It's the Evolution World Title for King of Shaves!
King of Shaves, the Ilmor-powered Fountain powerboat piloted by James Sheppard and Craig Wilson, this afternoon secured the Powerboat P1 World Title, winning the first leg of the Powerboat P1 Portuguese Grand Prix of the Sea in Portimao to take an unassailable lead into tomorrow's second leg.
It was another outstanding performance by accomplished racers Sheppard and Wilson, the pairing having set new standards this season with six race wins and a world crown in their debut season. This is a remarkable achievement when considering that the Fountain Worldwide team did not enter Powerboat P1 until the third round in Naples, Italy.
The Italian challenge of OSG, the 2006 Evolution World Champions, started strongly and looked, in the early stages as though an upset could be on the cards. Giancarlo Cangiano and his racing partner, Giovanni Carpitella have fought furiously to defend the team's world crown and entered today's race knowing that only a win could maintain their challenge. This is a proud and highly motivated team and its rally in the final stages was what true champions are made of. Alas, it was to no avail.
For OSG and the all-American Outerlimits Team this race represented the last gasp chance to make an impact on the leading boat but as King of Shaves forged ahead, the contenders were forced to defend their position against the wild cards entries The Switch from France and SIF of Italy. Both were pushing for podium positions and when the all-American Lucas Oil-Outerlimits boat suffered a broken motor, the wild cards could smell the glory, with SIF piloted by Vittorio Fogliamanzillo and Renato Guidi finishing in third.
The bright sunshine may have played its part in attracting thousands of spectators to the Marina di Portimao but it did not temper the sea conditions, which remained choppy thus providing the best possible display of spectacular airbourne action.
The racing action will continue in tomorrow's final round of the season when the remaining competitors will battle it out to consolidate their positions in the championship standings.

Well done King of Shaves/Fountain Worldwide! Unfortunately some controversy regarding Supersport class.
It seems the 2006 Champion OSG Racing team will be changing from Donzi to Outerlimits for the 2008 season.

Thanks guys!
It was a great race weekend! The venue was fantastic, the parties were amazing!
We ran hard the first lap and pulled an 11 second lead! Then we backed off to make sure we finished the race as it was real sloppy water! I think we still won by 1min 30 secs.
There is nothing like a Fountain with Arneson surface drives!
The ilmor engines are incredible.
Outerlimits blew an engine, but they were in third at the time.
OSG has purchased a new Outerlimits, so that will be a good battle for next year.
We will have 5 Fountains, 2 OL, 3 Skaters, 2 Donzis, 1 extreme, and a few italian boats for next season! What a series!
Fountain Worldwide motorsports will be making sure their boats will claim all spots on the podium!!!
Dont know if Fountain Worldwide/King of Shaves will now be in Key west as it looks like she is sold!
Its late here in Portugal, and have a flight home tomorrow!!
Bon Noite!!!

On behalf of myself and James Sheppard, I'd just like to take this opportiunity, via the pages of OSO, to thank not only Mark, Craig, Vicki, Kate and Louise Wilson for their support and commitment to our race programme this year in P1 but also to team members Steve Lawrence, Matt Tracy and Darren Marchant plus the boys at Ilmor Marine, Arneson (Twin Disc) and those at Hering for helping us win this year's Powerboat P1 World Championship series. Winning four out of the five Grands Prix we started (having missed the opening event) is one helluva achievement and to Brian Forehand and all the boys at the Fountain factory, who worked day and night to build our boat back in April, we are extremely grateful. Thanks. Hopefully you will all get to see how we beat everyone when the series is shown on Speedvision later this fall. The King of Shaves-Fountain Worldwide entry was an awesome package.
