Your not really using tembers for the stringers are you ? Never use 2x8 or 2x10's ! Has to be plywood or high density foam board . Pine will snap the first wave you hit

When I Replaced my stringers I used two layers of plywood as that is the standard today.

That said, pantera used 2 by 8's when the boat was built.

I doubt, very much, that his stringers are going to snap over the first big wave. Maybe not the optimal way to build them these days but, I'd think they will hold up just as well as the early panteras that came that way when new.

NewBanana i see you are running a V /duo prop on this P24, I had one on my last boat with a 383 blower motor that boat could pull out the hole like you woulnt believe Get the stainless props if you can .

When I get to a computer and off my crackberry I will find a thread here on OSO that has about ten stories of people spliting tembers and breaking boats from using tember instead of plywood construction stringers .
The past is the past and people have learned from mistakes . You couldn't find a boat builder that You could pay to build using 2x8's . Pepe didn't have The old interweb to look up how too's in the 70's . And maybe the plank wood was built different then and more dense but he sure didn't go down to the Lowes and by an $8 board and call it a stringer .
My point is this : he's rite there , even if he glassed it in already a simple zip from a sawsall and a $35 sheat af MDX and it can be Done the rite way .
The motor shearing off the 2x8's and ripping through the cockpit killing all its passangers when some poor guy hit a sand bar at 70 would be one hell of a story on OSO thread though !

Dimensional lumber has not changed in the last 40 years. Pepe built my boat out of stringers full of knots and they appear to be white pine.

As I already said, we all know that the industry standard is now a lamination consisting of plywood and mat. That said, z's boat will be just fine with the dimensional lumber as a core for the stringers. He's not building a competition offshore race boat but, a small block pleasure boat.

Also, my stringers and bulkheads were nailed together with framing nails before they laid the glass. No bedding, no fillets and no adhesive!

As far as pepe buying his lumber at lowes......I'm certain he bought it from a local lumber yard as it was nothing more than white pine 2 by 8 dimensional lumber. I could be wrong, maybe he had a source for some "super" trees and used those instead of the readily available dimensional lumber that has been available for over a century.

I don't care what anyone says I think that foam board would elongate the motor mount holes in about a minute

Somebody sent me a PM and said that all the early Pantera's stringers were made Coca trees . Not familial with that particular tree myself but they must last a long time .

I used the 2x8 cause thats what was originally on the boat, if it lasted this long it's going to be ok..lol I'm not racing it or anything like that just a weekend spin or two.. It's regular pine, I've heard horror story's of the pressure treated stuff delaminating because of the chemicals.. The duo drive ran great never had one before really impressed.. I do wanna upgrade the props I'm looking at the F6 as a base to start.

That is funny! I would submit that pepe had boats with processed coca leaves on board but, I doubt very much he used the tree trunks for stringers.

As I already said, my stringers were pine! No doubt about it.
