Have you guys talked to Kirk from Elite Marine? He had a 28 Panera with a Konrad and huge power and I don't think he ever got his running right. No idea what his issue was, but maybe he can shed a little light on his struggles and maybe some things for you guys to check.
On another note, I'm pretty sure Art's boat is the lightest 28 that Saber built. |
1k would be like 1' try like 5000 lbs at 10'.

The engine and drive package is close to a TRS set up. Now just add the weight of the blower and cooler and the box.

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...ive-weigh.html Based on what I have found the TRS drive only is 122 pounds. So if you add the 50 from what Kurt said on the other tread you are at 170 pounds. I have no idea how much the box weighs in at? Transmision is about 109 pounds if it is a 72C plus fluids. I would guess the gimbal is about 30-40 pounds more then a bravo. So what does the box weigh 100 pounds? If we assume that is close that puts us as 410 pounds. probably 250 more then a bravo. Don't forget however that 410 pounds is about 12" or so farther back then it would be with out the box. So to counter this I would think that the 500 pounds in the bow is probably close. Now add the weight of the blower and rigging.... Probably another couple hundo pounds? That is all well behind what should be the center of gravity. Even the gas tank is wall behind were I think the center of gravity should be (behind the drivers and passangers bolsters). I am not sure 500 pounds is enough!:eek: |
NOW I know why Gerry wants me to come for the test! I weigh
275lbs.! Never thought I could be the deciding factor in this experiment. I've been called alot of things in my life...but a "sand bag". I guess a man has to do what a man has to do when he's called upon. That's what friends are for. |

My thoughts too, completely new untried untested setup and has only been out a couple times. This boat is one of a handfull of sub 30' vees I would put that kind of power in. Maybe moving some weight around will help, but if they run fine as twins??? All depends on where exactly the CG is, but a 100 gallon tank behind the seat at roughly 6-700lbs full on a shorter arm than a 1000 lb big block plus outdrive on a longer arm should impart less of a rearward bias. Unless the CG is way back and the under floor tanks give have a long forward arm/bias I really dont know the answer to that. I still have the gut feeling it is more of a prop thing or outdrive placement/leverage thing but I am no marine engineer. I would be VERY interested to know the results of a bottom blueprint, removing the rocker and sharpening the strakes/transom. I have thought about it but would like to see someone do it first. Art, you are more than welcome to be the one to do it :) I know there is some rocker designed in, but is there hook as well, and if so what for?

The problem is the bottom. Why do I say this without seeing the issue first hand? Because any one that has gone and had a bottom blueprinted or a good straight bottom knows any of the many changes Art has tried would have made moderate differences when tried. When these changes (these haven't been settle) have little effect the bottom is toast.
If it was me, I would throw out the fuel tank (I would have never put the fuel tank were it is,ever.) and put one in the hull between the stringers, pull the engine and drive, flip the hull over and blueprint it. Then mount the tabs flat and have room to move the engine forward if needed. Artie, sorry to be hard on you but if you want this hull to be safe and work it is the only way to go. P.S. It would be hard to dump the hull only for any good amount of money due to the dirty laundry aired about it here. jeb I thought that last week after the drive heights made no different. said that to the boys on the dock about moving motor/tank. next sand bags to see if tank needs to be moved. these boats were built with the tanks behind the seat for balance and run good with b1 drives singles. twin boats run wider strakes and chine and gas tank between seats floor.bottom of boat has rocker about 8'' back I still think a stearn lifting prop might level the boat out.worst case next year I have to install new gas tank in floor grand, then cut out old new tank repair bulkhead move 4'' other wise my headers will need work another grand.bottom not worried about now. if its straight after the 6 or 8'' to the front. then just grind lay some glass build up sand paint easy. if its more space then yes about 3 grand for a pro to go over it. I hope its a prop and new tank in the floor only. Iwas real close in doing that too. so I would of picked up more room for the blower. theres props without defuser rings longer hubs and these all play with the ride boat gets on plane real easy. I''ll post after tomorrow. |

Just wondering why you think the bottom is no good? As far as I have heard it didnt act like this before his current set up was put together, so something changed for the worse. What would cause the bottom to go bad, being messed with or something? Mine runs and rides great, I get a lot of compliments on it when guys with other boats have ridden on mine.
