What is the actual horsepower range you plan to run them at? Or is that still on the table?

Really cool project dude.

I’ll let kidturbo answer the question, but I think we pulled 1,080hp and around 1,800 ft.lbs. We will have a map for that, but everyday running, we simply don’t need that much to achieve are goals......

We are yet to test props, but the thinking is we just don’t need to go super high pitch and diameter, as we have a pallet of gears for the drives...so we can achieve everything we need with those....

Peak rpm was 4,200, all day cruise 2,800 - 3,000 rpm which we would like speed at around 75-80 mph. At 1,700 rpm we were running 3 pounds and 40 mph from memory and sipping fuel.....peak boost was 55 psi.

Maybe kidturbo can correct me if I am wrong, but the boat will simply be able to go all day.

I can’t wait to hear those 9 inch diameter ceramic bearing turbos screaming their nuts off! Oh and drenching everyone behind her!

We have named her ‘VooDoo’ by the way......

The sweet thing about these modern diesels is you can turn them up or down 30% or more with just couple changes to fuel and timing tables. On the dyno we started out down in the 600hp range, then turned up the fuel until we ran out of boost with the twins. With this single turbo setup we started off around 750hp then went up till ran outa fuel at 950hp. Now with bigger injectors, basically have to turn the fuel back down again to get where I'd like to see them running for a while around 850hp. That would be roughly 1400lb ft torque, or double what the old 900SC setup made. With current drive gearing setup, I'll bet it runs out of RPM before it runs out of power..

Once you get wheels big enough to really load it up at high RPMs, you’ll probably be struggling to build boost when planing off. Does it have aerating tubes for the props?

No top cavitation plates on the Weismann drives. And X currently set so high, I think half the props will be out of the water when tied to the dock..

I recently ask Tyson how his Cummins spool with 40pitch props on the M8's and similar gearing. Said they don't like it, could use two speed trans. Luckily we have a pair of his old 2spd transmissions .. So our 1st gear ratio is a 1.66:1 final drive. Which moves the RPM and torque way up, and top speed in 1st gear down to like 60mph.

What I really would like to know is if this setup will run better with big pitch props and current gearing, or overdriven with like a 27pitch prop??

Few updates from last week.

On a 24 hour weekend marathon with our young enthusiastic welder, we finished these 27lb exhaust pipes. Doesn't look so tough, since you can only see 1/2 the job. Huge respect to anyone else who's built one-off fully jacketed head to transom 316L turbo tubes.

Delivered to polisher yesterday. Once back I'll add the jacket ports and mixing tubes, then weld the turbo V-band rings on last. For now, back to the plumbing below the engines while we can still get there.

Yeah, they are 10 feet behind the boat. Seriously, out of curiosity, how far are they?

Its been done before dude.... The Baja boats of Thailand already figured out your X dimension. I think thats a diesel too. LOL
