I did consider it. if I was building a stroker motor i would go for It . my machine shop is already 2weeks behind a dyno pull would probibly happen about mid november.

I know what you meen about spending more $$ its like this hobby cost you $$ just to think about it. I was kinda hoping you would dyno , I would be interested to see how the Saber compares to other boats with the same power. ( kinda selfish of me ) If I had to guess I would say that it should make would make 517 HP. & no I don't have desktop dyno just a fun educated guess. I wish you the best & I cant wait to see how it runs.

The infamous Git-Er-Dunn-D. Why don't you go ahead & send "Martins" a check for that Dyno run & I will re-emberse you for that later. " I promise the checks in the
mail " :eureka:

As for the HP Guess some of us Tennesseans arn't really sure how to even spell dyno , so we just become educated guessers. Works like a champ untill we are completly wrong & then we just say thats what it would make if I was building it.

BTW : Pay-up & get a membership you tightwad ! :p :D

:party-smiley-048: well guys the motor is in ready to start it up thursday break in and tweak at the lake friday and then off to Grand heaven and the coast guard fest for the weekend. Im so ready toburn some fuel in this thing

wieland77 08-02-2007 07:46 AM

You said your x-dimension is 6" right? Just wondering waht prop you are using and at what rpms. I have the red 87 28 and rebuilt my motor last year. Turned 500HP and 525 FPT on the dyno. I am running low 60's with a deep drive (7 1/2" x) with a 25' mirage. Curious to see what you can do with probabbly a little more HP then me with a shorter drive... HAVE FUN! MIKE.

Congrats ! I know you are excited to get that thing back in the water & I am anxious to see how it runs out for you. I wish you the best & hope you have a great trouble free weekend.

Well .............. Did you get to run the boat ??

martins custom marin 08-10-2007 04:54 PM

ran the boat a few small issues but im vary happy havent opened it up yet so top speed is unknown but I pretty sure a new prop is needed mid range is where Im noticing the most gains. its loud enuf now for the sherriff to write out a nice fix it ticket. new carb some diffrent screw in studs longer pushrods and some mufflers and I will be back on the water next weekend

littledcsrodshop 08-23-2007 11:40 AM

Have you got a chance to get the boat back in the water yet ?
I hope you got your glitches straightened out , it seems that those things always take a little time to get straightend out.

It would be nice if this stuff just went togather in "real" life like it does in theory but then if that was the case everybody would be a hotrodder !

Wow ! I hate to hear about the power steering line but I am glad to hear everything was fine with the tornado. 150 Yards is Way to close for anything in the path of that. I know you guys have been having some serious weather in that part of the country. It has been extreamly hot here & we need some of that rain you guys have been getting. Again glad to hear everything is ok.

Glad to hear that that everything went well. How much fuel were you carrying ? What kind of RPM were you turning & what prop ?

Yeah i guess winter is not far from ariving on you northernews ! It has cooled off a bit here & I am actually enjoying it for once , maybee that is a sign of getting older. lol.....

I am about to head down to the shop & do alittle cleaning up around N.E. As some of you know I have been gathering parts this summer for the boat & I have pretty much everything for the boat to rig it either with twin small blocks or with big single power... I am just about to finish up a 10 month project on a buddy's 69 Z28.. It has taken up pretty much most of my project time since I started it ( other than some time I got to enjoy the Pantera this summer before stripping it , So I havn't been completly boatless ) The Saber is Next !!! Which actually worked out really good because as I said I got to do some boating this summer & It will give me this winter to work on the Saber with No rushes
which is how I want it !

Here is a pic. of the Z28 taken from my phone last week. The car will be Hugger Orange ( as you see ) with black stripes. What you are seeing is actually what I am using as sealer. That will be painted over in a couple more weeks with PPG DBC basecoat & 2021 clearcoat with the stripes burried underneeth. I know this isn't a classic car forum but I know we are all hotrodderes around here & we love pictures so....

I know its not directly Saber progress but it is progress in that direction.

Here is a pic. I took today of the 69 Z28 that has been taking the better part of my spare time... It is finished !!! :D

ctadams21 12-05-2007 09:08 PM

Very Nice! Does it have the original DZ 302?

