thats a small notch transom = 1/2'' in height . let me back track to see if you posted yor prop shaft height to the keel it looks short in pic.put the drive level with the bottom and have some one hold a yard stick on the keel bring it out to meet the drive and check your height it looks shorter in pic than 5 1/2''which if it is A little deep for a stepped hull with notch a 1'' or 2'' shortie should help with a 4 blade or 5.

Air Time, your post #32.
My drive height is 5 1/2" and x dimention 17" or 17 1/2".
Hope this helps. If I need to measure anything else I will need a sketch...lol.
Thanks.

hey you should try a 2'' shortie and try a bravo1 28 and maxus 5 28 from bbladdes using his prop program. your boat is stepped right cause the 3 1/2'' might be spot on with a shortie give you 4mph with a labbed prop or more but you need to use a reg prop 1st from brett then which ever works best you lab. if height is too high just add a stanard box and you will be 1'' lower cause of set back. I am going to start at 3'' my self on the saber cause of the box. let us know if your going to try this art or call me at 617 833 3327. ps its going to be busy this spring we need to get the saber done and put a windshield on the 46 skater that knot right has the f16 cans don't help people in back seat.

Hey AIR TIME, thanks for the reply....I'm pricing out the 2" shorty now...not sure what they cost.
You really think the shorty will work....4 mph would be nice....
This would obviously affect hole shot and possibly handling???
I will try to call you for sure!!
Remember to keep some time for boating and not all wrenching!!

I guess this will all be a trial and error game. I am planning on trying a spacer to try to get the prop a little deeper in the water. I feel there is way to much slip. I am hoping the prop can grab less turbulent water. An extension box would probably due the trick also but I feel that is getting a little carried away at this point with the boating I do. I think a shorty would be going backwards with this hull design but I might be totally wrong.

I am looking for probably a 1 inch spacer complete kit if anyone has one they are looking to part with.

Specialk, what is your set up, I cant remember.

496ho with procharger bravo 1 28 4 blade. I probably have about same hp as you. Once the prop starts to blow out after it rolls over on plane it never feels like it grabs good again. I think it has way to much slip. I think that also affects cruising speed and probably a little bit of top end. I tried a bunch of diferent props but not a 5 blade. My opinion is that raising the drive height will cause even more slip. Again I can be totally wrong. I measured my drive a while back and think I came up with the same numbers as you. I would love to hit the 80 mph mark, but I think I would be much happier getting 5-10 mph at 3500 rpm.

Now its coming back to me.....old age!! have youhad your drive looked at??
I always back out of the throttle when it rolls over and starts to blow out...then get into the throttle again....it hooks the water and starts to pull hard.
I wonder why yours feels like it is slipping.
I'm in the process of ordering CMI Long Tube headers, hopefully I get them ordered this week.
A new prop will be the next thing like AIRTIME says....BBlades again.
I think/ hope I will see high 70's when the set up is done....and thats why I'm thinking of playing with the drive height to get a little more...

My drive is fine as far as i can tell. I am pretty educated on these to an extent but have been known to overlook things. I am used to the acceleration and cruise speed of my last boat with twins so I might be a little over expecting of my 280. BBlades sounds like the person with the most knowledge and I have talked to him a few times but that was when I first purchased this boat and only had it on the water a couple times trying to give him correct info. I should call him again before I do anything.

Its kind of humerous because I bought the 280 just so I can take family out boating a couple times a year. I was looking at other boats thinking I would be fine even doing 60 mph just to be on the water again. This one does 75 and I am still not content. I want to be on the water every weekend and I have the bigger boat itch that I want to scratch.
