Default Monza MX 24

Hi everyone,I am newbie to this forum and I am a new proud owner of a 1982 Monza MX 24 with a big block Chevy I believe is a 427 with a TRS out drive .The boat is in excelent condition all round except was not stored properly and the cylinders have rust .I have a newer rebuilt 454 that I was going to put in and my question is the engine in the boat has no circulating water pump.I have never seen this before and assume it is to save HP ,the 454 has a water pump on the engine as well as a sea pump.should I stay with the original setup or do I use the 2 pump setup ?

are you located in connecticut. my uncles friend use to own a 24 in the 80s called heats on and later the name was changed to redline and the new owner put 427 in it. as for the 454, is it complete with the thermostat housing on it. if not i would use the set up from the 427.

I am in southern Ontario, boat came from florida,I assume the 427 setup would use less HP but was wondering if it would cool as well.30 years of boat repair and never seen this done ,but often wondered why the cerculating pump was needed .there is a transom mounted water intake that scoops the water from an inch below the transom so there is a lot of force at speed to feed the engine.also less pullys and belts with the 427 set up.
