nice work.
Is that a quonset style garage? i was thinking about putting one of those up where did you buy it from and how do you like it? |
been getting some more done. working on the wiring and loose ends. almost finished my side console with the throttle and switches.
i got 3 different lower units to try v8 ratio v6 ratio and 4cyl ratio. im thinking the v6 is gonna work good. set my msd box 6500 rev limiter lol :D http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._194336801.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._230642193.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._230649491.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._231048048.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._231100609.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._231120219.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._231146900.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._231217376.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._232133173.jpg |
250 I give you and others credit who take on DYI projects. Not only do most of them turn out great, I can't fathom how much you guys know and the patience I don't have. I look forward to seeing the progress.

This is just plain AWESOME!!!
I want to see this thing on the water and see what kind of speeeeeed you can hit! Great job man, keep up the good work!:food-smiley-007: |
Excellent job! Keep it up!

Took it out today. Ran good got a problem with the power steering getting really hot. So hot u can hear it boiling in the reservoir. Idk why it's doing that. It sounds so good with a 21 it goes 52 and hit rev limiter. So i put some prop i had laying around on it come off out board i thing. 24 pitch. Ran 57 after that but still hits rev limiter very easy at 5500 im gonna bump it up to 6300. But id like to find a prop that goes mid 60s at around 5600. The gear ratio is 1.68 il post some pics and video. What do yal think about prop
|
Sounds like a 1.50 drive is the ticket.
|
Call BBlades!
|
Power steering needs a cooler that's why its boiling. The boat looks great nice work.
|
I have a hydromotive qiv -22p-rh if that might help
solid hub for older bravo pm me |
Wow!!! Great build love the detailed pics..

I need to post more pictures and videos I will this week just been busy. I put a power steering cooler on it and it's still getting rely hot. It's not smoking any more but I can't touch the hose Idk I'm gonna just keep running it.
I found out tho I'm not hitting the rev limiter tho. I'm either running out of fuel or floating the vavles. I bought a nice 750 Holley that has been gone thru by nickleson performance. Guy said it was on his 400hp 350sbc. My a/f gauge was reading 14.5 then would jump up to 15-16 at 5500 and start popping. I took the bowls off and primary was 74 I put in 77 the secondaries had 84 I put in 85. It's still Got the power valve in it. I ran it again and it's better in the low and mid range reading about 12 - 12.5 but as I increase rpms it leans out and starts popping and won't rev past 5500. I think I need a stiffer spring power valve? ?? The only thing I'm worried about is the lifters every thing in engine is new except for those. Comp cam valve springs. Will a lifter act up at a high rpm and cause this issue? I'm thinking it's fuel related because of what my a/f is saying. What y'all think? Thanks |
What size fuel lines, what fuel pump, and what fuel psi are you running?
|
Mallory marine 4140m pump with matching regulator. #6 line to a pre pump screen then pump then fuel water seperator. Then into the regulator. And I have a separate #6 lines coming out regulator for front and rear bowl.
|
-6 sounds small to me. I would use -8
What fuel pressure are you running? Did you set the float heights? sounds like your running out of fuel at high rpm edit: -6 may work from regulator to carb, but is to small for a feed line |
I haven't watched my fuel pressure. I did adjust the floats. I'm gonna run it again this weekend. I'll watch the fuel pressure. If it stays consistent I figure that would rule out the hose size? I agree -6 is small tho I just don't want to have to redo it lol. I'm gonna go try a stiffer power valve first. I think the air bleeds on this carb have been modded to I need to do some research and see how those work. The afr steadily leans out with the more throttle I give it....

This is the resistor needed to make the alternator charge. Its 470ohm 2watt just run a keyed on 12v to this then into the Brown wire going into the alternator and yr set

Looking real good man. Great job on the wiring.

Any news on the fuel issue?

If it is hitting the limiter I would assume it would do some crazy stuff with A/F
|
Will the alpha hold past 5500? I always thought that was about max for rpm in those.

Hahaha... I love your way of thinking.
|
It's the only way to do it with an alpha. Keep one or 2 good ones sitting around. If you break it, take it home and throw another on. Then your back in the water in 1.5 hrs.
Just an idea. I ended up finding a good boat with a bravo on it for 5,000. I bought the boat and did the swap. It was very easy and didn't take long. It was cheaper then buying all the stuff for the bravo. Also you get to see where it all goes and how it's routed. Not to mention then you can resell the other boat and recoup your money. A bravo swap for nothing essentially. Good luck with the other alpha. |

