Hello guys, I have a problem that I would love to fix and i'm looking for some advice. I have a 2001 26 SLS (open bow) with a 454 MAG (310 hp) with a brovo 1 runing a 21 pitch (3 blade) prop. I run max on the GPS at about 56 mph. I would love to hit at least 65....What should I do to allow me to get to that speed. I have already tried to move up the the 23 pitch (3 blade) and the motor did not have enough power to spin it. In fact I got better results with the 21 pitch then the 23 pitch. (not good) If you guys could please give me some Ideas that could help me reach my speed that would be great. Thanks!

You do not have the mag motor. The 310 hp 454 is rated at 41-4600 rpm. What rpm's are you at now? I'm guessing your at 4600 with the 21. The bad news is, to go 10 mph faster is gonna take some money. And most people will tell you that the 7.4 that you have is not the best motor to hop up. But, if you want to spend the money to go faster, a low boost supercharger would do it. That is right around 5 grand if you do the work yourself.

I had a PQ 260SX (2001) with a 496 HO MAG and it would do 65 on the gps with me and a light load of fuel...63 under just about all conditions. It was a great running engine without any problems in the 250 hrs I put on it. My suggestion is to look around on the net for a "takeout" 496 HO. The price will be right and most engines have less than 10 hours on them with a full warranty. That should give you your 65 and a great base engine for future upgrades, blower, etc. You can probably flip your engine for additional cash or keep it as a spare. If you do your own work this is a one day job, if not, it is a pretty cheap boatyard deal...relatively speaking. Good luck, my PQ was one of the best boats I ever owned!
