TickFaw Run Need Some Info

I'm Planning on attending the Tickfaw for the first time this year. I have a few questions that i cant find answers to online.

1. Do you complete the run in one day of two?

2. If it takes two where to you stay along the route?

3. Are there slips available or do you have to pull the boat in and out?

4. Does everyone launch in the same place or are there multiple ramps?

Any help would be appreciated

The run is just one day, Sat. We always camp by Tin Lizzy's just outside of springfield right on the Tic Faw River. There are many other ramps around the lakes it just depends on where you want to stay and start the run from. I'm not sure on slips most people I know pull each night. Check out Crazy Charlie's web site for more info on the 200.

It's a one day event. You can park your boat at Crazy Charlie's at night. It is secure. There is a ramp not too far from Charlie's that most launch at. It is a good ramp. There are a couple of places to store your trailer, with security. Check out his website or call him. We had a great time last year, but it does get kind of crowded at the card stops.

The public ramp under the bridge on Hwy 22 is the best ramp but the layout of the parking and driveway can be a little challenging to navigate. As far as trailer parking, the Riverstop Chevron a couple miles from Charlie's usually let's people park their trailers there for free. Also, a friend of mine owns a mini-storage close to Charlie's which is secure. He may be willing to handle some weekend trailer parking. I will check and let you know. As far as crowded card stops, you may want to get with some locals. We tend to run the route a little differently sometimes to avoid the crowds.:D

Once he tries to get into sunbuns he will learn how the locals run it. :D
I always skip blind river and make sunbuns my last stop.

Since the hurricane it doesn't actually cover 200 miles anymore and you don't have to hit every stop if you don't want to.

Noticed you're in Pflugerville, small world. My fiancee's sister just moved over there and turned into a biker chick. :D Trying to get them to come over here for the 200.

Strip Poker 388 03-13-2008 11:54 PM

Weve been going for about 8-9 years now,its change a lot the caliber of boat compared to in the begining, the run can be done is 3-4 hours if ya dont hang out at the stops,we prob hit Sunbuns last also about 3.30,Its a good easy run,Friday nite party is good also.

Croozin2 heard a rumor the PropStop was charging to park there that sat?

i miss the wormbuckets:ernaehrung004:

Its hard being a biker once the summer hits around here. Beside the traffic makes riding more of a gauntlet run than a ride.

How deep is the river on most of the run? Where are the places to avoid?

Strip, not sure about parking for the 200 weekend. Charlie and Milton (owner of the Prop Stop) don't really see eye-to-eye. I heard that they will definitely be offering the reserved parking for the Royal Purple run in June, though.

We hit Sun Buns yesterday. Great weather and a great ride.

The rivers are all plenty deep, docks are a different story. Theres a good chance you will stir up mud in a few places, not the best place for delicate labbed props.

Most of the run will be in Lakes Maurepas and Ponchartrain. Shallow flat bottom lakes overall but more than deep enough (9-11 feet mostly). The rivers that you will enter are plenty deep. Just follow the channel markers when entering and exiting from rivers to lakes and you'll be fine. Pay particular attention to the entrance to the Tchefuncte River. If you have a GPS, turn it on and locate the markers ahead of time. Remember, "Red, Right, Return."

Places to avoid? Crab traps!!!:D Seriously, you will see small styrofoam floats in the lakes. These are markers for crab traps. Stay away from them. Might feel like you are on a slalom course sometimes but just keep your eyes peeled.

We have been going to Tickfaw around 9 years now, never even nicked a prop.I call them landmines,I'm sure we've ran over a few of the Styrofoam floaties at speed, There hard to see sometimes,I guess were lucky.

Also coming into the mouth of the Tickfaw river from Sunbuns angle,I see allot of cane poles/sticks sticking up out of the water, never heard what they were, most of the time were running pretty hard coming back thru there:D

If it rains within a couple days the Blind river,Blind river bar stop,The river will be full of trash, limbs,we saw a deepfreezer last year:eek::D

Hate to be a pain, but what does "Red Right Return"
Mean?

jmeng 03-18-2008 06:10 AM

Basic navigation. The Red buoy needs to be on your Right side when you're Returning from the Ocean. Red on Right on Return.

Ok got it thanks for the info. I have only been on lakes with my boat. Can you get to the Mississippi river from lake Ponchartrain? I think it would be cool to ride by New Orleans.

jmeng 03-19-2008 06:35 AM

You can but I've never done it. Very few pleasure boats on the Mississippi down here.

Any Idea if there is an open container law for boats?

Croozin2 03-20-2008 07:07 AM

Just FYI for the out of town guys. There is free trailer parking at the Riverstop Chevron in Springfield. But, if they fill up or if anyone wants secure trailer parking behind a fence, a friend of mine that owns a mini-storage said he will accept boat trailers for that weekend. $30 Friday - Sunday or $40 Thursday - Sunday. Pm me for further info. First come first served.

Open container law does not apply to boats. Hope to see you out there. Got a pic of your boat?

Strip Poker 388 03-20-2008 12:47 PM

I usually try to get my crew not to have anything open while running,Usually:D

Just remember they usually hang out in/by the no wake zones,I anticipate it

I don't know that I would wear anything after Croozin2's been sportin' it around.. Does the word "Commando" mean anything?

Croozin2 03-20-2008 05:17 PM

Damn!!! Let me get in here and defend myself!!!!

I have been known to lose some clothes when my drink is on!! And, although not invisible, I do get 10 feet tall and bulletproof!!!

However, that is definitely not my color. I'm thinking something more in a chartreuse!!:D:D
