Great job, like the old school look
|
Rob............Excellant job!!!
|
Thanks guys! It was nerve racking trying to pull the masking without fouling up the fresh paint.
|
Got the clear on and pulled the masking from the bottom.
I'm really glad I put the boot stripe and "pantera" in the paint. http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps2513b658.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps1c6288f7.jpg |

Started to cut and buff the paint. Man, what a job!
It's coming along nicely though. Here's the console finish buffed and somewhat mocked up: http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...psf9930f6c.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...psff2cc582.jpg |

Wow!
|
Looks absolutely amazing......Great job.

Going to shoot the deck today. I shot the sealer yesterday and it laid down nice and smooth.
This painting business is no joke! LOTS of man hours spent on this step. In the meanwhile, I ordered this custom made dry sump oil pan. 4 scavaging pickups feeding a barnes pump. -12 AN males welded in, two pickup ports on each pan rail. http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps7fb8e2b9.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps9d8ea12f.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps0c50fead.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps9f7b93fb.jpg I'll post pics later after the paint goes on the deck. Have a good day all, Rob |
what are you doing for engine bay vents? I have the ones on the back but they suck in all the salt spray and it corrodes everything
|
The "windshield" masked off for paint:

Don't you have them ducted down to the lower bilge?
What width did you end up going with on your stringers? Is there a standard width for offshore mounts or is it different depending on the mount? ( i assume it would be) I have a line on stock 525 offshore mount, trying to figure out the width to glass the stringers in. Im sure you did your research on this so any help is appreciated. I should probably just buy the mount and see how it fits. |
Hey sparky.
I'll measure the stringers and report back. |
The space between the main stringers is 26.25 inches. I have a GIL offshore mount. Hope this helps you sparky.
|
thank you
i think i will just place them back at 30 inches. the mount i am getting is 28 inches wide with the hole to hole at 26 inches. Looks like the stringer height is not that critical (from what your pics show) maybe i will go higher, i made them tall so i could cut them down later if need be |
Finishing up the paint job. I cannot say enough just how much work this step is!
Playing around with a couple stencils I had left. The black stripe areas line up with the black stripes in the upholstery. I have a sun pad that covers the hatch but I thought it would be cool anyhow. Hello all. Still playing boat painter here.
I've got the deck and cockpit cleared and I'm cutting and polishing it at this time. Many, many, many hours with a bucket of soapy water, a hose and several progressions of sandpaper grits. Started with 1500, then 2000 (step I'm at in these photos) then it will be 2500 and finally, 3000 trizact on a 3/32" Hutchins DA. The polish is the presta "two step", water based, system. Great stuff! I'm going to re-sand and polish the hull sides as I tried starting at 2000 grit and there is still a faint "orange peel" I can't get over. Pics: http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps8384bae5.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps9237d7c1.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps2a976d01.jpg |
VC I've been a professional painter since 89 painting show quality cars, trucks, motorcycles, and boats. Early on I had a fear of cutting through so I use to start with 1200 and finish with 2500. As I got older and smarter I started my cut with 800 and finish with 1500. With the compounds available today there's no need to take it beyond 1500 but I do like to buff and let the sun bleed it out a few days and then rebuff.
Never the less your boat is looking beautiful and congrats on making it to the stage you have. It's gonna be something to talk about when your out in it.. |
Thanks joe. I appreciate the feedback and advice.
|
Dam she looks GOOD!!!
|

Picked up the rubrail from the polisher last week. He had the damn thing since last January! Anyhow, it came out fantastic. Started to assemble it the last few days.
Pics don't do it justice: http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps753d6355.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps22cba6ed.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps9231ca0d.jpg |

Hey Anu. I set mine at 17.5.
Maybe it's the angle of the pic. |
Hmmm. I set mine at 17". Did you measure from the pad or the bottom of the V? I measured from the bottom of the V.

That makes sense. That sets yours about 1 3/8" higher than mine.

Been working on the dash console in the basement as it's too cold to do anything outside.
Started wiring and fitting gauges, helm and remote control. I have the harness to the bilge and the harness to the Bow ready to go. I had to send the autometer trim gauge back to the factory to repair a manufacturing defect so that's why there's a missing gauge.
