Mercury Revolution4 props
Tried them yesterday on the Glasstream and can't say enough good things about them. Really impressed!
Anyone else ever used them? |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
I'm glad they worked well!
We are trying to turn more people on to them. We have sold many sets this summer. Not every application calls for these, but some boats just love them. They offer 4 blade performance without sacrificing too much top end! |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
I tried one on my Pantera 24 last year. I didn't have a GPS with me, but it felt like it lifted the ENTIRE boat further out of the water.
|
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
4mph over a bravo one tells me something!!! The boat actually had better bite and throttle response. It even came out of the hole better too...
|
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
crb76 what boat are you running it on? More details?

I just put them on our 328 SCX Glasstream CC. The boat has twin Mercury 275 Verado outboards and a double ventilated stepped hull with an extremely high X-dimension (2 inches above drain plug). BBlades recommended them because he said that double stepped boats w/high X-dimensions have a hard time caring the bow and the props tend to run in "airy water". The best news of all I am not at the top of the power curve. I have a bout 300RPM to get so we are going to lab. Should see another 2-4MPH!!! If I get 6-8 MPH for two $1500 (2 Revolution 4, 2 Lab finish). That is un-heard of, and will be the best bang for buck I have seen in my 15 years of boating. I believe the Revolution 4 are pretty new to the Mercury line, but I could be wrong.

Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
Just think how much faster it would be without the "yellow canvas"
Just kidding crb76 |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
Revolution 4's have been around since 1999.

Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
bb I took my 24ol out for one test run on my 26p B4 hit 5200rpm with it, it might have more but my steering is bad so I got alot of chine walk. we talked 2 months ago about the rev 25 do you think the 25 with lab to26or 27 would work better my carb was off to. I have 647hp 627 tq .
|
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
We prefer the Rev4 on Baja's. So do most of our customers. The Rev 4 is only available up to 25 pitch in both RH and LH rotation.
We should talk again. I have test Revolution 4's from 19 to 25 inches of pitch! |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
Bblades,
Why do they only make them up to 25P? Makes no sense to me. |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
damn it!...
as if i couldn't say enough good things about the revo 4's...now everyone knows... i, personally, think they are perfect for o/b's and small block applications....a motor with big torque may not benefit as much...obviously production limits the available pitches... my cruise on a twin sb 26 sutphen went from high 30's to mid 40's at the same rpm....i had 3 ear qs 21p's, now i have 23p revos... just my $0.02 c |

I did not like the rev4 on my 24 outlaw, but I only had about 425hp. It gave a lot of stern lift and I couldn't get the bow up enough. Another OSO guy-BigWaves???had one on his 24 OL and loved it. He had HP very close to yours |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
I have a 95 236 Rinker with about 470 hp at the prop that goes 69.8 gps. I ran a 25 M+, and tried a 25 rev 4. I got "exactly" the same speed at the same rpm with the rev 4. I did lose a few mph with the rev 4 at 3000 rpm, which I believe is because of the lack of cup in them. I also noted it did seem to ventilate more at full trim and didn't seem to carry the bow as much. Overall I believe a labbed 25 M+ will prove to be the best for me.

Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
Ive got a set of Rev 4's on my Scarab Sport w/ Some warmed over 2.5's
I did some extensive prop testing and here's what I found Same top end as Mirage Plus, but 6-7 MPH increase at Cruise Performed much better through entire RPM range than Bravo I 1.5MPH slower on top than Choppers. All in All best performing/handling prop I put on the boat and I tried probably half a dozen. |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
crb 76,
When we, (I was still at Merc), came out with the Revolution 4, it was designed for single engine 20 something foot Bravo, Alpha boats. Boats that were powered just right or slightly under powered. Boats that needed help getting on plane, help in the mid range and a prop that wouldn't deteriorate the top end too badly. Because of that thought process, we only offered RH rotation in 19-23 inches of pitch. In fact, the propellers weren't even listed as an application option in the 1998-1999 propeller dealer guide even though they were mentioned in the beginning of the book. Once we saw the benefits to the propeller expanded the line down to 15" of pitch and offered both rotations. This summer 25 pitch was made available also. Prior to leaving Mercury Racing, I was lobbying for pitch offerings as high as 27. Obviously I didn't get my wish. Of course they won't work on every application, but they have their appropriate place in the performance boating arena. |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
bblades,
Thanks for the insight. The folks over at Glasstream didn't find the 25 P in their catalog. I had to give them a part number. Once you finish labbing the 25P i am getting, they want a report. |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
brett..
your modern engineering and ideas coupled with good research have made me well more than content with the revo4's...nicely done, thanks...what's the next step? lab 'em?... would the gains be worth the investment? are you doing it to them yet? i have a 26' sutphen rumrunner, twin 350 mags, runs about 70 at 4600-4800, cruise is 40 at 3000. thanks for any ideas. c |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
Yes we are Lab Finishing them!
The rewards are like Labbing most of the propellers we do. Increased acceleration, smoother operation, icreased top end rpm resulting in top end gains. Your specific situation would require a fine modification to the standard recipe so as not to gain a full 300 rpm. What is your gear ratio? I'm glad to hear they are working well for you. |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
1.5 on the old drive..1.47 on the new (c/r) one..
it's not my doing..they came like that.....merc says with the new one "one" should not see a difference.. ...i think thats for the little guys..... .03 must matter?? if you do the math, it's a 100(ish) rpm dif for cruise+, which means the motors aren't in sinc for such an application... maybe that's why i get squireley at wot with the drives turning out? any suggestions? c |

