Update

You guys will be proud of me. Although it is not an outdrive :(
I ordered the new Cam & lifters , gaskets ect.. to start putting my motor back togather. I hope to take my heads to the machine shop within the next few days to have the reciever grooves cut out & also a slight compression raise to get it where I want it. I will have a few small things to do after that such as glass bead the intake , some basic clean up ect... & I will get everything back in order & decide exactly what color I will put on it. Progress is not going as quick as I hoped it would , however it is progress.

ctadams21 02-22-2007 09:54 PM

Cool. Post some pics when you get it together.
Can we assume you are going with a blower since the heads will have reciever grooves?

littledcsrodshop 02-23-2007 08:44 AM

Yes the boat will have a supercharger on it. ( a rather large centrifical ) :D. Actually I am eliminating the reciever grooves That are were already in the heads. I will be shure to post some pics. ( hopefully soon )

Heads are taking a trip to the Machine shop this afternoon.

ctadams21 03-03-2007 09:44 PM

Took my motors in a few weeks back for a valve job on the heads and they ended up getting complete overhaul on both.

littledcsrodshop 03-03-2007 10:21 PM

Both sets of heads or the motors ? I assume the motors by the comment. Ifso that stinks & is always a rude awakining ! :(
I just took them my heads & told them exactlly what I wanted. How much I want them milled so I know what my combustion chambers will come out at , & told them exactly how I wanted my springs set up ect.. I always do everything myself with the exception of any machine work. That way I know that it is done right & I know exactly what is going on. Not that there arn't great reputable engine builders out there that do what they say they & will do no more no less , because there are many. the guy I took my heads to is an old friend of mine from my street racing days & I have much confidence in him.
That is the key , Having a good working relationship with a machine shop that you trust. Almost like keeping a good banker or 2 that is willing to work with you. It seems atleast for me in this sport that they are both very important.

ctadams21 03-04-2007 07:24 PM

Both sets of heads and both motors. It started innocently enough with a valve job and snowballed from there.
I usually do my own assembly after the machine shop work is done but I thought it would go quicker if I took it to a shop.
Unfourtunately it was not quicker and will probably cost me a ton but at least it's done and I won't have to 2nd guess myself.
Good luck with the project. It should scream when it's done.

martins custom marin 03-06-2007 09:39 PM

glad to this boat going somewhere

i am glad to see someone turning the 96 cyclone into something . my parents live down the road from where the boat sat for sale i must have drove by it 50 times and imagined what could be done with or how i could talk my wife into two 28 sabers. keep up the good work and keep us posted

502 415hp 24pitch bravo 1 gps 61mph in about 8in of chop x demension not sure but i will ask doug tomorrow dry i was told the is 4800# can not belive it is that light but the info came from doug . i built the swimplatform myself, used my rollcage building skills from my sand drag racing days

littledcsrodshop 03-07-2007 09:41 PM

I hope it is 4800# , They are balsa cored all over so that is poss. & if it came from doug I am shure it is right. What kind of rpms are you turning ?? I am really interested in the X-dim. I would love to see a good picture of the swim platform. Also did you do the paint yourself of did you have it done ? I am a painter by trade.

martins custom marin 03-07-2007 10:15 PM

i will have to get on the other com. to get some full pics of the platform i have changed the design slightly on other ones i have built. i had my bud that painted the boat paint it house of kolors base imron clear, much easier and better covrage with powdercoat. 4700 rpms i think i need to adjust the throttle stop tried three different props includ. a3 blade 24 4700 is all it do

littledcsrodshop 03-07-2007 10:23 PM

That is 14% prop slip. Please post the X-dim on here if you get it from Doug tommorow. Like I said your boat really looks great ! I look forward to seing some more pictures.

Stormrider 03-08-2007 10:43 AM

mcm, was your boat the one that was all white for sale a few yrs ago? i think it was in california at one time?

btw, it looks great... any interior shots?

martins custom marin 03-08-2007 03:55 PM

yes the boat originaly went to cali. it was all white i purchased it in grand haven 2 years ago. i will get some more pics posted asap

littledcsrodshop 03-09-2007 10:16 PM

talked with doug at saber yesterday he told me my boats x dim. is 15in. and you will run into prop cav. problems if it set higher than that without an ext. box. Im posting some pics of the swim platform and interior. some sings of the ice and snow melting boating not far off now.:D

ctadams21 03-10-2007 09:57 AM

That swim platform looks great. Are you building any commercially or just for yourself? If I keep my current boat, it could use a swim platform.

martins custom marin 03-10-2007 10:37 AM

yes I am building and selling them. next week iam starting to build a demo model with diff. desings and mounting configs. I will take some pics during the build and post them. thanks for the input.

