Default Cap and rotar

On the 500 EFI's if I replace the cap and rotar, do I need to check the timing or is it just simply taking the old off and putting the new on?

No need to touch timing as long as you dont loosen distributer. Mark the plug wires before you take them off so you dont cross any.