CTA

littledcsrodshop 12-05-2007 09:38 PM

It is an actual Z28 ( not a clone ) & he has the original 302 sitting in his garage.

at the current time it has alittle more HP in it. The car has a pretty cool history. He has owned the car for 30 years & back in the 80's it seen its fair share of late night street races. My father painted the car for him 21 years ago & this time it was my turn at it. So that is pretty cool to me b/c as a kid I always heard stories of this car & how bad it was. It also managed to survive a complete house burnout several years ago thanks to a quick thinking "carnut" fireman.

We gave the current motor alittle attention to this time around with a fresh set of RHS 235cc heads , a set of 1.6 rockers replacing the 1.5's & a new large single plain intake to fit with the heads. He took the 302 out several years ago so he wouldn't hurt it , but has it if he ever wants to put it back in the car. However the car Is Not & Will Not be forsale as long as he is kicking so it makes more sense & alot more fun with the current set-up.

Beautiful car!! Now get to work on the boat!!

littledcsrodshop 02-14-2009 10:36 PM

Andy , I wish I had some good update news but.... Lately I havn't been able to quit working on 2 wheeled & 4 wheeled projects long enuff to touch the boat !! I have been working about 80 hrs. a week for the past month trying to get caught up but I am still not able to see light at the end of the tunnel yet. Although I catch myself from time to time complaining about being to busy, I have to check myself especially the more I see people in my area & as we all see around the country laid off , places shutting down , ect..ect.. I realize just how thankfull I should be that I have plenty to do.

I try my best not to spend weekends working on customer stuff but I found myself at the shop again today (as I have for the past few weekends) working on a customers Softail deluxe that they will pick up monday just in time for another Street Glide to come in the same day , not to mention a shop full of wrecked customer cars & an out of the norm. retro driver I am building for myself.. I realized I can't post any pics. b/c I havn't renewed my membership , or I would post a few pics. so we would atleast have something to look at on one of my threads..

Brad , Thanks for the comment & hope all is well with you & your family !! I'm pretty confident your business has been steady as usual too..

Mr D 02-15-2009 11:59 AM

Glad to hear you're so busy and prosperous! How about sharing the wealth with some of those skilled unemployed that need 40 hours a week? Rock on!

EVER GITTEN - R - DUNN ?

FunHome 02-15-2009 12:15 PM

Yea, we are staying pretty steady... Busy as usual... but that doesn't mean any extra $$$ for me.... Just more time at work!! Aren't family business's Great...

Hope all is well with you guys!!

BTW, as of right now we are planning of racing at Cumberland this May you ought to come up and see us!!

Busy yes !! Prosperous ?? Wealth ?? thats not My story I would have to say you have the wrong cat on that one... I would say that I personally haven't figured out the combination of those two working togather yet.. I may be working 80 hrs. a week here lately but that doesn't neccesarily mean that I actually get paid for 80 hrs. of work... As I am Sure I'm not alone I better know the combination of small business self employment & the responsibility of keeping mouths other than my own feed at the same time.. So I do what I have to do to keep that moving & the hobbies go down the list... I struggle for nearly everything my family & I have.. But if thats what it takes , thats what I will do !!

So as for : Ever Gitten -R- Dunn ? Time will tell...

littledcsrodshop 02-15-2009 02:20 PM

Hey Brad , I just seen your post... I must have been to busy paying attention to my money counter (that thing runs all day & night just trying to keep up !!) But you know how that is !! Lol...:p

When & were is the race at cumberland ?? Not sure how close it is to Cumberland Marine but the best I can remember I am only about 3 hrs. from somerset.. If I can pull it off I would love to come hang out & get a little dirty if need be..

littledcsrodshop 02-20-2009 12:37 AM

Inspired not only by Jdub's motivation but also by his sweet looking new seats... Here is a not so exciting update to the not so very often udated thread (I mean come on guys these are Sabers not production boats this stuff takes time.)

I actually went tonight & picked up one of my 2 tanks that I am fabricating.. I have had some guys help me with part of it (Including a great start by a very gracious fellow Saber owner.) They are still only half way done , but hey at that rate another 6 months from now & I may actually have the bilge painted & a comlpetly finished pair mounted in the boat... Hows that for speed ??

Hey Sean good to see you over here where the thread pace is alittle slower..

