powerboatlistings, got a couple hits from there, there's another guy that I talked to in kentucky that is looking for a 280, I'll post the price after it's gone but I can just say that some of the boats listed out there are dreaming if they think there getting asking their price, I think I gave mine away but that's what it takes now adays.

Well I never said I would pick up 3-5 but said I wonder if I would pick it up.......
If there is some speed to be gained from working on the drive height then I am interested in exploring those options....... Instead of a shorty which nobody with a 280 has tried out to verify if there is a speed increase maybe I need to explore the spacer instead....dunno. |
Finally put on a 1 inch spacer. World of difference (for the better) getting on plane. Stopped the blow out when it rolls over. Helped out on cruising speed (5 mph more at 3500 rpm). Top end seemed to stay the same.

Thats good to hear!
Was it much of an ordeal? |
Pretty easy install. Takes longer to modify drive shower than put in spacer. I cant believe PQ built the boat with the drive height like it was.

specialk,
Did you change your prop after installing the spacer? What prop are you running? I have been thinking about adding a spacer too. Thanks! |
Same prop. I was trying many different ones before the spacer but never felt right. I have 28p bravo 1. My rpm seems pretty much where it should be now but I would still like to try a labbed 28 and also a 5 blade to see what would happen. I have a 496ho with procharger. Probably just over 500hp.

Dumb question: If you have a "shortie" doesn't adding a spacer defeat the purpose?
|
X dim on a silencer is pretty high. The theory is raise drive height as much as possible. Works on some boats depending on set up. A shortie would raise the drive height without modifying the transom. The question at the beginning of this thread is, would it help. My boat had to lower deeper in the water. You can probably raise drive height or use a shorty if you have an extension box. I always had an issue when getting on plane and the boat starts to level, the prop would slip. Since i added the spacer it cured that problem. I am still tryin to decrease my prop slip at higher speeds though. I calculated over 15% slippage if i used the calculator correctly.
