Know that drill!
Would be interested to know if your prop guy nailed this on his own or if you had provided him a bunch of info to start with. I need to get some different props that work. So far not so good.

Great question RE
Some of this falls into a basic physics explanation.
Since I remember and saw these props Dean, I know you never tested them prior to reworking/repairing them. We don't actually have cruise numbers with these 5 blade props prior to the repair.
You picked up 4-5 mph over your Bravo 1 props at cruise. This is great, and to be expected normally with 5 blade Maximus propellers as compared to 4 blade props.
It's really tough to have good comparison numbers when you do not have original baseline information.
Typically the 4 blade props will have better top numbers and the 5 blade props will outperform in the mid- range and low end. That's what makes 5 blades a great everyday alternative. You'll probably find you love to run these 5 blade props most of the time.
Enjoy,
Brett

If Dean sees the same top end or better with these Modded maximuses compared to well dialed in Bravos that will be quite a accomplishment as everyone I know has seen better cruise but a slight drop in top end and it seems to take several mods and attempts to get these Maximuses dialed in , I'm waiting to hear the results myself, Smitty

Guys,
The "Lab" recipe I got from Joe L. @ Hustler for my rig specifically, 388 w/ 600's, ITS XR's. Hopefully on Memorial day I'll get to do some WOT testing, if I don't have to work!

AF,
Actually we have attained better top speeds with Maximus props over Bravo 1 or other 4 blades many times. There are certain tendency's we look for when recommending the 5 blade props (mostly customer goals). One obvious way to expect better top end results from the Maximus is to look at the boat (size, Wt, HP), next slip % is a great factor in the equation. If you fit certain criteria with those factors, more than likely you will improve across the board with 5 blades.
But, you do have to fit that criteria and more than 50% of rigs do not fit the criteria. That is why we say 4 blades are faster than 5 blades as a general rule of thumb.
Speaking of Joe LoGiudice, what a great guy. I've been working with him since before we built and Labbed the first Maximus propellers. I clearly remember the release of the 388 Slingshot at the 1997 Miami boat show. What a great hull! Really the first 85+ hull to achieve those numbers with HP 500 power. We speak often about propeller designs and set ups. He's always a pleasure to sit down with and share war stories with.
