I might be looking at sound stuff in a few months, that's a great hook to have!

Trans and Throttle levers questions

Boatnt if you could way in on this would be great but anyone else is more than welcome to as well.

First time out with new boat and we loved it and all went well, but I do have two questions.

1. The left shifter seemed a bit reluctant at times to go into gear, is there an adjust for that? And then I would bet it would be back back at the motor right? Lastly did you ever encounter similar? Just curious.

2. The throttles seem like they could use a bit more resistance or tension on them as one or both seemed to move a little while under way. Like once we were going and were at desired pace I would let go and look back a bit later and they were no longer side by side.

Any thoughts? Thanks.:drink:

Your gonna get them kinds of issues with sunken/salvage boats... Lmfao

cpiefer06 05-06-2011 08:39 PM

I figured it was from that.

cpiefer06 05-06-2011 08:43 PM

What everyone has to know is that I am one picky SOB. SO when I ask it is not saying that someone else might not find the same thing odd but since I do will get it fixed, or in this case slightly adjusted. And most importantly I don't want anyone to think that the previous owner didn't take care of it because to be honest it is just like new. The guys at Hawkeye all had nothing but great things to say.

AJ POWERPLAY 05-06-2011 10:28 PM

288... keep picking on my PQ bro's and I'll forget to mention your name to 4'11" Sam tomorrow...

THE 288 KID 05-06-2011 10:35 PM

LOL I already lost the battle, I'm not pursuing a degree, and I'm not wanna be black swanny.... a guy like me could never land a bangin' ass midget....

Don't worry I haven't scratched you off the prospect list yet... in the mean time enjoy saginaw... tomorrow is the night out

Pull the throttles out, right underneath facing towards you there is a tension screw for the resistance, I just did mine last week, easy stuff.

On mine all I had to do was pull the rubber boots out that go around the handles out and could access them.

I never had any problems with either engine on the 300 going in gear,on one of my 290s I had one engine was at times a little hard/stiff to go in gear,I had to (simple repair)remove the top/side cap on the outdrive and clean and lude the detend spring/check ball assembly, that took care of it and I was told Merc recoments you do that every couple of years.

I never drive with my hands off the throttle so I would never known but it is a simple adjustment,,with the engines OFF!!!move the throttles forward spread the black rubber boots apart and you will see a allen head screw, you can turn it in 1/2 a turn at a time until you get the resistance you like, same could be done with the shifters as well,,

Hope this helps and hope you enjoy your new boat,
Tom

No!, no sunken boat here buddy!
Boat stands tall out of the water, dont have to worry about waves rolling into that boat,
Wish I could say the same about a certain 32 I tied up too a couple of years ago,,I almost needed to use a ladder to get from mine down into to his..but you allready know that because your 288 sits the same as that 32.... so please when it gets rough out there do yourself a favor and keep your boat safe on the trailer and go and have some real fun with ajfisher, trust me his boat could handle what yours cant!!!

Amy took some photos that day but I am not sure of what. I ma really hoping to get out tomorow and will run the new props plus I got my gps card the other day and really want to see what that adds. On a ten mile stretch down river I was moving around looking things over from the drivers seat and didnt have my hand on them thats how I noticed it and I was actually looking at the smartcraft gauges and noticed the rpms were different.

Lucky you! My dumb ass left the boat in the warehouse and it ended up being nothing but sun. How do you like your new ride?

AJ POWERPLAY 05-08-2011 05:59 PM

:eek:nice week end here also. The wife just finished a complete top to bottom cleaning of the interior, a few days. Now for the polish. I haven't tried it out yet but getting very itchy to do so:boat:

cpiefer06 05-08-2011 06:12 PM

Sacrificial anodes.

Just a thought for you Fox Chain of Lake boaters, you may want to give them a serious look. I was changing props today and found that the anode under the prop was way past its prime actually floating free in there. Now mind you I have already bought 2 new kits to change all of them out regardless but each body of water has different effects.

So just something to take a look at that most never think of.

The water has come up a foot since we were there on Wednesday!!!
We checked out Wahnaptiae before pulling the boat out of the hanger and at that time none of the dock tires were even close to touching the water.....looking good!!
I wonder if I'll be able to launch there though.....

I think it will be tricky, but you probably can. Just watch you bank up past the cement slab in the water. It is worth a try, but man that is a long boat:eek:

They go from poor mans all the way to the clinton river, someone is going to hit these for sure the markers are not that large. It is crazy they put them that far out. Seeing that Belle Maer's markers are a mile offshore and they are past that:eek:
