Default Baja 33 496 HO's 28P 4 blade

I have a 2003 Baja Outlaw 33 SST with twin 496 Mag HO's. Bravo one drives and Bravo one 4 blade 26P props.
Current numbers.....
WOT 5000rpm
speed 68-70mph
3/4 fuel
2 persons
The local prop shop . .according to their charts, said I could run a Bravo One 4 blade 28P prop and still stay within the wot guidelines of 4600 - 5000 rpm and pick up maybe 5mph.
Anyone running a similar set up with some actual numbers ?
thank you
B

You will not pick up anywhere near 5mph. You may even lose mph. Your current rpms are right where you want to be.
You want to run at the top of the WOT range to make the most HP. Running lower rpms with bigger props just lugs the engines more.
Having your props custom labbed may get you 2 mph on the top end.

HIVOLT....has responded
He has same boat with same set up
stock 496 HOs and 28P 4blade bravo one
and running 77mph at 5000rpm
Very interested on how he's getting those results.
me however
running stick 496 HOs and 26P 4 blade bravo one
and only 70mph at 5000rpm
Maybe diff ratio in the Bravo drives ?

Is there any easy way to determine your drive ratio ?

A stock 496 HO cant pull a 1.36 gear with the same prop on a 1.50...... I had a 2000 33OL with 502 mags and ran right where you're running with 25p M+.... if its a water meter speedo it could be off be 5 mph or more

do you know for fact you have HO mag 496 s ?? check the stickers on the PCM ? or if you scan the engine it will tell you the calibration number and the app the PCM should be on.

Also something else to check --- you might have a 1.65 gear ratio ? this was the standard ratio on the 496 MAG 375 hp engines. I see this as well - to much part replacements that are incorrect with all the crap sold on the used boat parts market.

Are the 26 B1's truly bone stock? Have they ever been repaired? That is critical as to the current numbers you are seeing.
You're efficiency is actually pretty good right now for this hull. The rev limiter for your engine is 5150 and we love to prop the engines tickling that number.
A moderate Lab could be done to the 26's to look for a mph or so but I like the idea of the 28 Labbed a bit more aggressively with the rake angle adjustment we do on a 33OL.
The boat will carry better, respond to trim better and should see a increase in mid range cruise speed, and fuel economy. Top speed should also go up 1-4 mph.
The only down side is it is possible the acceleration will be a touch less with the 28 castings although the Lab work will help that too compared to the stock 28's.

You can always try a set of stock 28's through our test program first but I don't think you will like the results as stock.

Default 33 Baja

Thank you Brett

I'm going to run the boat this spring and get some solid numbers with my current 26p Bravo One Prop

the prop shop here in MI that I deal with is going to let me try a set of 28P Bravo One Props and see what results I get before I buy..