[QUOTE=bbladesprops]We prefer the Rev4 on Baja's. So do
most of our customers. I read this post and seeing I have a 32' caliber I thought I'd give them a try. I have tried Bravo, Hydro's, and Mirages, so whats one more set! Well all I can say is.....You are correct when you said customers prefer them on Baja's, best props I ever had on the boat !!! Thanks for your posting....I wish you would have said it in the begining of summer ! If you did, I wish I would have read it !! The boat has never rode better !!! |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
BBLADES, Just wondering if you've had anyone put a Rev 4 on a Powerquest 26 Legend running a Bravo/ 454 mag efi stock? I'm currently running a 23 Mirage plus spiining at 4800 rpm at 58mph. I've tried the Bravo 4 blade but gave the boat to much lift. Its a true deep v with no pad.
Thanks |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
I am telling you bblades knows his stuff. I guess that is what a bunch of years at Mercury Racing's prop division will do for you.
Bblades, Let me know when you get my set of 25P Rev 4's. I hope you got the demo set back on Friday. I cant wait until we lab them. I have been running those 24P bravos the last two weekends and it is no fun. |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
302SR1, I have a 302 also w 225 Johnsons.... I am in prop hell with this thing... what pitch are yours? I've tried 22 Turbo 1's, 22 Turbo Ultra's, 22 Laser's, 23 M+'s, labbed 23 B1's.... yada, yada.... B1's weren't too bad... If the Revo 4's solve my *all around issue's*, i'll buy a set in a heartbeat. I need 5500/5600 rpm out of this thing, I tend to run it medium heavy on fuel and passenger load
BBlades, my 302 Scarab weighs 8,000# fueled up w/no passengers, what pitches do the Revo's come in? thanx, Jim |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
BUIZILLA,
I am running 25P on my 275 Verados. I went from a 24 Bravo One to a 25P Rev 4. What size Bravos did you try? |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
crb, the labbed B1's I tried, belong to my gen mgr, he has the exact boat and power that I do. He got them from Throttle Up, they are labbed 23's, originally 24's, and they work like magic on this hull. They were also cut down to 14.5", from 15". I haven't found a set like them yet elsewhere, so that's why I am very, very interested in the Revo's....
Jim |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
BUIZILLA,
On my boat I don't like the bravo ones. They don't carry the nose and in rough water they wash out. The rev 4's have great bite and settle the back enough to run in good vs airy water. They also carries the nose. With the bravo's my boat looks like it is running nose down. With the Rev 4's it runs nose level to nose slightly up. Plus I got 4MPH at every power setting starting at 4200-6100. I am having bblades lab them so I can pull the full 6400. We should see another 2-3MPH! |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
I need two 23 pitch LH rotation. I already have a new RH and am running a triple engine setup. Looking for a deal. If everything runs ok then will want to have them labbed.
Keith |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
The Revolution 4 propellers come in RH and LH rotation with pitch sizes from 15-25. We have a complete line available for testing if anyone is interested interested.
BUIZILLA, your 21's will ship tomorrow and you'll have them Friday. kr1276, We have one LH in stock but can get another in 1 day. We are very competitive in our pricing. Please give us a call and we can discuss the details of your set up and the possibilities you have. |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
Curious about BUIZILLA getting 21's when he had been using the higher pitch props. What reasons would cause one to make that big of a change?
|
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
Looks like the bulk of you guys are running the Rev's on outboards. Anyone running one on a mid sized single deep v with a sterndrive?? If so whats your thoughts?
|
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
Fast Forward,
A couple of guys above ran them on their Baja's. Bblades can help you figure out what is best for your setup. His number is somewhere on this thread. From my understanding the Rev 4's do really well with boats that need less stern lift and more bow carry. The help boats with a lot of transom lift settle the props down into better water(less airy) which gives better bite and carries the bow. Outboards and step bottoms tend to not carry the nose as much as a high powered in/out. It my case I have both. CrB |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
CrB, Thanks for the info. I've tried a Bravo 1 4 blade on my boat which gave to much stern lift for a very loose ride. The boat seems to prefer the Mairage Plus props, but if the Rev lifts the bow and not the stern that may be what I'm looking for.
|
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
Assuming that is what you need, I have heard from others the Rev should perform about the same at the top end as the Mirage 3 blade. You should see a considerable amount of cruise increase. Some have said as much as 7mph or something like that. Good luck!
|
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
crb 76,
BUIZZILA and I discussed how the Labbed "23" ran and where he needed to be. We decided to try the 21's first. We may end up working some 23's but need a base line first. fastforward, We actually designed the Revolution series for single engine stern drives. They have proved to work on many other application now. Let us know if you want to test any. |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
BBLADES I have decided to put a 2'' shortie on my drive so in the spring I'll run my lab 26 for a base to see if it hocks up. because might have to go to a 5 blade or would the rev4 still be good to try? and could it be lab to a larger pitch ? art
|
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
AIR TIME,
Once you get some numbers from the Bravo 1, we can discuss your options. Remember the diameter on the Rev 4 is about a 1/2" smaller than the Bravo 1. Drive heights do affect propeller selection. I'm assuming you're asking if we can Lab the 25's to 26's. The answer is yes. |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
Bblades,
Did you receive my props yet? |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
I recieved your voice mail and yes we did on 11-4-05
We'll try to get on ASAP. I took my "4th" day "off" this year last Friday, shame on me. Now it takes a week to catch up. I'll be in touch. |
Re: Mercury Revolution4 props
Great! Thanks!
I ran the 24 Bravos again this weekend. I look at performance at every 100 RPM from 6000-6400. @6000 = 65, @6100=65.5, 6200=66, 6300=65.1, 6400=65. Why is this? Is it props or could it be the HP peeks at 6200-6300 vs. 6400? |
