it fills and cures properly with less chance of leaving an imprint in my mind... Glassdave will have to chime in on that subject

Simcoe still has my hatch I blew off the last time she was in the water... that's what started this whole debacle in the first place!! I hated those hatches :riding:

correct sir, its a much more stable surface that lends itself pretty well to fine tuning repairs and mods.

what are you looking to plant? :fish:

gotta get some updating in here . . . . its 3 a.m. . . . . i have a few spare minutes lol :D

after finding some PPI style seats to copy and building a shifter console it was time to get the saw out (again) and convert the cockpit from traditional split seating to the outside to centered seating against the console.

did some mock up before chopping anything out just to get some direction. I made a new dash top to get some style in there and give a lot of room for gauges.the dash thing on the right was added at some point in its life and for whetever reason was anout six inches further back then the drivers side. . . . . thats gotta go.https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f8af9c2a5c.jpg
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d21ab0afc4.jpg

glassdave 09-19-2018 02:32 AM

after a lot of cutting and trimming i started mocking up panels to find some foot room for the passanger seat as the new cabin access will be from that side. its actually pretty comfy when seated and you dont really have to climb over anything to get seated like in a lot of cats. i have a 36 Nor Tech close by me that i have looked at a couple times and i am loosley using it or referance, this cockpit is every bit of two feet wider and less crowded. had to move the drivers side foot well forward about a half a foot but there is a sh!t ton of room on that side.https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...8e539953ab.jpg
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b588ca776e.jpg

glassdave 09-19-2018 02:47 AM

at this stage the mock up panels are a bit roughly fit but this allows changes to be made to refine the design. you'll notice at this stage the upper new piece and the face of the old dash are even, this was later changed to a step that looks really good and gave the face some more dimension. Also the top of the console , the angle met the bottom of the dash, this was also moved back to expose a flat area for cop holders, heads up indicators, etc . . . https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...3fc0ddabfc.jpg
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...bb1d9ac811.jpg
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a653c09c56.jpg

glassdave 09-19-2018 03:03 AM

after pulling all the flatwork off it all gets edge prepped and glassed back together. the area under where the old pass dash was open so the floor was ectended back to the cabin bunkhead. this serves as a bit of a 'hallway" for the new access. There will also be a small storage area just inside the door for fenders and stuff. stitching the pieces together, i also remover the old gauge pod completly and filled it inhttps://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...26fdfa1313.jpg
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d635871ef4.jpg
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...cfca2e6f08.jpg

glassdave 09-19-2018 03:17 AM

at the last minute i decided to move the upper top gauge riser forward to stepmthe dash. makes the dash look lower, cleaner and wider (as if anything on this boat needed to look wider ) . . . and again glassing it all together . . .https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...6d3e5215d3.jpg

glassdave 09-19-2018 03:39 AM

Blended the lower section of the dash where it goes under to give a good clean finished look also really
adds to strength and gives it a finished look. Glassed it all together . . . permanent . . . coming out pretty cool and functional with lots of room for gauges and stuff also sitting in it everything is fairly comfortable and within easy reach . . . . actually reminds me of the Star Trek Enterprise :D https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...bebd8e8543.jpg

ahhh the joys of being glassdave . . . . ok its almost five and i have to get up in a half hour lol . . . back to the grind . . . literally :D. more to add later . . . . . zzzzzzzzzz

outonsafari 09-19-2018 09:01 AM

Artwork dave, wish i could do a quarter of it.

Are those baltec panels, another brand or did you build them on site.
The pictures make the tape/ tabbing look like 0-90 material, but im guessing its bi ax
and what im seeing is the stitching.

Dont leave out the materials your using and why ! hows the rest of us supposed to learn ?

no i make panels on site to suit what i need. The tabbing is all 45/45 on just about everything i do except transoms or the occasional stringer i will alternate in 0/90 to give me four axis. Using 0/90 over hard straight angles leaves one full axis useless and simply along for the ride doing nothing for the laminate.

yeah we need some updates here for sure . . . Al should remind me once in a while . . . :hitfan:lol . . . ohhh she's coming along :D Winters not even here yet but its coming to  . . . . some updates for the snowy days on the way

All those pieces a few pages back are all glassed in and final faired. The dash is pretty cool and with the center mounted helm reminds me a lot of the Starship Enterprise . . . lots of room for LOTS of gauges https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f98664c3da.jpg

Also did a mock up for a windshield riser that i had in mind to get rid of the old flat one to also allow the seats/helm to be moved inboard. Along with the riser we decided to open up the vents and do away with the louvers, https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2b4b56a46b.jpg

made a mold off the mock up to allow me to make a large fairing section, I feel its better in the long run doing it like this because it provides a better final part even though its a one time use mold. I call the process "quick an dirty" molding, its a bit more up front effort but the final part is cleaner and easier to adapt then any free lofted part. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...446d293627.jpg

some initial fitting of the finished part, Fits good and has a good arc side to side. This part was made about six inches taller the the final shape/heighth will be. This is done so the bottom edge where the windscreen is going to sit is a prefect fit also provides a nice lip for it all to attach to. . . . When the windscreen is on it will kinda flow with/around that pod in the center of the dash top. . . . https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...04f7f7c033.jpg
