When the deck was originally installed there was no deck/floor to stringer/hull bonding. After I cut the floor out I decided I wanted to bond the hull/stringers to the re-installed floor. To this end I decided to install two small stringers near the hard chime and directly under the floor seam I made when I cut the floor out.
The new stringers were bonded to the hull then the deck was glassed to the stringer and then the floor was bonded and glassed in. Also, I glassed in another layer of 3/4 plywood on the bottom side of the floor where the pedestal seats get mounted. There was no issue with the bases being compromised but I figured 2" of substrate was better than 1" to lag screw the seat bases back to. Here are some pics of the new stringers and the additional floor "meat". |

Got the floor back in and started the gelcoat process in the bilge. I'm going for a smooth finish in the bilge so it requires a ton of sanding and blending. This is the waxed gel that I used a "dump" gun to blow in. It was tricky to get the hang of but it will be worth it in the end.
Here's a pic: |

On the rotisserie. This thing is as stiff as a wedding dick. I have the pivot a tiny bit too high so I can only swing it 90 degrees by myself. With a helping hand it should flip right over.

Looking good my friend!!! nice job!!

Vintage Chromoly........I've seen alot of methods to rotate a boat from a stationary position, but that's ingenuous!..........what gauge steel is that?
If I didn'e see it already half rotated I would have thought you would need bracing at the corners of the rotisserie frame so she won't pitch. |
Thanks Tim!
Scippy, the steel is 1/2 inch "c" channel. As I was building it I thought I would need angle braces as well but, the steel is so thick and stiff none were necessary. I can shake the boat with all my strength and it doesn't even flex. The funny thing is that when I'm done with the rotisserie, I'll probably burn it apart and scrap the steel. I got all the steel from a demolition job at work so I have only welding wire and argon gas invested in the thing. Maybe I'll try to give it away first. He back stand will fit any bravo drive boat but he front mount it custom for my hull. I'm sure someone could modify it to work on another boat so maybe I can pass it along to the next guy. Thanks to all who are following this grand experiment I call a hobby. |
VC,
At some point I intend to blue-print the hull bottom on the 27' sport before she's rigged. I have the advantage right now (like you I think) of a bare hull. I can't see myself on my back on a creeper undertaking a task like that. I'm sure it's down all the time, but not for me. I have the room and the shop to this in I just gotta believe...........Don't know how much your boat weighs, but mine seems like stone henge! |
Hey scippy. My boat is heavy. I'm guessing 2000 pounds or so bare. I never weighed it but it definitely has mass.
I sanded the bottom paint off my 75 searay micro hotrod and shot it with ppg concept on my back. Never again! If you can weld, you can fab up this rotisserie in a few evenings. Like I said, I'll give this one away when done if y care to drive to Ohio to pick it up. Probably a month or so before I'm done. Have a good day all, rob. |
If he doesn't take it when your done I will... Im just in Toledo......

Just dropped off my complete interior at xt-innovations.
After talking with Dave and his people, I knew I was in the right place. :coolcowboy::coolcowboy: |
Hi, out of curiosity, I have same boat and mine was converted years ago by previous owner to outboard on a bracket. I have same deck layout, looking at Pantera website, can't find any pics of that configuration. I ask as my boat never came with a title or any hin #s, so I am not sure if mine is a Pantara, Superboat or Excliber.. Mine is identicle to yours. I don't have any pics of mint to upload just yet.
|
It highly unlikely it's a pantera. They only made the first 4 boats with the rounded deck (Excalibur style deck).
Mine is #2 and has the HIN hand stamped in the transom. WCW is the HIN prefix for a true pantera and unless it's there, you likely have one of a different manufacturer. Still a cool boat but unlikely a pantera. Have a good night, rob |
Also, if you look closely at the "history" page on the pantera website, you will notice the #1 boat has the rounded deck.
|
Hi, my stiffiners along the stringers look similar to yours, ill try to get some pics today if I have time.. When I ground off all the old gelcoat from previous owner , I found a yellow boat, entirely inside and out, with a red stripe down the deck and top of transom.. Nice bright colors, just the gelcoat was too old to be saved. I wanted to rotisserie the boat, but didn't have the set up you had.

Hull 001 looks straight not curved on the deck, however your hin says all

Good choice on XT, they did my interior a year ago and it is very nice.
|
I think I can see the ridge that curves. If you are interested, I can send you my pics to compare, have to do that by e mail though.

Got a coat of catalized enamel in the bilge. It's as hard as a rock! Started to sand it back for the final finish coat.
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...psea461a31.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps7fdec226.jpg Block sanded the bottom all week long after work. It had several ripples and a slight hook on one side near the transom. Filled all the gouges and shot the waxe gel on the starboard side this morning. http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps09b47566.jpg I'll finish sand the waxed gel this week and shoot it with a finish coat of gel/durtec. Then, back on the trailer for final blocking and PAINT. |
work looks great, what color you going with?

I really like what she'll look like (post #100) after she's painted......................ppg concept is good even below the waterline?
|
Me too skippy. That picture is the inspiration for my color choice. I wrestled wih changing it because I was unsure if changing up the color was not keeping with the history of the hull. After much thought, I decided to paint it like the #1 hull.
The bottom will be gelcoat but I have used concept on the bottom of a trailered boat. I painted my little searay in 2003 with concept (including the running surface below the hard chines) and it had held up great. I'll be done with the rotisserie in a couple weeks if you are still interested in driving to come get it. FYI, I drove from Long Island to my place in 8 hours. |

When you think your close , I'll give you a call to discuss pickup................I'm probabely close to 7 hours away! |
Picking up the interior from Dave at xt-innovations tomorrow.
Sneak peak: Front buckets http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps84532811.jpg Embroidery on the back of the front buckets http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps7d3d9d1b.jpg I'll post a bunch tomorrow when I get the interior home. |

Hello all. Been slowly working on the 24-7.
I have the bottom almost wet sanded to 1500. Another day and I'll be ready to start buffing the gel. Once I get the bottom gel all buffed out, I'll put it back on the trailer and start mocking up the engine compartment. I have the carb at cfm performance getting the full treatment and the brodix heads are ported and going for a valve job this week. After the valve job, off to be flow tested so I can have some numbers for bob madera for a cam grind. Also, been toying with the dash console as far as gauge layout goes. Just thougt id post an update for those who may be interested. Have a good day all, Rob |
Started laying out the dash. I just got all my autometer marine gauges and angled bezels in the mail. Nice stuff!
I'll have: GPS speedo Tach Fuel level Fuel psi Voltmeter Oil psi Oil temp Water psi Water temp Trim Vacuum Also, bought the rest of the hardin external steering system (all the inside stuff) And lastly, bought a nice pair of lightning headers with dry tails last week. Some pics: http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps60a65c33.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...psc6d3893a.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps72491e1d.jpg Patiently waiting for warmer weather so I can get the hull in color. |
Nice work!! isn't laying out gauges on 24/7's a PITA! I'm doing new panels on mine right now. I didn't realize how small the dash panels are until I added a small GPS.

I agree. Not much real estate on these consoles.

Vintage, your Pantera is coming along really nicely!!!
I am currently designing my interior and am wondering what width you used for the pleats on your seats. Thanks. |
