From that other thread, but I still prefer a single.

It really boils down to customer preferanceon this one.

The twin outboard set up when mounted on a short aluminum bracket allows adjustment of engine height up or down several inches. We balance the boat a bit diffrently with outboards than with an I/O and set up our engine room stringers higher giving added support to the transom.

You also have counter rotating props ( left and right ) but added drag by having an extra motor and prop in the water compared to a single. The bracket setback normally in the 18-20 inch range will allow us to mount the motors higher and get cleaner water to the props with less drag. Kind of like having a notched transom on the hull.

Like I said on my last post to you this set up is popular for salt water boaters to trim the motors out of the water if docked overnight.

The single 500 EFI will have a lower center of gravity but a fixed drive height when installed. After so many 24s built we know optimum drive height performance.I can honestly say that the 500 EFI is a great reliable package after running it in Factory class racing last year and putting it in major punishment over 12 races at wide open throttle for over 1 hour at times.

The outboard model with the extended cockpit allows us to extend the fuel capacity on the 24 to over 100 gallons of fuel.

You got to remember also with a 500 EFI Merc. you will run 5300 RPM at WOT and a 225 Pro Max will be in the 6700 - 6800 RPM range at WOT. The outboards will be more sensetive to throttling in rough water due to the increase in rpm and prop shaft durability (especially with 4 blades).

I think it boils down to what is easier for you to maintain and the area you will be boating at.Security of an extra motor for long trips is something to think about.

Speed and acceleration is pretty close.

If I can answer any more questions let me know.

Regards, JO

Doesn't mean it can't be done, I just haven't heard anyone boasting about it.
And my $0.02 is that when someone gets their boat dialed in right, they're talking about it.
Mine ran great.....It handled like it was on rails and LOVED the rough water. The boat was extremely fast and PULLED like a dragster.
