Default Bravo 1 VS hydromotive

I have a 24' Superboat. Approx 420HP .Went from a 3 blade 26P to a bravo 1 26p and went from 68MPH to 73 MPH (GPS). Performance increase was amazing. Prop didn't break loose on turns, hooked right up after getting air time, planned off without and cavitation. How would a Hydromotive 5 blade compare to the Bravo 1?

Hydromotive makes 2 5B designs. A semi-cleaver referred to as the P5 and the newer round ear blade design called the P5-X. Each propeller has different lifting characteristics, although both props will lift the stern more simply from the addition, of the 5th blade. So determining what lift you are looking for will determine the blade style for your boat. A rule of thumb is conventional Deep Vee boats run better with Round ear props and step bottom boats appreciate the cleaver design. Hope this helps.

In addition to what Julie stated, you will need to run the boat with more positive trim using the 5 blade than with the 4 blade. This can decrease the speed due to the gear case angle. If you are running low slip numbers now, the 5 blade may only be an advantage on the low end.

What year is your boat?
Which out-drive do you have?

I have a 1997 24' Super with a 502magMPI Bravo 1 drive. I run a 28p Bravo 1 that is being tweaked by BBlades right now. With the prop stock, the boat tops out at 75mph (gps) @ 4800rpm.

I have not tried a Hydro 5 blade yet but I do know a fellow running a P5X on a 24' Pantera. He loves the prop especially in the rough.

From the conversation I've had with different prop gurus, the boat is not likely going to go faster with the 5 blade, but it will probably handle better in the rough.

I do plan to try a Hydro P5X and a Merc Maximus this summer. If you get to it first, please post how she runs.
