I've talked to 2 cat guys recently and they both said the XR drives are a little weak for 5 blades. Is that true?
So blindriver you say you like the 34's and wouldn't take them off. Have you tried 34 pitch 5 blade maximus on your4 boat? And how did they work?
pstorti, your experience says you had same top speed with 29P 5 blade as a 30P 4 blade. Is that normal when you go to 5B should you go down 1 pitch? I also loved your action on opening air intake, it even seems to my newbie eyes it's a little short on air intake.
I think your prop problem is mostly a GPS setting problem

92 nautical mph = 105.8 mph

Ha! That maybe all it is, waiting for a break in weather to take it out again and that will be first thing I check. (Houston: 70 degrees but thunderstorms all day)

Looking at the maximus 5 blade they have removable hard rubber plugs at front part of the hub, what are those for? I'm assuming to reduce cavitation if needed?

for ventilation to break the props loose and get on plane easier, actually to create cavitation but only works at lower speeds doesn't make a difference at cruising speeds.

My best results have been 5 blade hydro motive P5-X. Plane better with less blowout. Drop 2 pitch sizes for the 5th blade. I run 31's in the 5 blade and am at 120 on the 6k limiters. Ran about same speed with bravo 4 blades 34p. If someone wants my 34's I will sell them. Have about 5hrs on them mostly testing.

Out In havasu a lot of boats have some sections of Bimini in a mesh that air passes through easier. I had one made and ran it up to 90 mph with no problems .frame was all stainless. Still keeps sun out fine. Staps in front stainless braces for the rear.
