She would come on plan very fast which was good, however the 4 blade gave little to much transom lift and getting the bow to stay down was a big problem. That was on a 92 Conquest so maybe the older hull design had a lot to do with it. I've been told the 27's had a hook in the bottom so maybe the 4 blade works for your application. My 26 came with a Mirage plus as well as the new 2006 model has the same. I can only assume PQ has tried the 4 and it didn't perform well. Than again it could have been the extra $$$ to. Still would be curious to see the difference's in performance and handling. When I was messing around with props 2 years ago I went through 5 till I hit the right one. It's amazing to see what minute changes is pitch, dia and blade thickness can yield.

HOTTZU98 & 270Laser,

I have a 95 270 Laser with a Single 454 Mag EFI 21p Mirage 3 blade with estimated 400 hrs. I installed an meter when I bought it and have put 220 hrs and estimate previous owner had 200 or less.

Here are the numbers I've seen on GPS. With 2 -5 People & full tank gas 100 gals. l I usually run pretty topped up on gas.
On glass water with full up trim Top Speed with wind at back with current 58.7 @ 4800rpm. Realistically, most of the time in 1-2 waves 53 -56 mph, 1/4 - 1/2 trim & tabs down slightly.

My friend has a 93 270 with the 502 Mag carb with at least 500 hrs and ssays he see's 60-62 mph.

I did experiment with a few different props a couple of years ago without any luck. With a Mirage Plus 21p could not hit top rpm and slow speed. Bravo1 4B 22p - A lot better throttle response and midrange up 3-5 mph , the bad part I think it had to much stern lift because when I would be at Top Speed and than pull throttle back to neutral fast, the rear of the boat would twitch which felt unsafe. I also tried a Rev4 21p with about the same results.

270Laser,

What manufacturer's prop and pitch are you using? Any lab work? Also, I believe I have read that boats run a couple of mph faster in salt water because of more buoyancy and less drag or something like that. Thanks for your help.

The prop doesn't look like any work was done to it. It a Revolution 4 21p. I can go over 60mph on calm water 1 ft or less trimmed light. High 50's in rougher water. 62 was the fastest 60 is not a problem by myself or one other person with less than half tank of gas. Tac runs over 5000 rpm close to 5100. I have gone up the river where it is mostly fresh water and run over 60mph. My fastest run was on the ocean. So I'm not sure on the salt water making a hole lot of difference or the fact that you don't run out of room. The boat drive real nice. My 5 year old can drive it cutting in and out of crab nets at 45mph. It rides smoother at 3/4 to full throttle than at slower speeds. The chimes slap at slow speeds if it's real rough. I haven't had any handling problems. It does handle better trimmed down. I drove a 280 Silencer 454 mag with a 3 blade we were going about 63-65 speedo and it was hard to keep the boat going straight? Very loose feeling in the steering wheel. We went under a bridge at full throttle and I felt uneasy. The 270 handles like a knife in the water. The 280 was a bear to get out of the hole. He said he had to use the tabs. I think he had a 22 or 23 so that was most likely the problem? I'm guessing the 280 is a much better boat with the upgraded steering. Other than that it road nice and stable at slower speeds. I'm sure the 280 will have a better top end with the stepped hull. Both boats were the same year and price. I just liked the look of the laser better and it was in much better shape. As far as the prop I'll try the 3 blade and see. The previous owner liked the 4 blade better.

Speed Demon sonds like he had the same results as I did with the Bravo 1 4 Blade. I believe that the Revolution has a smaller diameter so maybey thats cutting down on the lift?

If they are the same pitch which prop would be faster the 4 or 3 blade?

I believe the 3 blade will run a little faster 2-3mph. Not much but you'll spin more R's out of the 3 blade. Most people switch for the ride/low and mid range. Of course each hull is different , thus is why you still see a lot of new boats with the 3 blades. I think the bulk of the 4 blades are on the larger heavier boats. If all goes well in the next 3-4 years we'll move into a 30' plus.

If you've never tried and you have one, it would be worth a try.

new to the forum but I have a 96 270 laser with built 454 pushing 514hp max flywheel hp and 510tq max flywheel tq. I have the dyno plots and pics. Running Hydromotive 4blade prop Second year running the engine got to get GPS and check speed. Who wants to race lol.

I think i posted specs before on here when the engine was first built, JE 9.6:1 compression, blue printed and balanced, roller rocker setup with hydrolic cam, dart ported and polished heads, dart hi riser intake manifold, Custom headers from CMI. Its at the point were If it was any faster, the 270 wouldn't be able to keep it under control. Next year im thinking of modding the drive I was told moving it up a tad will gain hp and make it more stable. For right now I just adjust the tabs or else its major chine walk.
