Any updates?

250ekelly 09-11-2013 11:09 AM

still outta work so doctor wont let me do much but I did get the gimble housing all done completely rebuilt it and painted it. got it mounted on yesterday along with motor mounts. this stuff is so time consuming spent 3 hours wire wheeling bolts and motormounts but its coming. waiting on harmonic balancer and head bolts so hopefully motor will go in not this weekend but next.

250ekelly 09-11-2013 12:00 PM

250ekelly 04-22-2014 10:58 AM

Found a smoking deal on a heat exchanger but I'm not sure if it's big enough. He said it came off a 3.7 but I'm thinking he meant 5.7 I want to atleast chill the block and possibly manifolds if I can. What yall think

250ekelly 04-26-2014 09:33 PM

got some parts and modivation

the factory alt/ pwrstr is bulky and ugly so I think im gonna get rid of it and make my own.
ground down the valve covers where the coil packs used to mount filled the in and cleaned them up some. I think im gonna make some brackets to hide them behind the heads.

Watch out about putting your MSD box on the manifold (I realize the manifold is designed to mount it there). The electronics are completely potted internally but heat and ultrasonic vibration are MSD killers. Even putting it on a bracket off of the engine can act like mounting it to a tuning fork and over time shake it to death. Best place for it, is high and dry on the stern where it can stay cool and have the least about of ultrasonic vibration.

Worked in the Nascar industry for 6 years.

thanks I was wondering about that. I need to find a extension harness....

250ekelly 05-10-2014 02:54 PM

manifolds came in. im planning on making my own ss semi dry risers but after seeing these in person i think it will be harder than i thought.

i was thinking 3 inch inner and 3.5 outter. the circumfernce of that exhaust oval is around 10 1/4 and 3 inch pipe circumfernce is 9 1/2 so that gets me close if i massage the end of the pipe into this oval shape

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...506969_HDR.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...515485_HDR.jpg

the water jackets are my second problem. im thinking when i give the guy the drawing to burn the mounting flange, make it dry joint and just drill 3/4 NPT hole in the center of the front water passage so i can then just have a jumper hose, and weld a bung on the ss pipe. if any one has ever done this before please tell me im not crazy.......

250ekelly 05-25-2014 06:46 PM

made coil brackets today out of some aluminum. not the best looking but im ready to get this thing in the water!

yea i just bought some off summit. i got the motor in and they work. i havent lined it up yet but it looks like it will work.

got bell housing on. actually had to trim it a little coat it was hitting the bolts on rear cover. i wish i had a bridgeport machine :poopoo: big drill bit took care of it nicely.

the flex plate works to. bought a flywheel from rockauto for like 80 bucks. 2002 5.3L 1500. only thing thats different is the bolts there metric.

sdg0080 06-29-2014 10:06 PM

hmm interesting about your bolts hitting. maybe there are slight changes in differnt castings of the bellhousing. thats a nice way to set your coils up. my engine should be home very soon, so I'll get some shots of the set up alex built for these engines. did you keep your factory intake? if you ever want to run efi I can tell you get the schematics from the dealership. I found a ton of them online but some of them are slightly different. I'll have to post my dyno results once i get that done. I can't wait to see your boat finished up man. you pick out a color scheme for your boat? or are you staying all white?

BenHaizlett 07-28-2014 09:08 PM

Your getting there! Instead of drilling on the bell housing, I put regular hex bolts in the cover and had plenty clearance. I just built a 6.0 for my checkmate. First start yesterday. It's a 403 stroker. The 5.3 started knocking a few weeks ago.

I'm doing a LS in a pontoon FYI

250ekelly 04-14-2015 12:16 PM

Wow Ls in a pontoon that's cool. Yea I'm getting ready to start it up this weekend I think. I need to post some more pictures

250ekelly 04-27-2015 09:11 PM

update:

ben working on it a lot lately. got to start it up last weekend!!! :cool-smiley-026: I ended up having to pretty much pull the whole interior apart. the wall between the cabin and cock pit was only attached with two screws on the bottom. I think the build quality on these small boats aint as good as the bigger boats.

after I started it I had a few coolant leaks. take a look at the clamps I bought I though they would work better than worm gear clamps but I don't think they do. they leave a small gap right under the bolt of the clamp. im kinda worried this thing isn't gonna be reliable. I think I spent to much time making it look neat rather than function/ longevity.... after starting it the cam sounds a bit more radical than I expected. im worried about water reversion. I need to pull the exhaust off and check. .... please chime in with your opinions on any thing you see that I could improve.

got the garage up few months ago. don't know what id do wit out it now. my dad gave me these cerwin vegas he bought new in 86 I refoamed the subs they rock! :cool-smiley-011:

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._214232601.jpg

I made this harness for the engine. FYI if any one does this and has the msd box up in the dash yr gonna have to make yr own extension harness not hard just tedious. you can get the plugs and terminals from eficonnection.com. if you do it like that it will leave you with 3 extra spots on the engine side of the harness. tach ( because that wire will come off the 16 pin plug on the msd end of the harness) and yr 5volt supply and map sensor signal cause you really don't need it. so I used one for starter solenoid, and one to excite the altenator. and then one spare. that way you got one nice clean plug for every thing on yr engine.:cool-smiley-026:
