Default SSM Prop Shaft

It is my understanding the SSM 5 and SSM 6 both use a 26 spline shaft however the diameters are different, 1-3/4 vs 1-7/8? If this is the case would that mean that the prop adapters available from Arneson will not work on a propeller from a SSM 5 or big shaft SSM 4?. I have SSM 4 with the 19 spline shaft and was thinking about purchasing adapters to try props from a friend that had a boat with SSM 5 but I'm not sure the adapters will work. Also if I eventually upgrade to the large prop shafts will the SSM 6 props mount up without adapters?

The shaft sizes are 1.75 and 1.88" respectively forward the splines. The OD of the 26 splines are the same for both #5 and #6 shafts.
A removable bushing in the fwd bore of a "long hub" prop is interchangeable to take up the space for either shaft size.
If you have a 19 spline shaft, your shaft is 1.375". The adapters will allow you to run any 26 spline propeller. If you
go to a big shaft 1.75 or 1.88, you will not need the adapters.

If the drives are the older #4's with the 19T shaft then our adapters will work

If the drives are the #5 with the 26T spline you don't need an adapter, rather you just need a thicker bushing to go into the front of the propellers. As we spoke on the phone, if the propellers you are looking at are Mercury or Hering your not going to have any issues. If they are the old Keikeffer then your going to have problems. But who wants a 25+ yr old prop?

Rik you old devil. I didn't know you were lurking around my playground. Nice to hear you...
We missed you in Miami this year. Hope to see you soon.

Thanks Rik and Brett. So the adapter kit is 2 pieces, and the spline adapter works with any 26 spline prop to 19 spline shaft. What about the bushing is it 1.88 x 1.375 or 1.75 x 1.375 or does the kit come with both?

I would think Brett could make a 25 year old prop work....

I understand but the difference boat speeds over the past 10 yrs is mostly down to new propeller technology/deigns. My point is your handicapping your boat with older propellers.
