Here's a pic of the cols mounted to the bracket we built to mount on the valve cover. With the stainless marine GEN III exhaust there was not much real estate.

Man Jason, nice work. I'll have to stop in and say hi one of these days'. Keep pushing on...................... Bill
|
I was lucky enough to see these bad boys in person the other day! Sorry Jason you had to clean up the mess I made :drool1: all over them
|
This is the reason I come to this site, I love these threads. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing. I can't wait to see the final product and I can only imagine how you feel.
|
+1
And thanks to the guy that posted the link |
Sweet engines. We may have similar builds, minus the fuel injection. Did you post your engine info? 14-71s?
What heads, size are you running? Good luck, make power. |
Thanks for all the compliments guys!
Thanks again Kev for posting the link. I wish I would have just posted this in the General Discussion forums since very few people look outside of there. Please feel free to ask any questions or provide any input. The engines specs are; Dart 598CI 4.500 x 4.600 Oliver Rods 6.7in Ross Pistons custom built to achieve 8.5:1 cr Madara Cam- specs not shared out of respect to Bob PF Inter-cooler Blower shop intake Pro Comp Heads- They has been completely reworked and I have a ton of money into them now. The good thing is they flow just about 400cfm at .700. I could have easily gone to a different brand and probably save some cash after what it to straighten them out. 14-71 Blower shop Blower Look back through the thread if you have not as of yet, there are a lot of custom 2 off built parts. I'd appreciate the feed back. |

Very cool. Did you ever get your water pickup figured out? Gil had this made, goes on a Top Gun, no adjustment. He actually notes that the water coming off the notch actual "squirts" upward into the pickup (while on plane) . With the dual stage pumps, should have enough suction until I get on plane.
We are also doing some custom stuff, although maybe not as exotic as you are. I am running 572 ci w/ 14-71 TBS blowers, they made pretty good money off of us two in the past few months... |
Very cool. I have not done anything with the water pickup, I will probably buy a Teague one.
I know I've dished out my fair share of cash for my project. I just got off the phone with Rik about the Arneson parts I need. He is an Awesome guy to work with. So I should have some Armesons to assemble soon! Do you have a thread on yours? I may of missed it. |
No, I never really started one. Sometimes when I think of the project, I get a little agitated. It's been too long, spent too much money, and missed too much boating.
In the end I'm sure it will be awesome, but I'm ready for it to be all over, for the mere fact I no longer have to think about it. And then there's repairs and maintenance..... Your boat will be awesome, hope to see it someday. I really like those Black Thunders, neat boats. Keep trucking along and get her wet this year. |

I hear you there! It has been very hard to keep from getting irritated over the build. This thing has turned into such a "might as well" project it's not funny. If I am doing this I might as well do that and that is the thing that is killing me. It has turned into so much more than I ever really wanted. I call this project my Mona Lisa. Since it going to be a one of kind and a billion dollars! Lol |
Yep, right there with ya. It sounds all too familiar.
|
Good updates! Hurry up tho because its becoming boating season here in MI
|
Boating season is coming for sure. Took the pontoon out with the family mothers day. But no Checkmate ride yet. Hopefully soon!!!
|
What a great thread on one of my favorite boats. Thanks for taking the time to document and share with us, definitely a monster part of why I like this site! Keep rocking man.
|
Thanks for the compliments. It's been a long road but I am getting towards the end of it.The more I get deeper into this build and the more sophisticated it becomes I sure do have a greater respect for guys that do this for a living.
|
Hey guys I've made some progress tonight. Pretty much all I have to finish is up is basically the wiring. I am building all the harnesses to my specs for my application. It takes a lot longer than one would think. I am so over it! Here are some in between pics. Don't worry it may look like a mess now but it will all be neat and tidy before I go to the dyno.

i would die with all those wires... i HATE wiring! have fun!
|
Finally got a few extra minutes to check out the thread. Looking good I like the coil on plug. I think between the two of us we should have the stupid wiring crap down pat LOL.
|
wow, I just found this thread! Looks killer! I was impressed with it when I met ya's at boyne thunder a couple years ago, Cant wait to see it again in person!

Something I learned on my one of a kind boat was it would probably never sell if I tried. Luckily for me it was wrecked and insurance paid out. Keep that in mind, and save receipts and part numbers.
Looks good though, I'm a big fan of custom fuel injection. |
I want to see some dyno sheets
|
As said before...great thread and thanks for sharing! Where the Fuk do you find the time for this!? I dont have kids or a wife and I have trouble just making time to clean my garage!
|
I sometimes wonder how he finds the time also, especially when some guy  talks to him on the phone every day......;)
|
IS that thing wet yet?
Me neither, updates? |

Dyno sheets?

Sure do! They ended up meeting my goal hp numbers. But more importantly they start and idle beautifully. I am more than pleased with this build; it’s been a two year long project. I installed the engines and drives this past weekend with the asssitance of a few god friends. I will be doing the final finishing touches throughout the week. Should water test this coming weekend! Thanks to all involved for the advice and knowledge that you've shared, Eddie, Rik and Ben to name a few. I would like to especially thank my father in law for all the custom machined parts he has made for it. It would have never been completed without him. He has spent countless hours at the machine shop, and I mean countless. I can't thank him enough.
Boyne Thunder here we come!!! |
What a tease
|
Wow, well worth the read! Awesome build, keep it up!! Can't wait to see the beast run
|
After Boyne Thunder when things settle down a little I am sure he will post dyno sheets and TONs of pics showcasing the rest of the build. If not I will get spy photos for everyone!

Late to the party , what a great read . Need to see rooster pics ! Great job !
|
Well... I finally got her finished! We did make it up to Boyne but we did have a set back. I guess it's all part of it. Oh, if you don't already know, I hate transmissions! Going to get it tore out and repaired and ready for Buffalo. It is going to be really interesting when I get all teh b bugs worked out. I think the Arneson's will work out really well. Thank to all involved for the help.
