whats the ride diff between 280 silencer an baja 29 outlaw

]I'm looking to go up alittle I have a 99 280 silencer an I'm looking for a little bigger twin. I love the PQ I have but I want bigger how much of a better ride do u think a 29 ol would have an what bought fuel . Were do they cruise with standard power thanks

I no fuel will be way more at that

Josh LaFountain 06-04-2012 08:37 AM

I have a buddy with a 29 ol with 496 mag ho's it runs mid to upper 70s. Dosent ride any better than my 280. Over all i like my boat better. But im also a bias opinion being that im a baja hater.not big on the fact that thay are a production boat and people think thay are some high end boat like cig or something. ........

....PS...ive seen them stress crack..PQ dont

Josh LaFountain 06-04-2012 08:39 AM

if ya wanna step up stay with PQ and get a 300 revenge or a 340 viper.

Hard to quantify difference in ride. I've only been in a 280 a couple of times. I remember them riding decent but IMO there is a noticable difference in ride. I also prefer the handeling of the 29 OL.

Fuel won't be a huge difference. I have twin 496 mags in mine. I run with several friends that have boats with single 496 HO's. On long runs when we're all running the same speed I burn 30 - 50% more fuel than they do. It helps that I can cruise the same speeds at lower rpm.

Really???? Not all of us can afford to run around in a custom built Powerquest. :Whatever:

Josh LaFountain 06-04-2012 12:21 PM

Who said PQ were custom build dick? Were i boat at all the baja ownes THINK baja is the baddest best fastest boat on the market and i get sick of hearing it. The majority of them have never heard of anything other than a baja or fountain and thay call them all "cigar boats". Its not necessarily that baja is an inferior boat its the quality of the owners that i am around that i have a problem with.

Buddy's 270 PQ stress cracked like a biotch first year he had it at LOTO. It was a '98 and this was in 1999.

The 29 does handle better. Thats the only botch i have with my 280 is its handeling. The step hull makes is dangerous to turn at high speeds.

30-50% is not a lot to you? Sounds like a Hell of a lot to me!

Baja342- cmon now there is no reason to get butthurt over all this... Baja made a Sharp looking boat. PQ's were hand laid and have a reputation for being very soundly built hull's, with the 300 being designed by John Cosker I'd say that gives it a little bit of a more custom feeling than a Baja.

First ive heard. I bought mine from south carolina it had lil over 300 hrs on it and it was ran on the Atlantic for 6 years and it dosent have a single stress crack. my first boat was a VIP and it was stress cracked all to hell. I could tell it was a light boat that wasnt built as well thoe. If ya want a dealers opinion call admirals anchor in jeffersonville IN on the ohio river across from louisville. Thay were a PQ dealer and still a baja dealer. Ask for andy in service or the owner steve webb. Thay will tell you that PQ is a higher end boat. Thay were more $$$ new but thay had less cosmetic problems and less warrenty comebacks. Im not saying that baja isnt a nice boat. Thay are very much. But thay are not the best boat out there like some people believe. Thay however are great for the price.

Considering its twin engines vs single I think its pretty good. Mainly making the point that its not double the fuel burn like some people think.

AJ POWERPLAY 06-04-2012 05:08 PM

The only thing I was considering was the number 30-50%... Single, twins, trips, whatever it may be... that's the difference between paying $400 in fuel and $600 in fuel

Imagine the beer you could buy with that extra $200 :ernaehrung004:

dra200832 06-04-2012 05:52 PM

Lol I'm pritty sure the preferences in boats highly depends on the area an how they Were taken care of of. I love both my biddy had a 08 35 outlaw with 525sc that I would love to have but I don't Really have that kinda change laying around. But anyway thank you for you help

Jplanes 06-04-2012 06:36 PM

Ok Josh, I'll be drinking your beer since I have to spend $200 more just trying to keep up with you at the lake! Dam trouble maker! :drink:

Haha. Im sure well be spending more time floating around drinkin than running. That has been the story the past few weeks anyway. Even thoe gas is cheaper than beer our boats consume fuel much faster than we can beer so its more economical to float around and drink b:offtopic: but i dont care. Lol.

POWERPLAY J 06-04-2012 08:08 PM

Hey Josh. Not trying to derail the thread but all boats get stress cracks. I have friends with Pq, Sunsation, Baja, Pantera, Scarab, OL, Active Thunder, Fountain, Cig, Donzi, Blackthunder and they all have cracks as I do on my Powerplay. Not calling ya out bro just letting ya know they all have them LOL. And don't listen to AJ, he is one 28 Sunsation banging, walking, porposing loving mo fo... :thankyouthankyou:

Pete280 06-04-2012 08:43 PM

Josh, you dont have my old boat do you? Adrenaline? I boat in the Atlantic and sold i to guy in SC,

btw: my old 280 had quite a few stress cracks, my new Concept has a couple but nothing like the PQ, my old 95 257 PQ didnt have any that I can remember

A 290 OL is a lot bigger boat than a 280, the cabin is huge in the OL, the OL will also be more stable and predictable of a ride, I dont consider it to be an apples to apples comparison

I did air my 280 out on a cruzer wave yesterday so i might wanna check again. Haha.

No i met the guy that had my boat new. Hes on here somewhere. It was from missouri originally. Went to new york then Charleston sc. And then to me. The baja 272 is the apples to apples comparison for the 280. the 280 is actually 27'7" with equal power the 280 is generally 5 to 7 mph faster than the 272 due to the step hull. Cornering is sacrificed by the step hull thoe. Twin engine boats are always more stable.

Haha...pretty funny. Which boat is better is very subjective and debatable.

In that one Baja boat owners mind it is the badest boat he owns, let him have his moment. And when you say that a "majority" of them have never heard of another brand I think that is quite a stretch.

I wish I could give you some sort of comparrison but I simply don't know anyone that owns a 280 Powerquest.

You guys are killing me! Josh is correct! Louisville (Ohio river), and surrounding lakes do carry a large amount of Baja guys, and where there's a baja, there's an attitude right there with it! As fare as letting him have his day? Go jump off a bridge! I have zero tolerance for pure attitudes! There's a difference in sarcastic bantering, yet don't take yourself so seriously because when you walk away from your baja, your still that annoying guy that no one really likes to be around! I have a buddy who is a great guy, yet get him around his 33 outlaw with 3 row seating and he feels like he's the biggest fish in the pond (no relation to Fish:helmet:). Yet I guess if your 7'2 you are one of the biggest fish.

Bottom line, I really don't care what you have, the sweetest boat, car, motorcycle, what ever....but if your an ass hat, it negates what you have.

Our local dealer sold PQ for years so I am quite familiar with them. I almost bought the 270 I referenced but when my buddy traded it for a 2000 32 Dominator he left it with the dealer at LOTO and they weren't kind to the boat in the 6 months they had it. By the time it came back to the sister dealership in IL it was trashed. The 270 was just too small a boat for the weekend LOTO slop but would have been perfect on our local lake.

P.S. That same local dealer that sold PQ also sold Baja...and was at the time the largest or second largest Rinker dealer in the nation!