Yeah those extra hours are helping to keep me out of the hardcore thug scene.. lol.. Ofcourse you West Cooaasters know all about that...:blaster:

Any serious bites on your boat ?

Since this is my thread & I'm not to sure it can possibly get any more offtrack , I will go ahead & ask you how is the racing going ??

Dude! Sweet! 02-26-2009 06:10 PM

Ha! Can we help it if we're just "outside the box" thinkers? :D

Nah, nobody serious about the boat. Nobody's got any money, seems like. I had a couple of race boat trades in process, but my wife had a change of heart on her disinterest in boating... So I've decided that unless I get the "right" offer, I'll keep it and enjoy it.

I actually had it out twice in January and then took my buddy's boat out with our kids one day as well. Pretty cool.

The racing... Got all my stuff prepped and ready to go for the first race in January and ended up working until like 1 am every day the week before. So, I left the karts in the truck and tuned (poorly) my buddy's rotax. This month I worked my ass off all month and was no where close to being ready to run. Ended up working race day...

We'll see, hopefully I'll be able to make it happen for March, but if not definately April.

Too much work and too scared of getting canned to shine anybody on and tell them I can't do their work. There'll be a time for racing when the time's right. :)

littledcsrodshop 02-27-2009 03:02 PM

Outside the box are you sure we even know theres a box there half the time ? lol...

Glad to hear you & your family are enjoying the boat !!

Be sure to let me know how the racing goes..

Out There 02-28-2009 08:08 PM

Hey Scott,
I was in Athens a few weeks back did not have your #.
Looked around a bit and could not remember just where the shop was. I found the bank though! Anyways, I found your # and will give you a call. Just curious about the beast and was going to drop by.:drink:
Greg

littledcsrodshop 02-28-2009 11:36 PM

Would have been glad to have you stop by !! Kinda funny you found the bank , although thats not overly surprising since we did do a good amount of bank traveling the last time you were here.. lol...:D Hope everything is going well with you...

Just incase anybody is woundering Greg is the proud owner of one of The sweetest 24 footers out there..

Okay I told myself I will Not post any pics of the bilge until its painted but jdub this ones for you buddy.. I know you are feeling very lonely right now as you are the only one on the block posting pics of your progress so heres a shot of todays progress... The bilge looks like absolute ---- right now as you can see but oh well its too late now..

For those looking at the pic wondering what they are looking at & can see past the mess.. That is one tank mocked up & bolted up.. The bukheads (mounts whatever) are in place , bonded & ready to be glassed hopefully the first of next week.. The tanks & bilge will ofcourse be slicked out just a bit & painted a nice shinny color.

I'm not moving at the "dubsters" pace by any means but hey atleast its progress.

jdub 05-03-2009 08:32 AM

That's the chit...man you never have to worry about dragging a cooler around anymore! I never would have thought to add a keg in my boat!!!:ernaehrung004:

Seriously though that is going to be very cool. Can't wait to see it all finished. But just cause you posted a pic doesn't mean you can take a break for a year...keep em coming!

BGIII 05-03-2009 09:44 AM

If you don't mind, I'm curious why you chose to put in saddle tanks rather than just use the existing tanks?

Originally Posted by BGIII (Post 2857765)

I did it for a few reasons , but here are the main ones..

I was affraid I was going to have trouble pulling equally out of both of the existing tanks.. You can do equal length hoses & into a Y ect..ect..ect.. But I was still afraid I was going to carry an un equal amount of fuel on one side of the boat.. The saddle tanks will have a 14-16AN balance tube between them that I couldn't really do on the existing tanks..

Another reason is I prefer the way a twin sits nose high in the water over the more flat look of a single..

Also the added weight in the rear v/s being in the middle of the boat will also allow the boat to carry the bow much better at speed..

Lastly it allowed me to set the X a bit higher due to the fact that it will naturally carry the bow better..

As many of you know I debated & debated on exactly how I was going to rig the boat.. Twins v/s Single & I had the option of both & this really just worked out best for me & in my opinion gives me the best of both worlds.. The boat should sit in the water real similar to a twin with the easier maintenance & room of a single.. Even thought I took some bilge room away by adding the tanks it will still have a good bit more work room than twins..
