Just stumbled on this thread Awesome job Sir! you certainly have to be very proud of your boat. What a wonderful job, were you able to get the bugs worked out this fall? and if so what was the results for top speed?
|
Hi all, thank you for all the compliments. I had a head come a part so I am headed in a new route with a new set of heads, cam, rockers, valves, springs etc. I will post some pics as the build progresses.
|
Well, it's been a while since I last had an update. I have not worked on the boat in a long time. After a valve broke I basically removed the motor and took off the valve cover to see what happened. Since then we relocated to a different state and bought a new house. However, I am happy to say I will be headed back to Michigan at the beginning of May to bring the boat and engines to their new home so I get started on the engine builds. I will post some pics of the progress. Not certain which direction I will take this build, I have been thinking about twin turbo's in place of the super chargers but we have to see where my creativity takes me!

Congrats on the move! What city did you decide on?
We ended up just north of Watertown in town called Emmet. We are on 10 acres and so far we are enjoying it. We should get together and talk boats some time. |
Just enjoyed a weekend visiting Jason and Jenny at their new house! Now that they are settled in we need to motivate Jason to continue on the boat project! Here are some pics I had laying around.

Nice! Glad to hear you found a spot you like! I was just up that way at the trailer shop off of 26. I was buying some moving boxes. We are actually moving out to Pewaukee. I will be a little further east but we will have to still hook up. My shop Is actually just outside of Watertown. I will probably keep that for a while.

Jason will you be at Boyne Thunder this year?

Hello I'm new to the forum but I would like to tell all Boaters who have had a McLeod Designed interior. That recently we here at HRT have purchased the Mcleod Design Group, we are currently available for any updates to your interiors or new interiors sorry for the delay. Many banks and legal issues had to be solved before going forward I hope we can help all our offshore Powerboat friends in bringing the high quality of Mcleod interiors back under the new Name of HRT. We have retained all of the interior components and personal to continue making great high class interiors, thank you and sorry for the delay. For updates to interiors contact me, here on the forum or please feel free to call.
Sincerely Miraj D'Ave Project Engineer HRT 248-284-1170 EXT: 113 |
This is great thread!! Jason, has there been any progress on the new set up? That sucks on the valve drop issue, I said to myself WTH when i read the Motor specs and you mentioned Pro Comp heads. You threw all this time and money into this great resto and the Pro Comp name came up! lol Good luck with the new Motor set up!
what did you run for the ECU? AEM ? and where your injectors Low Impedence or high? |
Boat is home in Wisconsin now so the project will continue. I will get blocks out to the machine shop and pick up the new heads at Dart in August sometime.
Yeah, the pro-comp heads was unfortunate deal (lots of money tied up there) and a very long story that I will not go into. The ECM is a MEPHI 4b and I run high impedance injectors. |
Jason, Have you decided on going with twin turbo's or are you keeping the big Superchargers?
|
I will most likely be sticking with the 14-71's for now. My main goal is to get the motors together with the new heads, cam, and valve train combination.
As most of you know I had several transmission failures of varying degree. So I have decided to take an out of the box approach to building a more reliable version of the 72c transmission. Not sure what will be the outcome but it will be pretty custom I'm sure!!! |
Did this run?

I would post some pics but this site is such a pain anymore, lot of things to do just to post some pics. Maybe when I get bored! lol
|
TTT for this one. Updates?
|
Curious how the Arnesons run on the Black Thunders. Any updates?
|
Wow that diamond plate is awesome. I am looking for ideas to clean up and refinish the engine compartment on my 1996 208 Islander, which i"m doing a complete stringer out/cap off restoration on.
