looking for a 24 pantera

So I am interested in buying a 24 pantera. I have read great things about there rough water capabilities and handling. My biggest concern is how big is the cockpit when standing up while moving, does it feel you are getting ready to tumble out like a 22 donzi classic does? Or does it feel more like a regular offshore boat. So what does one of these cost new? I don't mind buying an older one that has been restored as long as it has been updated, so if anyone knows of any for sale let me know.

24's are not to deep not to shallow ! four adults can ride and move around in one just fine . As far as the cost of a new one that is a loaded question , With power options and prices you could spend 100K and a year of your life on one ... BUT FOR GOD SAKE ! Can we please ban the questions ( Any 24 Pantera's for sale ? ) and (Any 28 Pantera's for sale ? ) This question should result in a one year ban from OSO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Matt this is not directed to you ! This is for all the people that ask over and over with no intention of buying .. I guess their waiting for someone to say ( Oh, I've got one in my barn I'm not doing with ! You can have it for $500 bucks )
If anyone spends a few hours looking they can find every Pantera for sale in the country ...... Just search the Pantera forum and you'll find what you need .

The cockpit is small for a 24' boat and IMO it should be a sit-down boat. Remember this boat is about the same size as a 22 Classic. I made mine into a sit-down boat and it was the best thing I did.

I thought it was just fine standing, as long as you can hunker down w/ some foot rests.
goto the pantera site... i had a 1995 24SE, you can see me standing in... i'm 5'10".

How much you looking to spend?
I just posted 2 for sale from CL ads.
I think the black one listed is nice too... who's the board member that owns it?

Stormrider 05-02-2012 04:07 PM

OCC, give the guy a break... 6 posts.
He doesn't know how to use the 'search' feature.

Matt89 05-02-2012 04:12 PM

I am sure you do get tired of hearing the question of 24 and 28 panteras for sale, but I am not looking for one for $500. 30k would be best if I was to pay cash, and I was hoping a new one would be around 60 to 70k but that sounds low.

I agree you can stand in a 24 and I did it at first when I got the boat. But I preferred sitting since the boat is so shallow . After a few weeks I modified the seat bottoms so they were 3" lower and sat all the time, which was much more comfortable. Last year I had new bases made that lowered the whole bolster 3" and the bottoms another 4". Wish I would have done it years ago as I now feel "in" the boat.

Matt89 05-02-2012 05:49 PM

My biggest fear is I will not feel in the boat and it will be a run about kind of feeling, what I really want is something more on the 28 to 35 ft range but the problem isn't the price of the boat but the price of insurance because I am only 23. Even though I have been on boats since I can remember, I've worked at marinas, and even repoing boats because I have only owned a 17 boston whaler they say I don't have enough experience to be insured on a large powerful boat but the 24 pantera they will, but I guess they are just going by statistics! So I guess I should try and find one close and see if the owner will let me sit in it.

Not sure what you mean by a "run about" kind of feeling? Are you sying it will feel like being in a small "runabout" type family boat? If so I can tell you that is NOT the feeling you get. Even though the boat is only a 24' it is a thrill to drive and/or ride in.

Where are you located?

Matt89 05-02-2012 07:26 PM

I'm located just south of Annapolis Maryland. "run about" may not be the right term but I have riden in the classic 18 and 22 donzis and the 22 seemed better than the 18 but I like to feel like I am actually in the boat and I also like to stand up while driving. From what I can see the 24 pantera doesn't look to bad for a boat its size. I have looked at a lot of photos and videos and it looks like the sides are a bit lower than a larger offshore style boat but much better than the donzi's And I like its rough water reputation.
The chesapeake can be rough at times and change quickly and I want a boat that I can be far from home and if it does get rough it can take it easily. Although rarely have I seen the bay with larger than 5 footers, except a few times. I think no matter what, I want to buy one but if it will just depend on how much I like the way the boat handles and feels if its a boat I would want to keep for 5 to 10 years I am considering buying a new one.

Stormrider 05-02-2012 07:47 PM

The freeboard of a 22 donzi and a 24 pantera are not in the same ballpark.
The 24 is much deeper.
Matt, there are not many on the market.
This would be my choice if looking for a newer one:

I said I wasn't picking on Matt ! It was a general *****ing !
The 24 Pantera is the biggest little boat you'll ever own ..
The very first day I took mine out thirteen years ago , I was like how in the world am I going to handle this boat ! as a mater of fact the next day I wanted to take my 19 foot back out because of the comfort level . Now my Superboat feels small and the 24 is like my jet ski . But I still love it and have no plans to get rid of the old pain in the a$s ..

