History of the 25

What is the History behind the 25. How many were built? What mold did they come from. etc..... Can't seem to find much info on them.

northernoffshore 09-14-2007 10:38 AM

I was told by someone from powerplay that they were built off an apache 22" and modified. How many were built That is a good question, Very few in the classifieds and I have only seen about 6 or 7 of them. Where's ed? HeyCDF5 how about a photo of your?

CFD5 09-14-2007 04:06 PM

I can't post pics, have to upgrade. Mine is the baby blue/pink one that was in MD. It's now white and I had the platform powdercoated to match HP500 blue. My buddy bought the other all white one and is having his platform done in red. Should be pretty cool to have two 25's in Cincy. Both will have decent power. Which one is yours?

Never mind, I guess I just had too many pics posted. This is mine now. The graphics on the deck are coming off this winter and I'll probably put a small powerplay logo on the back hull sides. And it's getting a scoop on the hatch!

mine is the o/b model with promaxs 225's on it. nice boat. Geographixs make powerplay stickers.

CFD5 09-17-2007 09:42 AM

Nice boat Northern, I'm still trying to figure out which prop is best. So far it's been a Hydro Q-IV. Tried a mirage + but seemed to be slipping pretty bad a cruise. (that was on 7 cylinders also) Going to bump up the hp this winter. I have not seen too many 25's, can't be that many made.

I'd love to know more about the history myself :) I love these boats!
As soon as i finnish my stinger project...or if the right price comes along before then...i'm gonna have one built by my buddy down in Fl that has the molds :D

Hey CFD5..hows the boat in rough water? or should i ask whats the biggest water you've had yours in so far and how'd it handle?....and was this how it looked like before? :D

CFD5 09-17-2007 03:10 PM

The boat does very well for a 25 footer. Biggest has been 2-3' in Lake Erie. Hit a couple 4' holes and fly's very level. Very solid, feels just as solid as my 28 Apache was. I miss the extra 3 feet but for a single engine 25 it handles it fine.

Wally 09-17-2007 03:51 PM

well i have no idea on how many were made...but i have pics of about 12 different 25's plus one 25CC model :D

Wally 09-17-2007 03:51 PM

CFD5...how do you like sitting down and driving?

CFD5 09-17-2007 06:13 PM

I like it, I mostly sat down in every other boat I had with drop downs, just stood up to dock. The freeboard is so low on the PP that there is no need to stand while docking. My only complaint's are there are no foot rests so nothing to brace against and you sit a little high in mine. I'm making some foot rests and might add a small lexan windshield.

Wally 09-18-2007 09:04 AM

Cool...well when you get your mods done please post pics for us all :D

hey cdf mine has aluminum tubes for foot rests check out the pics

Wally 09-18-2007 02:45 PM

Well.....heres a little history lesson for ya guys.....i just got the word from the guy that made the plug for the 25 :D
Its an all original boat....the guys name is Rusty Wallarath(SP?) and he worked at powerplay...he built the 25 according to him its all his work and he says he can prove it! ....he also was helping on the Thad/Apache boat when it was being built....he worked for my buddy that has the 25 molds right now for a while till my buddy went to CNC cut plugs for the molds.... and there ya have it guys...no splashing on this one  I'm sure just as every boat built out there has some sort of inspiration to go off of...but this one is not splashed from another boat.

Wally 09-18-2007 02:50 PM

OK....a little more info just trickled in....when Rusty started at powerplay there apparently WAS a plug allready there of the 25 that some guy named Robert was working on...but it was (according to Rusty) so screwed up that Rusty basicly started from scratch to fix it all.....

So the story has changed a little bit...and there may be a splash involved now...dont know 100%....this guys an old timer so you gotta give him some slack if memory gives out a bit :D

looking around the net i found a bunch of pics of the 22 Apache....there could very well be some heritage between them......the scout is very shallow compared to the PP from the looks of it...but then again who knows!

Wally 09-18-2007 03:08 PM

the PP looks to have a more agressive nose angle then the apache.....and i dont see that "parting line" down the side of the apache like the PP has.....but it could be......

CMC 09-18-2007 07:02 PM

Whos got the molds and is he going to pop any hulls. Always liked the 25 PP. Maybe its because I have an Apache Scout!

CFD5 09-19-2007 07:38 AM

Thanks for the history Wally. Buddy of mine thinks it has some Velocity lines to it. I'll post pics as we work on it.

Northern, I as looking at you foot rests before. How is it getting into the cabin? It's a pain in the butt as it is and I don't want to make it any harder.

He currently has no plans to make any go-fasts from the molds...he bought them to make one hull as a plug to make a 28' CC fishing boat. His company makes Flats boats and his biggest currently is a 20' bay boat but he does have a 22 deep-v that looks like its based off an old formula. I could possibly pursuade him to make one if someone was interested...but it would only be a hull and you would probably need to register it as home made... :(
I've been kicking around the idea of starting my own boat Co. up and bringing back this 25.....he said he would make me the hull no problem...its would be the logistics of having them brought up here to IL to assemble them that keeps stopping me :)

As for the foot rests...there seems to be a couple different setups in these boats....heres a pic of the interior of one that has some foot rests.....

matt81 09-20-2007 01:07 AM

Indy 12-01-2007 03:32 PM

When I sell my 33, I'm going to look into one of these. I really like the one on the right in post #16.

The boat in post 16 has fishing motors on it. The 25 runs good with 2.5's and 28 choppers

Gladhe8er 12-01-2007 09:14 PM

I almost bought one of these 3 years ago. In fact, the one in the post above looks exactly like the one I looked at in NY. They are a sweet little boat!

Indy, if you want to see the new 23 Powerplay, there is one at "The Dock" in Stratford. My dad took the covers off a week ago and peeked inside...really nice he said.

25 Powerplay

I agree with Northern. I actually ran your boat up here in Jersey years ago. Mine is rigged with a pair of 225 Pro Maxes. The boat fly's great out in the ocean with them. Nice balance.

I've been thinking about repowering with a pair of 250 XS's. Anyone familiar with this configuration? I'm curious if the boat will handle that much differently with the extra weight out back.

What kind of speeds do you see with those motors?

northernoffshore 12-02-2007 01:15 PM

80's w/gps speedo. Mine is the N.Y, boat bought it from lightspeed(oso name) great guy who knows boats. Drove all the way to long Island to pick it up. It was a great deal and very practical and comfortable to drive. Had a 32' cobra a 28'cig etc. I tow w/ my toyota 94 4 runner and save my big truck. It will be a hard decision when I buy a bigger boat cause the 25 is such a nice boat. Hey powerplay 25 the julio ingels jr . boat in oso classifeds has the 250xs's on it, heard it runs the same speed as mine. The motors look far apart in the pics and heavy.

Powerplay25 12-04-2007 12:33 AM

I saw that boat in the classifieds. I called to speak to the owner to find out how he liked the 250's, but TNT is actually brokering the boat.

They definately have to set the motors wider then ours because of the width of the 250's.

Swim brackets

Back to the 25' Powerplay listed with the fishing motors. Anyone know where to get those anodized swim brackets mounted to the transom?
