anyone sleeping on their boats?

hotjava66 04-28-2011 03:34 PM

I may, depending on who and how many people I bring.

BGIII 04-28-2011 04:49 PM

I will be staying on the boat.

Dan Adams 04-29-2011 06:57 AM

Ya, staying on or at least close to the boats. Park benches can be very inviting.

Ona-Mission 04-29-2011 07:35 PM

I'll probably stay on mine depending on the number of people I have.

We have 11 boats and 9 of them are Sabers. I can't wait for Doug to see so many in one place!

That will be a treat to see them all running together. Looking forward to it!

Its been kind of quiet around here, whats going on everyone? I have finally got most of my spring stuff done, wheeled and waxed the old girl up the last couple evenings, just need to clean the inside and I will be ready to splash. Weather is finally starting to shape up too, really got the bug bad now. Will be out on Memorial weekend if not before. How's everyone else coming along? Looking forward to the run, just need to finalize a few things and we should be looking good. If possible I need an updated head count for Friday and Saturday to make some reservations, so everyone let me know and I will firm everything up. This is going to be fun!

My boat project has been put on hold until i can get through my spring season. I haven't had any spare time. Maybe this is a sign of something positive happening with the economy. Im also moving back to the kawkawlin river soon, so I have to get the house ready to sell and get all my stuff packed. It will be nice to have the my boat in front of the house.

A current count for friday is 7
count for saturday is 11

martins custom marin 05-20-2011 09:21 PM

Ona-Mission 05-22-2011 09:09 AM

what cam and carb? I picked up a few on my ol 24 going from a 850BG to a 1050 nickerson and a shortie drive bringing my propshaft to 5 or 5 1/2'', it was back in 06. boat went from 76 to 83 without a prop change just picked up a lot of rpms.

AIR TIME 05-24-2011 07:42 PM

sounds like fun but it took me 10hrs to get to ohio pick up the blower motor last year, mich where you guys are would be another 5 plus I would think? if its running good by then and my wife wants to go cross country for her 25th wedding anniversary and Dean and Gerry want to go I'm in.

It would be great if you can make it. I think its around 12-13 hours for me to Boston, drove it once years ago. Grand Haven is probably an hour further than I am, so probably 14-15 hours dragging a trailer. That is going thru Canada, its longer going the 80/90 route.

wow so going 80 or /90 is longer. I thought maybe 80 would be. wish I went 90 when I went last yr. but I just lost another week trying to stuff the gas tank behind the seat:grinser010:. I dropped it off for the 3rd time gave in on trying to get the max gas. old tank was 80gals 1st new was 100, second time 88, now looks like 78:eek:. I made a wooden frame to take apart and adjust so its 2 1/2'' off on 2 sides. tank better fit. I just hope I can have it back by next week the latest:party-smiley-004:. had to relocate fuel vent it looks so there paint and extra glass work. but will still shoot for end of june testing. and pray the 5 blades work well with the high x. going to try and get picks up on 101 this weekend. I wish I looked in to saddle tanks on the side like 70gal each. now I am looking at adding a floor tank or under the seat tank or smaller saddles. I want to run some of the long races, like miami to the island and back race or around Long island race chit I would be stopping 3 or 4 times for gas:lolhit:. but right now this tank will do and hope to get at least 2 hours running or 120 to 150 miles for trips up here to the local islands. ones 60miles round trip another is 100 to 120 round trip. I just got to git err done. Art

cam is a isky gring 234 244 610 lift 114 sep and the carb is a bigs performance 1050 ez hopefully this makes the boat idle alot better hated the way it ran last year, i should say hated it below 4000 rpm above that it was awsome but its not a drag boat and it needs to idle

I was just about to recommend Crosswinds to you guys when I read this post. They have an outdoors Tiki-Bar that is nice, but they really need to know that you're coming ahead of time to line up staffing. Last year, if you went to the restaurant/bar, a free slip was offered at the Crosswinds Marina. I don't think anyone cares about noise in Whitehall either!

Have lots of fun you guys!

DISREGARD! I just found out that the Crosswinds restaurant won't be open this summer unless someone takes over and re-opens it. Bummer!

