I am going to be changing props quite a bit in trying to find the best one. What is best prop wrench? Where did you purchase? Thanks.

I am not sure,I just use a socket and torque wrench. A Merc. mechanic told me don't buy one of those floatable prop wrenches.He said they flex and you won't be able to get the prop nut tight enough. Just some food for thought.

I don't know if mine floats but I found a Merc prop wrench in my local marine store for $10. That wrench, a section of 2x4 and a set of pliers has worked fine for me; don't forget spline grease if they're new props.
I think it's only 55 ft-lbs on the nut; big thing is to have the tabs on the washer bent down correctly.

I bought one of those yellow plastic floating prop wrenches. The first time I used it, It slipped of the nut and sent my hand flying into the prop blade!!! Never again, its living its life in the dump somewhere.

A 6"-9" breaker bar (stainless steel), and 1 1/16" deep socket. Also a 1" extension between the two helps.

Tape the stuff together at the joints with electrical tape (it bends). That way parts won't come apart and drop in the drink. Also, most small breaker bars have a hole in the end of the handle. Good place for a piece of leather strap for your wrist. I've lost quite a few.

The plastic ones are good for 2-3 uses.

Bougth a 1 1/16 deep well and a 18 inch breaker bar.....So what it doesn't ratchet, I needed something easy to stow on the boat.

no wonder i have been having problems all these years.i have been using a vice grip and putting it in gear.............