Stormrider 03-10-2007 11:20 AM

martin, the boat looks great... you changed the interior right?
if i'm correct i remember the interior to be a white/aqua/blue fade.
if so, great improvement.

littledcsrodshop 03-10-2007 12:04 PM

Martin the platform looks good & so does the interior , Actually the whole boat looks great. Excellant job on the resto
I may be interested in a platform latter on. ( Just remember us little guys when you start selling a ton of them.:p )
Thanks for finding out about the X-dimension , I am not trying to second guess Doug , However I figured that it would be a little higher than that. 15" would put your propshaft right around 7" below the keel which is pretty deep. I can't remember but what year is your boat ? & what year was the last single built ?

the boat is a 95 and it could be the last one built. next time im in my shop ill measure the dis from prop shaft to keel and let you know. I will will always be willing to make one for a fellow saber! special crowds have to stick together:cool: :cool

littledcsrodshop 03-10-2007 04:45 PM

I belive your boat was # 19 built , mine was # 21 & I know the one between us ( # 20 ) was also twinn like mine was. I don't know what the last one # 22 was.
Either way what I was getting at whether It was yours being a 95 or the one built after mine 96 or7 being the last time a single was done I would think the X would be a little higher now due to the fact that props now are more accomadating to higher X- dimensions. ( Just my 2 cents )

martins custom marin 03-10-2007 05:35 PM

i did talk with doug about that, my boat orig. cam with a 23p three blade mir. the cav was on the bad side under hard acc. and hard cornering , with the bravo 1 all of that problem was elliminated. i considerd a imco shorty, not quit sure how short i would like to go . i am completly on your side with props out now just consider how much prop the drive you decide on can handle. hope this helps

Hey Martin, I still have your C.D. changer sitting in my office. Did you sell the trailer that I sold you with the boat? I saw you out a few times last year just never caught up with you. If you would like the changer give me a call. Phil

I thought # 22 was a twin , Just not for shure. that would put martins 95 as the last single that has been built to date.

What does your boat have in it for power & what kind of speeds are you seeing ? Thanks , Scott

martins custom marin 03-10-2007 05:59 PM

hey phil how do you like the boat, little bit diffrent now . next is some big power. I needed to hear from you about 10hrs. ago when I was in grand heaven. I would like to get changer. I worked a deal with my painter buddy on the trailer for the paint work. I will be up to saber in a few weeks , I will give a call to possible pick it up. thanks martin

Martin, The boat sure looks Good. What kind of power are you thinking, I always thought the new 525 would be awesome. If you are going to sell existing Power let me know as a friend of mine is going to re-power his Saber and he has a tired 502 carb engine. Just call when you are around and I will get the changer to you. Phil

martins custom marin 03-10-2007 06:39 PM

phil, I have not made up my mind yet, alot of possibilties with a fresh motor, if i decide to do a 540 I would be willing to work some kind of deal, is the motor still running ? do you possibly know the year of the motor if not the boat? martin

Sounds good, The boat is in the thread of post saber pics here. It is post #76 first pic, original owner, original power, top end freshened couple years ago. It runs fine he would just like fuel injection and fresher power. He puts about 10 hours a year on it........... does that sound familiar? Let me know
Thanks Phil
The year of that Saber is 93 or 94

littledcsrodshop 03-10-2007 08:05 PM

Anybody know of any big power 28 singles ? Or know of what the fastest single 28 is & what power ? I am Not asking to get in a pissing contest , I am just curious of 28 single speeds & whats out there to compare to. Most that I have seen have had stock 502 's.

clc900 03-10-2007 09:02 PM

There used to be an all white with a single 502 for sale a few years back. It was from Middleville area, guy lived on kalamazoo ave. Any info on it? Did it sell?

Here is a shot of the intake with fresh paint on it.
The Engine compartment is solid yellow, So the bock heads & intake will be the custom mix red with black Manifolds & polished tailpipes. Polished Blower , Carb box , Intercooler & all tubing. I will probaby do the valve covers in black with my logo on them. The engine compartment should tie in well with the rest of the boat & hopefully should look really nice.
