SO what happened at the ROPA run party. I here from some of the locals that they had some gays dancing and making out on the dance floor. IS that the kind of people the Grays bring to there runs. I hear the copps had to show up . I would think the owner would get tired of people taking advantage of his place. Burning pic tables last year and gays on the dance floor this year. SO WHAT IS THE TRUTH> Come on ROPA fill us in.

Not that I really want to talk about this "online" but....

The two men in question were locals that live up the road. The cops were called because they (the two guys) somehow thought it was a good idea to drive home (even though they couldn't walk) and smashed into a parked truck of one of our members....

Nope, we didn't bring 'em.

Thanks BonnieOutlaw for the update -- Glad your run went well - you had a perfect day for it !!

Gotta tell you though (and you know about the issues from being on the Oswego thread) -- I, along with several of our local SPBA members, were in attendance Friday nite . I made it a point to meet with a couple of your ROPA officers (Pres and VP) to try and make some friendly conversation and maybe better things between our groups...................... well I thought the conversation was pretty good, laughing a little, telling a couple war stories, and even saying that we ought to join forces because we pull boats in from different areas ....... but apparently it didn't go as well as I thought.

I guess I turned my head once and a statement of "yeah right" was passed between the officers. Then right afterward, a member (standing right near them) heard the comment that we are a bunch of "Maniacs"....... and I am not even going to say what was said next, relating to the incident at SOTW.

Well - we tried - we were even there supporting ROPA's event - and then they comment about us like that - and they weren't even perceptive enough to do it out of hearing range of several SPBA members standing there.

Maybe that is why ROPA has the reputation it has with the locals ... (boaters and non-boaters). The people saying how stuffy and rude they are aren't always the performance boaters. It's everyone.

I'm sorry this happened and that I vented like this, but I took this incident as a slam to me personally while trying to help the situation.

I'm not sure where you got the reactions from (between the pres and vp), first hand or otherwise, but that is definately NOT the impression I got later in my conversation with him.

All I know is, there seems be a very limited amount of animosity...dare I say, person-specific animosity....and in my conversation with our pres on Saturday, he was all for getting the two clubs together, and we were trying to figure out if we could do something together this year.

We usually have an "end of summer" get together. We were talking about perhaps this year, having our end of summer get together with you guys.

Which is quite the contrary to what you're posting.

I know I enjoyed meeting you guys. I look forward to when we (me n JB) make one of your poker runs and/or get togethers.

I don't know what's going on...but I know Dan's a good guy, and you guys seem to be good guys...and both are very dedicated. I think maybe we all need to take a step back, enjoy the moment, and move forward....

And maybe get together late August or early September?

BTW...I don't think you're maniacs....

Fun, but not maniacs.

I don't know if that was really said or not, but I know we're a buncha goofballs. We constantly rib each other. I'm the trouble-maker. And ya know what? To a point, it's true....I'm out there to have fun, and if that means (insert antic here - including but not limited to picking on a guy from SPBA because he likes air conditioning)...well then I do it. But, I was the first one in line offering to sell raffle tickets too.

The point of the rambling....don't take it out of context...if you're sure it was said. We all (in the club) often partake in "good natured" ribbing.

Maniac...maybe it was the pirate hat? Maniacs!

All in fun...the pirate hat was cool! Totally part of the poker run, and it is very apparent that you guys get in character and have a great time. And that is what it's all about.

The SPBA does have one MANIAC and that would be me. I have worked very hard to keep this position within the SPBA. However Iam a contolled MANIAC with plenty of throttle and driving experience and several years of punishing many different boats. I must say I learned the most from running the old bayliner at WOT. Given what it takes to be the maniac of the club I still would never take a risk that could cause harm to anyone to maintaine this position. I took a cruise by the showboat friday night to inspect the ROPA equipment on display, very nice boats!!!!

OMG, no wonder you're offended....

That's TOTALLY not where I was going with the maniac comment....

I'm sure what you say is true....safe driver...

And that's how I find most clubs to be...all business when driving, but knowing how to enjoy life when it's done.
