Here is some updates from mine. Pretty much a new boat now. New paint, interior, XR drive, and 598 Procharged engine

Have only had it out a couple times and cant seem to get it prop'd quite right. I have a deep X, 7 1/2" i think. Best Ive ran with the new motor is 74 but in flat water. Usually gain 3-5 mph in 3-4 footers but i was hoping to hit 80. Engione dyno at peak HP of 749 @ 5500 and peak Torq of 820 @ 3800

Thanks Chis, hopefully we can make it down there again next year, anymaybe we can both make the entire run without any help too

Scott, yes, i am running a M1 Procharger with anout 4 lbs of boost. Could make 750 natural with the motor I have if i could spring for some new heads but im a little over extended as it is and i already had the procharger so what the hell.

I wanted to ask you guys what you think i should be running for prop. I have had the best performance with a Bravo 26 where i was running about 5400 r's @ roughly 74. Last night a tried a Bravo 28 which might have been a little labbed (dont know the history but you can tell it was labed in some way) and was turning 5200 at WOT but only running 72?? The dyno sheet showed that the torque falls off at 5200/5300 so i was right were I needed to be with the 28 but why am i not seeing at least the same speed as with the 26? I did try a Mirage Plus 27 but I couldnt get it to hook up and wanted to cavatate, it would turn 56-5700 r's but only running upper 60's. I always thought that with my deeper X I should try to stay with a 3 blade prop but that 27 sure didnt work and couldnt seem to hook up and no throttle response like with the 4 blades (they put ya back if your not holding on ). Any advice on what to try would be great. Thanks, MIKE

What heads are on it now ? Also out of couriosity what kind of compression are you running ? Yeah I didn't figure you were making a ton of boost with a M1 on 598 cu"

As for the props if the 28 has been messed with it may not be the best baseline.. it did slip quite a bit more than the 26 did & not know whats been done to who knows ?? In my opinion its gonna be hard to run a 3 blade on a 28' deep V with any efficiancy.. It would be really nice to find someone that would let you borrow a 2" or 3" shorty.. Even with the drive burried that deep I would have guessed it would have turned the a bit harder but its always easier to say that in theory.. haha..

Its has stock steel heads that have always been on it, that and exhaust are the major contributers holding the engine back, but its comfortable where it is, nice and mild

I got a really good deal on a new XR but i was looking for a 2" shortie to put on it because that would help a TON. If i could find a good deal on a shortie i would jump on it, even if it were just a lower case and i had to transfer the gears, less the shaft of course.

The last thing im gonna try, if i can find one, is a 29 3 Blade and see what that does. Before the motor work i was running a 500hp 502 with a 25' Mirage 3 and that worked really good compared to a 4 blade so i dont know... i was really hoping to hit 80 and still might in the right conditions and right prop. IDK, just glad to have it running again, and 10 mph faster than before! CHEERS

sorry that mine isn't done so I could let you know if I am right or wrong about heights on these boats BUT my baja hit a wall at 75 with 585hp or 650 hp as soon as I put the 2'' shortie and recarbed I hit my red line at 6000rpm 83.2 gps never got to try a 28 drive was stolen with outer parts. ernies sutphen was set at 4 3/8'' propshsft last yr I told him what I planned and he went with a new 1'' shortie to 3 3/8'' and loves it pick up 4mph boat went 92 now 96 with aprx 950hp 31'6'' straight hull.what sux is even at 5'' you might be loosing speed. its always cheaper to go down. thats why I redid my transom so if anything Imight have to go a 1/2 or 1 lower but I don't think so. we will see before christmas I run it hope for nov.

Boats looking good Mike, good to see your back on the water. I may go for one more ride this weekend if the weather does what they say. Your prop dilemma is interesting, I agree with Scott you should find an untouched 28 and see what happens, seems like you should be in that 28-30 range with that HP. Your builder would know best but I wouldnt spin it past 5400. I might be worth calling BBlades and getting his opinion on the prop. Also when if you are trying 3 blades I was told the standard Mirage worked better than the plus on our hull.
