Anybody know of any big power 28 singles ? Or know of what the fastest single 28 is & what power ? I am Not asking to get in a pissing contest , I am just curious of 28 single speeds & whats out there to compare to. Most that I have seen have had stock 502 's.

martin, i talked to phil about your boat when it was for sale.
If it had been for sale a yr earlier i would have gotten it instead of my 24. I have alot of pics phil sent me... still look at them once in a while. :( Keep up the great work... |

when i was looking for my saber there where two single offshores for sale the one i purchased and a 93 you will see people talking about from middleville, the 93 came with a 502 also. from what i was told the boat had ck motorsports did a fairly easy buildup, ported heads diffirent cam not sure of grind roller rockers exhaust manifold and reprogram ecu. kieth at ck said it made about 550hp and the boat would run over 70. the motor was removed before i looked at the boat , but the info i was told came from two diff . people one being the motor guru of grand heaven. hope this help in your quest for speed, one thing i can tell you when its all said and done you will still smoke a fountain in the big waves!:D
Thanks! |

How about a little more info on the '93. Did you ever look at it? Opinions? Does it have the 550hp now or did have or was this your boat? Not sure I followed that right. I think the yellow 28 with 454's went to cali last summer didnt it? Any info on the '93 would be appreciated.
Thanks! |
Yes I am talking about the all white '93 with a single 502. Do you remember anything about it? I have seen the boat before but not up close. When was the engine switched and why? Whats in it now? Do you have any contact info or sources of information that might help me out a bit more.
Thanks! |

My head gaskets are on the way from Gellner. I have been meticulisly cleaning this week on the engine & parts in order to be ready for my final parts to come in. Such as my headgaskets from Dean , & My other Cam to come in ( I was sent the wrong the cam the first time from herbert ) I am going out of town next week & I hope to have everything & be able to put it all togather when I get back. I will keep you guys posted with a few pics. as progress continues

I looked at a 28 in Grand Haven a couple years ago that had a 502. All white and I want to say the 502 was fresh, no trailer. Seems they were asking low 30's.. Always been one of my favorites.

93 back up for sale
did any one notice the 93 28 offshore is back up for sale on oso. i looked at this boat 2 years ago in pretty nice cond. he was asking near 35000 then. If someone is interested in a 28 I would highly recommend this boat.
|

Thanks , Phil & yes that does help. I will try to give him a call sometime. When you say bigger HP do you have any Idea how much ?
|
That thing is beautiful. Saber really needs to start pushing that 28 again. They really have some classic lines that never go out of style. Really reminds me of an Apache. Anyhow great job on the 28.. I believe they salesman told me it ran low 60's with the 502? What are you doing for power?
|
the boat still runs low 60s, in the planning stages of some motor upgrades. but a new house has slowed the process.
|
Did the house thing 2 years ago. To be honest the boats much more fun!

Martin the platform looks good & so does the interior , Actually the whole boat looks great. Excellant job on the resto
I may be interested in a platform latter on. ( Just remember us little guys when you start selling a ton of them.:p ) Thanks for finding out about the X-dimension , I am not trying to second guess Doug , However I figured that it would be a little higher than that. 15" would put your propshaft right around 7" below the keel which is pretty deep. I can't remember but what year is your boat ? & what year was the last single built ? |
Thanks I really appritiate it & yes it is info that I can use. I got to spend a couple hours on the motor today & I must say it felt pretty good.

Time for an update of the update thread :D
As some of you have figured out already my 28 Saber "No Excuses" will most likely end up with 2 XR ITS's on the back of it. & possibly twin small blocks ( but the power options are still up in the air for now ) Either way I am very thankfull & blessed that I am no longer in need of an outdrive !! I would like to say thanks to everyone that spent their time emailing me with various drives they either had , found , or even knew of. Thanks guys I plan on running the Pantera a bit this summer while I decide exacly on how I want to power the boat. I will be sure to keep you guys informed as to how progress is coming along. After all this forum could use a little action. :p Here is a pic of what the rear of the Saber will most likely look like in the near future , Only in good ole fashion Yeller as we here in the south would call it . Latter guys , Scott |
"Oof" I saw that boat for sale and thought about doing the samething, buying it just for the running gear!!! That will be one SWEET set up when your done Scott!!! Can't wait to see it!!! Are you useing the motors out of the pantera also?? What were they again??
|
Not 100% sure if I am going to use the motors or not. They are 350's & they run sweet , Just not exactly sure what I want to do yet & I am keeping my options open for now. Yeah I am excited about those ITS's hanging off the back.
|
2 boats? I envy you. I have enough trouble with one :)
CTA |
Trouble with boats whats that ? ( sorry for the 2 month delay )
The Pantera is almost apart. I pulled both drives , all of the gauges , shifters , steering helm ect.. Saturday & then I pulled both motors today. So there is a little progress being made towards the Saber. |
sounds like better progress than Im making. the machine shop is taking there sweet time but they are saying by the end of the week Ishould see my parts back ready for assembly. If everything goes as planned I should be seeing the lake at 70+ by first of august.

Do you still plan on selling her after the summer?:D |
pretty much a complete repower, getting rid of the fuel injection for a good old 850 carb. leaking exhaust manifolds sure can get expensive if not noticed soon enuff.
|
What kind of parts are you using ? pistons , heads ect....
|
taking it to a 509 srp pistons gm performance heads 2.25intakes ported and flowed, comp roller cam 560 lift, rpm air gap with 850 speed demon, msd ignition, and stainless marine high torqs. ct marine here in michigan says im looking at just over 500 horse he wanted to give the motor as much torq as possible thats the reason for the cam and intake and carb looking like there on the small side. im taking his word for it on this one he says hes done saber 28s before and this is what i need . hope he is right
|
You should have no problem making 500 hp with that. Any idea what the compression ratio is ? Are you guys going to dyno it ?
|
I pretty sure they are 9.3to1 but it will end up a little more from decking the block. I dont think im going to dyno it getting tired of spending money on it

So do you still plan on selling her in the fall or what? |
still a dyno is a good idea, just to make sure its ready and running just right, before you drop it in the boat. could same you time and $ in the long run.
