Question Resonant Noise

My Revenge has an annoying resonant sucking(?) sound at 2-3500 rpm. I am guessing it is from the intake of the HO's. Has anyone else experienced this? Would installing aftermarket flame arrestor's help? It is not unbearable, just annoying. It goes away after the rpm's come up.

I guess one fix could be driving fast everywhere!

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

I have a 2002 38 with 496 mag ho's and my starboard motor has the same thing that you describe. It had it when I first looked at the boat and the marina service dept. said there was a small "valve" that was made out of foam that detriats over time and probably needed replacement. They did that and it helped alot. The motors still sound like they are sucking air at idle off and on but the motors run really nice so I've quit worrying about it.

My HO's do the same. As did Vyper340's and BillR's. They put K&N flame arrestors on their motors. They will diminish the 'sucking' noise, but no real performance enhancement. I must have gotten used to the sound 'cause I don't notice it anymore. Or maybe it went away......let me go check....it's supposed to be 65 degrees here this weekend.