88bullet 05-02-2012 09:19 PM

your worried about paying too much for insurance for a 28 but your considering buying a new 24???? call wake zone insurance and talk to stacey hanlon. its not as bad as you think!!! nothing against a 24 but im a fan of the 28. the 24 guys on here praise the hell out of those boats. and they are 100 % correct. they are bad ass. i just boat on lake ontario and a 24 is a little small for where i boat. good luck with your search you will be very happy with a pantera!!

fountain333 05-02-2012 10:03 PM

I'm with stormrider on this one! The boat to look at is. http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/9790

Classic 18s have pedastal seats and are a shallow boat, bad combo as you feel "on" the boat. The 22s are much better as you know and the Pantera 24 is deeper than a C22. But the cockpits are close to the same size. The 24 will seem a little bigger than a C22 because it's a little deeper.

I can tell you that my C22 had awesome gel coat work and fit/finish but it really wasn't built that strong. My 24 is built like a tank!

88bullet 05-03-2012 06:58 AM

i like the black pearl 24!!!!

scarab63 05-03-2012 07:19 AM

Matt89

Theres a sweeeeeeet s.o.b. K&K ghost 24` stand up boat on l.i. Craigs.

If your not hellbent on a pantera id snatch that thing up in a second.

$9000 no trailer, so lets say all said & done $12

That leaves plenty of cash in the kitty for mods, gas, ins, whatever...

These k&k s are known to be rough water beasts just like panteras

88bullet 05-03-2012 08:07 AM

its got an egg beater on it!!! :lolhit: get your self a big block bravo boat

http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/9121

mgh 05-03-2012 08:16 AM

there is a 24 python i believe in georgia listed in the classifieds here, just passing the info along. i believe around 17.5k

scarab63 05-03-2012 08:16 AM

I like ob + if hes got the coin. could easily get that k&k, sell the yami & pick up a low hr merc 300. That'd put that boat well into the 80s & be reliable.

Tap out the exhaust and as mr mgh would say....he'd be the HNIC:lolhit::lolhit:

I am near annapolis and am in the bay everyweekend in the summer and fall as long as its not raining. It gets pretty rough if you are running across the bay. I run from the south river to kent narrows. I have never been in a 24 Pantera but I ran a 26foot twin nova spyder which was not a fun ride most of the time and that was a heavy boat. I have since upgraded to a 28 pantera.

If you are willing to spend 60-70k on a new boat, you may want to look at other builders.
Superboat may be able to hit that $.

88bullet 05-03-2012 09:50 AM

you lucky SOB !!! i will be working on a fountain all weekend lol we have a poker run the 2nd weekend of june and i have a 36 spectre, 33 fountain, 35 fountain, 27 fountain and 37 outerlimits to get rigged before then.. maybe find time to put my exhaust and platform on.. sh!t i forgot i need to get the 6 pack boat together for the run too... i envy you!!!

Matt89 05-03-2012 06:30 PM

I did find that 2005 24 pantera in florida, it looks like a nice boat, I have also emailed JO at Pantera in the last few days and a boat opted the way I want is in the mid 70's price wise. I didn't think that was hateful considering the price of other boats. And yes on a larger boat I am either unisurable or its over 5k a year, the pantera is only a hundred or so dollars more expensive a year to insure over my current boston whaler.

Stormrider 05-04-2012 08:20 AM

So how did you option your boat w/ Jo?
If the $ is in line w/ what you were hoping... jump on it.

Matt89 05-04-2012 10:06 AM

I got a ball park price from Jo. Considering how much boats cost I thought they were very reasonable. I had the boat optioned with the merc 502/430 hp bravo 1 x drive package, full hydraulic race steering, nice cabin, nice cockpit and was a ball park figure of mid 70's, but I am also considering this used one
http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/9790
But I would prefer to have fuel injection, and I like the larger pantera eyes on the side but I don't think I would get them on a boat if i had it built. But that one is almost half the price and looks to be clean.

rchevelle71 05-04-2012 10:53 AM

Trust me, BUY A USED ONE, or one that is already built. If you order new, do your homework first, and have a good legal contract, making sure to have a timeframe for completion, with scheduled payments along the way at certain points of completion.

JAIME 05-04-2012 11:05 AM

go used and have money to make any changes you want. The boat on powerboat listings is prac new and I think the eyes were custom sprayed. You could be hittin the water next week and gettin all kinds of compliments on your new boat. JAIME

88bullet 05-04-2012 11:29 AM
