How is the 34 differwent than the other bravos? How is the 30 bravo?
I agree you have some slip issues.
I'm not real keen on the 6 blade idea and the 5 blade is a maybe. You will need to get the diam. right on the multi blade props.
If your 34 is a standard Lab Bravo1 from Mercury, it can be enhanced to run better.
The 34 Bravo 1 propeller is different than the rest of the Bravo 1 family. It can have a higher slip ratio.
I think testing a spacer may be the ticket. Does the boat react to trim well?

The 34 was the first attempt at a "over 30" pitch Bravo 1. It was to be the 32 pitch.
It is a long story which I have posted much about in the past. The blade geometry is different than the other propellers in the family. The water tends to leave the blades easier and therefore can make planing difficult especially with higher X's.
Your boat is more of a 4 blade boat. However, with the high slip numbers, the 5 blade will help to bandaid the problem. You should see improvements but maybe not much on the top. Still having trim capabilities is a plus. A lower X and 4 blades would produce the higher top end. 1.5 gears would help with low end and 5 blades too.
You need to determine your ultimate goals.

how big of a factor would the water pickups being in the hull in front of the drive insted of a low water pickup on the drive, how bad could that be adding to the slip problem?
