If so what was the result?

I would love to but I am not interested in running 91 or 93 octane fuel to keep the beasts alive.

With 750-800 hp a side on a heavy 38 footer, that would just cause me outdrive grief with my Bravo's as well.

I'm renting a seasonal slip next year as well and the marina doesn't have premium grade, so that would mean pulling the boat out to fuel.

But a mid 90's ride would be cool!!

From what I've read Mike the 38's don't see much gain with shorties... Are you running the 4's or did you throw on the 5's? Also consider elevation from sea level when you look at speed numbers, not sure how high in Canada you are but I know elevation kills hp

I've been running both the 4 and 5 blades, the 5 blades really help the boat accelerate hard, very impressive to say the least!!

We are near sea level and as high as 1000ft where we run, so good air.

My plan is to do the top ends this winter, I'm shooting to bump up the horsepower to 600, keeping it naturally aspirated.

I figured maybe some Imco shorties would help out with some speed but I need to do more research.

I was hoping to get into a 39+ ft Outerlimits with 700's and 6's next year but not sure I will be able to swing it, so the next best thing is to spend some time and money this winter getting the 38 some additional power!!

AJ POWERPLAY 09-10-2012 07:45 AM

Call CK Motorsports, he knows everything there is to know about drives and propping. He is also CatCanDo (the racer) so you know he knows his chit! It's a little bit of a haul for ya but he will let you.test out props and shorties on your boat to dial it in perfect. (616) 837-9096 at least give him a call, info is free lol. Last I was over there he was totally re-doing a 38 PQ

boatnt 09-10-2012 08:45 AM

AJ did you ever swap out the engines with the 300???

AJ POWERPLAY 09-10-2012 08:54 AM

No I didn't... Decided double the gas wasn't worth it right now

No, I will pull the boat out of the water every second or third week and bring it home for a bottom clean up and detail during the week.
That should keep me off the couch for a bit.

I called CK today and had a long conversation with Keith, a fellow Canadian ;p.
Seems to know the 38 PQ very well and nice guy to talk to!
I don't think it will happen this year but I definitely want him to spend some time in my boat!

AJ POWERPLAY 09-10-2012 08:34 PM

the nice thing will be that you will be able to see the results before you decide which way you want to go, AND get ya back in the mitten for some drinks! :ernaehrung004:

verbi69 09-11-2012 06:32 AM

I love the boat and it rocks, just want to run a little harder..lol
It's going to get some work on it no doubt, just don't know what yet.

PROWRENCH 09-11-2012 07:05 AM

Run harder, that's easy, just add $$$.
Seriously though, what kinds of things did he recommend for you? Whipples and arneson's?
Wouldn't it be nice if someone re-launched PQ with a Cosker-designed 38 or 42 hull with staggered triples?

AJ POWERPLAY 09-11-2012 07:44 AM

Triples Adam?? Then we would both have to sell our houses and pool money for the payment+gas!

Prop and drive set up, maybe shorties.
I am looking at porting the heads and intake with a computer reflash as well. The rest of the engine will go untouched.
Tripples I believe is overrated.

A new 38 PQ with 700 SCi & NXTs would of been cool.

BlueOval 09-11-2012 09:19 AM

The 38 is done!!! Picking up in am!!

AJ POWERPLAY 09-11-2012 09:27 AM

Nice! :D

AJ POWERPLAY 09-13-2012 10:30 AM

good to hear Bob! i bet the dingey has got more use this year than the whole rest of the time youve owned it while you were waiting on the 38! at least you got to scratch that offshore itch

AJ POWERPLAY 09-19-2012 05:40 AM

How's the boat running Bob? When are you storing it away?

BlueOval 09-19-2012 07:46 AM

Running great, most likely the end of October before she heads to the barn. Spent the weekend on it. Hope to this weekend if weather would get a little better.

PROWRENCH 09-24-2012 01:54 PM

37 degrees this morning, straight from summer to winter it seems. I bet Verbi already has an igloo built.

AJ POWERPLAY 09-24-2012 04:46 PM

Lmao that is for sure! I'm hoping to get out on Higgins Lk this weekend for the last time out on the boat for the year

BlueOval 09-24-2012 04:48 PM

2012 Apple Festival-An October Tradition in Charlevoix

October 12-14, 2012

What began more than 20 years ago as a way to celebrate fall has turned into an annual event of the apple in Charlevoix: Apple Festival. Held each year on the second weekend of October, Apple Festival turns downtown Charlevoix into a festive and fun place to be.

More than 30 orchards are represented at Apple Festival and they bring more than 30 varieties of traditional and heirloom apples along with cider, baked goods, apple butter, and other fall produce like pumpkins and squash. The accompanying holiday and art and craft show with 125 exhibitors brings craftspeople to Charlevoix to show their talent.

Family activities include face painting, pony rides, and a petting zoo. The 2nd annual
pumpkin carving contest offers prizes to carvers with the pumpkins displayed in Bridge Park during the weekend.

Spectacular fall color typically is on display during the weekend and the combination of fall foliage and Apple Festival brings visitors to Northern Michigan from across the Midwest. Held along the waterfront in downtown Charlevoix, Apple Festival is a great way to celebrate

BlueOval 09-25-2012 07:52 AM

If weather holds the local that have not put their boats away pile into the marina one more time to raise some hell for the weekend. They have cable at all the docks, so sat. is beer drinking and watching football on the back of the Cruisres and Yachts. If it is raining we put the table up in PQ and crank up the flat screen. We always have fun with it, I hope the weather lets us do it again!
