sells a bunch of toys and he always puts the reserve high enough so it doesn't sell but still gets all kinds of interest. Not sure why you would do a no reserve auction???

I'm actually trying to downsize/cash out. Send me an email, we can talk about money.

Would agree with...

everything you said. Couple of issues w/this sale.
#1. the last auction the seller had the motors listed as EFI's which they are not.
#2. I think above kind of crap scares a lot of people away. If he's unsure of that (that's so obvious) what else is he unsure or guessing about.
#3. It's at a used car lot and not the previous owner. Huge crap shoot and especially when it's listed in S. Fla.
#4. A lot of sellers do no/low reserve to motivate people to bid. If they see a higher minimum they don't bid at all.
#5. Fire sale mentality big time. There are clearly those deals out there but if you find what you want or know what your rig is worth and don't need to sell it, stick to your guns.

When I saw this one sell as cheap as it did in the last auction I knew someone either stole it or the seller was playing games which it ended up he was. The reinforces #2. above.