Idk what to do the boat needs a transom. It's got some rot around the exhaust. And on the bottom it's cracked on both sides of the pad. When I take it out of the water, water drips out the cracks so I think there some de lamination going on. Idk wether to take it all apart this winter redo it with bravo bore the 5.3 to 5.7 with a supercharger. Or just sell the boat now. I Got someone that would buy it now. |
Transom hole is the same, and so is the inside plate of the transom assembly. You just need to drill the top 2 holes. I used the inside plate for the template. Then you bolt the bravo outside assembly onto the back of the boat. Allign the motor with the new gamble and then start hooking up the new water system.
I have a different perspective then some on the glass work. I put a whole stringer, transom, and floor in a Century arabian for my first boat. It wasn't bad. Alot of time to do it right and it can get expensive. If you like the boat and you did this much work I would put a transom in it and keep it. Buy fiberglass mat on line. I bought a bunch for the arabian off of eBay really cheap. I haven't seen those deals recently though. Also I buy aero marine epoxy 3 gallons at a time. I just bought some gel epoxy, I can't remember the brand, that worked great for vertical prices since it doesn't run. Also you can buy the pigment color which works well All in all its your call. I like to enjoy the fruits of my labor. Unless the price is to good to pass up, or your done with the boat I would keep and make it better then the factory. |
well.
got me a 1.5 and hit my best speed.... 61... it didn't last long though. me and some boating friends did a 80 mile run from west point on the York river to new point lighthouse in the Chesapeake bay. I was about 10 miles from being back at landing running about 4500 and waaabamooo!!! blew up another drive. worst part was I was about half mile infront of every one and not in the center of the river I stood on the bow waving and all of my friends passed right by me! (4 boats) of course they didn't see the cell ringing until they made it back to landing.... yea it was a long night..... this time I think it was my fault. I topped the drive reservoir off that morning and forgot to put the cap back on. when we got to the bay, (about 40 miles) I checked and found the cap was off oil had been blown every where. I filled it back up and replaced the cap but I guess there was and air pocket in the drive because the oil level never went down that night. when i looked at it the next morning it was empty. pulled the top off the alpha and it was empty to. i really wasn't happy with the way the boat turned out. the transom has some soft spots the are under engine is delaminating, the interior looks like crap. so i decided to completely take it back apart again and fix the rot the right way. i got a nice low hour bravo off ebay. i think its around 1990-1991. also my swim platform from extreme marine showed up. shout out to larry there this thing is very nice! http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...904_125414.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9061511481.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9061511491.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9061511581.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...drive%20by.mp4 this is a video i took of my friend driving the boat when i put the 1.50 on it http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...-21-31-491.png you can see where she broke http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...-21-31-491.png the tide pulled us out quite a bit while waiting for rescue |

ben working on it a lot lately. got to start it up last weekend!!! :cool-smiley-026: I ended up having to pretty much pull the whole interior apart. the wall between the cabin and cock pit was only attached with two screws on the bottom. I think the build quality on these small boats aint as good as the bigger boats. after I started it I had a few coolant leaks. take a look at the clamps I bought I though they would work better than worm gear clamps but I don't think they do. they leave a small gap right under the bolt of the clamp. im kinda worried this thing isn't gonna be reliable. I think I spent to much time making it look neat rather than function/ longevity.... after starting it the cam sounds a bit more radical than I expected. im worried about water reversion. I need to pull the exhaust off and check. .... please chime in with your opinions on any thing you see that I could improve. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._233914466.jpg pulling apart the dash. im redoing all the wiring I found some wire nuts so I said f it im starting from scratch lol http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._140626895.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._014823894.jpg throttle consle was all jacked up and rotten so started making a new one http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._174314390.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._175635747.jpg got the garage up few months ago. don't know what id do wit out it now. my dad gave me these cerwin vegas he bought new in 86 I refoamed the subs they rock! :cool-smiley-011: http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._214232601.jpg I made this harness for the engine. FYI if any one does this and has the msd box up in the dash yr gonna have to make yr own extension harness not hard just tedious. you can get the plugs and terminals from eficonnection.com. if you do it like that it will leave you with 3 extra spots on the engine side of the harness. tach ( because that wire will come off the 16 pin plug on the msd end of the harness) and yr 5volt supply and map sensor signal cause you really don't need it. so I used one for starter solenoid, and one to excite the altenator. and then one spare. that way you got one nice clean plug for every thing on yr engine.:cool-smiley-026: http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._192508871.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._162658732.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._102318310.jpg I had a friend make this water neck so plumbing to the heat exchanger was easier. I cut the old one out and pressed this one in. no leaks so far http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._102409165.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._203503083.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._140720775.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._140609145.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._140557515.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._140534989.jpg little rig to start itn http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._194026072.jpg here I am priming the oil system http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1..._193404824.jpg |

Your speed numbers sound way too low to me. I had an 86 scarab I which has a different deck than the later excels but same hull I believe. It ran low 60's with a 454/330hp, mirage 21p 3 blade and alpha 1.5 drive. I also found an old PowerBoat report on the Excel that tested it at 58-59 mph with the standard 350 mag so I think my non-GPS speeds are reasonable. I ran that boat for 10 years with no drive issues and that was a 454 BBC. I did add a stern jack later on and an alpha ss 1.32 gears and got it to run about 70. Stern jack and standard alpha ran high 60's.
The LS must be lighter and more HP so your boat in my mind is a 70+ mph ride??? Interested to hear what you find when you get it dialed in. |

Yea I never got a chance to try different props. I just hand junk props on it to get me in water. Thanks for the kind words and motivation swiss! Should boat in garage by first of year!

Yea it's all together. Well except for the interrior but who needs that. Boat runs great. Bought a SEI drive and it's been holding up great. I bought a 30ft century I been working on. Got any pictures of the new project?
