Default Hard to find prop? VP SP LR 27-29P

On and off I have searched for an "old school" VP SP (270) counter rotation/left 27-29P prop (think it is ~17 straight spline?) and have had no luck.

Is this a hard a hard prop to find or do my search skills simply stink!?

That's an uncommon pitch for a Volvo. Frank and Jimmy's in Ft Lauderdale can make you what ever you want. Or you can buy an adapter and run Merc Flo Torq compatible props.

A Solas Titan 23 is more like a 25 if you want to give one a try.

Jeff - is this pitch uncommon for VP because it is higher than what most may be looking for? or was it the specific numbers I listed? I'll try anything between 27p and say 30p.

With respect to running an adapter, I had been advised not to do this. I don't recall why I was convinced of this and maybe I should reconsider this.

I currently have a Solas Titan 21p cupped/labbed and it is good for what it is. I also have a VP 23p SS that delivers ~ +5 MPH I'll research the 23p (i.e. price it out , from what I recall the Solas is reasonably priced). Would it make sense that the Solas 23p would deliver ~ +5 MPH over the Volvo 23p SS?

One other thing I just thought of that may be relevant here or signal something all together different. Sometimes when I come out of the hole hard or crank it up hard while cruising @ ~ 15 MPH the boat seems to stall and it is not an engine thing, the engine is running strong and it seems as though the prop is shredding the water vs. gripping it and pushing forward. When this happens the water appears very aerated (and yes the drive is down and not running along the water surface - trimmed up).

Hi Scott,

Yes the higher pitch would be hard to find. Not much demand for it. Anything higher than 23 was usually custom.
What is your gear ratio?
Have you considered trying a lower one numerically.

It is very common for the Solas to have very low slip. On my Magnum they yielded 6% slip.

I know that the Volvo Ultra were much more than that.

As far as one prop working better than the other. You just have to try them. Sorry.

It sounds like the prop is cavitating. Not too much you can do about that besides being a little easier on it.

My friend has a 23 Solas left hand. I'll ask of we can borrow it.

Throw this over to Donzi.net I think Volvo had a 26p Ultra. Someone may have one.

Jeff

Hi Jeff - thanks for the offer to help with the 23 solas. I think the difficulty of locating this high pitched prop is going to expedite the replacement of my outdrive to a duoprop.