Here in Holland, Boatwerks can provide dockage for quite a few boats. There is a long low dock on the east side that you may not have known about. I'm sure you guys would all be careful with each others hardware. You could easily raft off each other on the West side.
Again, have a good time and be safe!

hotjava66 06-27-2011 06:34 PM

Hi everyone, figure its time for another update on the run. Its been awfully quiet here lately, I hope everyone is doing well and getting in some nice summer boating without any breakdowns etc. The weather sure hasn't cooperated here, but its finally improving. I personally have only been out 4 times, but this weekend put on some serious time, burned more than a tank of fuel(ouch!).

On to the run, I have firmed up reservations for dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday. Friday at 7pm dinner at Dockers in Muskegon, Saturday lunch appx noon at the Shoreline Inn in Muskegon. I know going to Muskegon twice wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but on the flip side its a short run if the lake is acting up, and they were the only places that were confident we would have dockage. Neither one will actually hold slips, despite my best efforts to the contrary, but have assured me they will accomodate us somehow.

Actual run destinations are still up for discussion.
Since I have never boated the area, it will all be new and exciting for me so wherever we go is fine. We can make a gameday decision based on weather if thats OK with everyone. Hard to believe it is less than a month away now, but I am definately looking forward to it and meeting everone.

Another thing I have found out is that Pat is working on, and has tenatively secured a professional photographer to ride along on the run and take pictures of the boats in action. He also will be bringing some Go-Pro style video equipment to mount on a couple of boats. I will let Pat chime in with the details once they are hammered out.

I am hoping to be down to GH either Thursday afternoon or Friday morning to get things in order and meet everyone as they arrive. If anyone has any questions or concerns feel free to PM me and I will give you my # to discuss. Will post again when we get a little closer, but lets get some chatter going here so I know everyone is on board!

jbraun2828 06-27-2011 10:00 PM

I just got a loud exhaust ticket down in Holland a week ago, so you guys might want to stay out of there. Not sure how loud everyone is but water cops sure know how to ruin a good day. Grand Haven has been real lax on noise this year, knock on wood, and Muskegon just doesn't give a chit. On a positive note the lake temp is up to 62 and has been pretty tame so far. I hope to be able to join you guys for one of the days.

martins custom marin 06-28-2011 09:24 PM

I am ready for the run evan though its going to be a busy july with torch for the forth and boyne thunder the following weekend. the boat seems to be be running great, went to muskegon last weekend and ran into the guy behind lake effect boating.com he said the cops were starting to harrass the go fast guys and I did notice them pulling alot of people over.

Dan Adams 06-29-2011 06:35 AM

I haven't had any trouble yet. But ya, they are pulling lots of people. From those I have seen pulled over, it's random.

Does anyone know about slip availability at The Wharf? We are planning on staying on the boat if there is a slip open.

slpcamaross97 07-06-2011 05:57 PM

I believe that slips are going to be limited depending on how many they have available at the time. Overflow will be dry stack from what Pat told me. I know some guys are OK with just stack and don't particularly need a slip. I see a couple options here, either its first come first serve for available slips, or those who for sure are staying on the boat chime in and the rest will give way. You could also call the Wharf and secure a slip on your own. They have been great about accomodating our little gathering, and offering no cost slips, but I am sure a paying customer will come first.

I was planning on staing on the boat so if there is a slip available that's what I was planning on... If all we have is dry rack I will need to figure lodging arangements. I suppose we can figure all that out come Friday??

I believe that mine is #10 based on the hull I.D. (the first 4 numerical digits are 0010) Being somewhat new to OSO, I'm not sure how to post a pic.

Things at the Wharf are fine and we look forward to the Saber Rally. I have set aside spaces for all of us to fit some water some rack but I am sure we will be able provide everyone with whichever they need. I am just curious what the latest count is maybe everybody check in. Thanks Phil

Come on up, we will put you down. We are staging out of the Wharf Marina in Grand Haven MI, there is a public launch close by to get in the water. If you are not staying on the boat you will need to make your own arrangements for accomodation, we havent really put anything together in that regards. Any other questions or info PM me if you need.

That's a good friends boat. Has Hawk 525 SC's. First time it has been wet in about 3 years. I think his OSO handle is ApacheKid. I don't think he is on here that much. The boat runs high 80's

Chris 07-11-2011 01:16 PM
