Re: anybody out there??

probaly not this is one for a friends outerlimits .1300hp I would like mid 80s .would like to know if it has been done in a 29 profile?

cosmic12 10-17-2006 04:13 PM

Re: anybody out there??

yes it is possible. I had a 95 27 with 454mag efi ran about 70. my buddie had a 96 29 with 500hp ran mid 70s. he sold it to a guy that put a blower on it and it ran low80s. Just be very carefull with the jumping and such as they aren't as strong as you think. ck your motor mounts and transom.

Re: anybody out there??

I've got a 308 with a bad (partially removed) transom... this was NOT profile's fault. Someone had put a speedo pitot on it and didn't seal the hole that they drilled for it. Next thing you know the transom is full of water. Oh well.

Maybe I'll get it fixed (or sell it) this winter, who knows.

Just came back from Las Vegas and realized someone started a Profile forum. Here's some pics of my 96 27' powered by a 454 Mag.I run the boat in Mt Hope bay(Southeastern MA and RI) and hopefully some other places next summer now that I have a new tow rig.Let's see some of the other Profiles out there.

Here's the new tow rig also.2005 Lariat shortbox dually with a 6.0 liter powerstroke diesel and only 5500 miles.I absolutely love the truck. It only had 3800 miles when I bought it a month ago.I can't stop driving it.

jwp51 10-26-2006 07:50 PM

Catmando,I was actually looking for a SRW truck also until I ran across this one and fell in love.I was concerned the ride quality with the short bed and dual wheels would be harsh but it is surprisingly good over normal bumps.I plan on moving up to a 32' or 37' boat so I figured I would be safe.I have a company demo so I don't have to drive it every day.I can keep the mileage down for some killer road trips next summer. Is it here yet!!!

Re: anybody out there??

I guess that would depend on wether a person could do the work himselft...

The transom would probably cost 2500 to have done, but could be done yourself cheaper.
Two sheets of marine grade plywood = $200
5-7 gallons of vinylester = $200-$250
cloth and mat = $200
($650-$750 for the transom)

There is still one wiring harness in the boat and the wires for the trim and tabs are still there. They would just need to be re-terminated.

I still have the steering cable for it as well. You could get another tilt helm (<$120) and steering wheel.

You can get a set of guages from SSCompetition for $114.

I just sold a 454mag for $2700, you can get a transom assembly for $1300 and a used bravo for $1500. Exhaust $1000. (I've seen complete used propulsion packages for $6000)

That puts it at about $7500 in parts so far. I'm sure that you would need another $1000 for other misc stuff that I can't think of.

This would be a good project for someone with the parts laying around that didn't mind doing some glass work.

the rest of the hull is balsa cored, but the transom was plywood

Re: anybody out there??

the reason I ask is the last time I was there in 97 Randy told me he was going to start useing balsa in the transoms and that he had 2 boats done with it already

Re: anybody out there??

I feel that the balsa is the better choice, I've done both. With marine plywood if you get a leak around any hole in the transom it will rot out the whole transom. With balsa, if it is installed correctly it will not. And in tests the balsa has better shear strength. It is much harder it install.

Re: anybody out there??

Wow, Kind of wished I know this before I bought my 96 27' Thats ok It seems my transom has not leaked yet. But I have cracks in the floor of the cockpit area and on each coner by the wind deflector.. I think this is an easy fix though. I just got the engine put togather and she runs and I am kind of wondering if the little amount of chine walk at 75 mph will flatten out. I have not gotten her over 76 mph on gps yet cause I am leary of this hull. I still have more stick left to give her. She has got about 650 to 700 hp in her now.

cosmic12 11-01-2006 06:20 PM

Re: anybody out there??

I had the same cracks in my 95 27 And have sean them in every one I've looked at. They do tend to get a little light at speed, be careful. how is your floor?( cockpit) Mine was like a spring board after a year.

Only two where ever built

Re: anybody out there??

If I'm not mistaken they all came from pretty much the same mold. It's kind of hard to tell from your avatar, but the lines of the boat look alot like my 308.
