remove how much difuser ring?
The boat is a 35 single step 750-800hp. 1.36 gears -2 lowers with 30 labbed maximus props. I keep reading about removing the diffuser ring. How much of the ring should I remove?

It seems most of the discussion of cutting rings relates to chine walking problems. If you boat runs well at near neutral trim cutting may hurt you. the ring is an extension of the gearcase and offers a surface to carry the boat. When the stern carries too high is the time too conceder trying that. There are many variables that play into this. You are fortunate to have a boat that has been extensively prop tested. Go with a proven combination.
Try some cut props before you experiment with yours.

Seeing how I started all this difusser ring controversy, I figured I would chime in here. Jim stated when your stern carries high it may be time to cut diffuser. I'll have to agree with him. If you read my post in the Nordic section, you may have noticed that I had commented on handling issues and felt that the entire boat was riding high. One of the things I said to T-SPM prior to labbing my prop was that I felt the stern was riding high. His prop guy must have had the same thoughts about why the ring should be trimmed. I guess this was his reasoning.

There are many threads in this section relating to this subject. If you scroll back you'll find many explanations. Too long of a story for right now.
The difusser was never meant to be as big as it is on the Maximus propeller. We did it that way to aid in production.
If your boat gets on plane well, remove the difusser to decrease drag if the prop isn't surfacing. Remove it to decrease drag and stern lift if it is surfacing.
Depending on the situation and application, we will take them close to the blade roots.
We would need to discuss the desired results to make the final decision.
