Chris
I would love to but I have a board meeting scheduled that day! The last two have been rescheduled do to my conflicts...I think three times in a row would be a negative trend!

We have them!

Update!

I've made arrangements for Kevin from Rhino Productions to Video and Take Photos of the event. I'm having them professionally produce a video and will give them out to all who attend. Kevin will be taking running shots and offer them for sale.

I'm looking for volunteers who may be able to offer a seat for the photographers so that they can move to different boats rather then staying on one boat. We will also have at least one GoPro camera and would like to move that around also.

Any volunteers let me know please so that we can make plans.

Thanks
Pat

cwc5775 07-18-2011 11:56 AM

How far from launch ramp to Wharf?

jbraun2828 07-18-2011 12:19 PM

Half a mile at most

Todd Hartigh 07-18-2011 03:25 PM

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&xh...ed=0CBYQ8gEwAA

The Warf is marked in the link. To the north of the marina is the launch. The area with the launch is called Harbor Island.

There used to be some markers to help guide you out of the launch....so here is a tip. About 40' out from all the docks is ok, but anything more and you will be in very shallow water. Just out from the docks is a red buoy. Stay close to the docks and drive out from the center of all docks toward the red buoy and stay just to the right of it. Even if going to the coutesy docks, go out to the buoy, turn right, then turn right heading straight for the courtesy docks. Several try to go from the launch docks to the courtesy docks and end up stuck for a while.

You will pass the courtesy docks when you go to the ramp.

If you go to Spring Lake or the Holiday Inn you will want to be slightly careful. Once under the draw bridge you will see an island in the middle of the channel. Left brings you to Spring lake, Holiday Inn, or up river. If you follow the buoys, you are safe. If you go to the right, it is unmarked and you need to stay near shore and the docks. In front of the island it is very shallow. Many try to cut straight across from Holiday Inn to Grand Isle marina and end up stuck.

I will be in Purple Haze Friday and my Advantage Saturday.

Dan Adams 07-19-2011 11:37 AM

The road to the launch is off 31 or N. Beacon rd. First road south of the drawbridge. If you're heading north on 31 take the first right before the d-bridge, it will take you around and under the bridge. Heading south take 1st right after the bridge, go west 1/4 mile take a right after the soccer field. This dead ends at the launch. Put in, trim up an go straight out from the launch. Go left after the red bouy heading out the channel. Take a hard left after the powerplant, stay left and pass the marina slips. Dead ends at the low 3rd street bridge and the Wharf.
Note; 101 N. Harbor rd. is not the launch.

hotjava66 07-20-2011 09:49 AM

Thanks for the heads up on the launch. Never been there so just google mapped it, sorry for any incorrect info. Two more days, looking forward to it. Weather looks like it should be OK too, chance of a T-storm but that is summer in MI.

Ya, I tried the google map to. The 101 North Harbor dr. may be good for some slips but only by water. Just after the left at the powerplant you will go past charter fish boats on the right. Next on the right are the smaller municipal slips. Usually several are open.

We had a great weekend, great turnout, great weather and Lake Michigan was awesome. We had an outstanding host, Phil Ringelberg (CHASIN THE DEAL) and staff at The Wharf Marina http://www.wharfmarina.com/default.asp and a lot of behind the scenes work from Eric (hotjava66) and Pat (Ona-Mission). Thanks to all of you guys and gals that traveled so far for this weekend. I think it was a great success and it was a real pleasure to meet all of you. I look forward to seeing you all again in the future. If my math is correct, we had 5 single engine 28's, 5 twin engine 28's, 1 - 34 and 1 - 41 plus 3 of those Cigar boats joined us.

We took a few pictures, hopefully others are a little more skilful with the camera and will share some of their photos.

The run turned out great! Good turnuout for the first time, great weather, and some really fun water to run. Good people, good times, and great boats. Thanks to everyone who showed up, it was nice meeting you all. A big thanks to Phil and the staff at the Wharf for the hospitality and hosting the run. You went above and beyond all of our expectations. Thanks also to Doug and Pat from Saber, great to have you guys there. I dont have any pics to post, I was so excited to get out there I forgot my camera. We did have professionals on hand though, when they get their shots together we will get a link posted here. If anyone else on the run has pics or vids, post em up! (PS if there are any of my boat PM me, I would love to have them emailed over) I cant say enough about the group, what a great bunch of guys and gals. For all of you who couldnt make it, dont worry, I think everyone involved wants to make it an annual event.

Thanks to all the Saber clan, (and others) who came out to make this a great event. Thanks especially to Chris K. and Bill G. for a ride and some great "air time" in their boats. I think everyone enjoyed the "Saber water" of Lake Michigan and all the Sabers were still running strong at the end !!

best regards, Doug

Chris 07-25-2011 07:56 AM

I can't thank Doug, Pat, Phil and Eric enough for making this all happen. The hospitality of the wharf is unmatched! Truly one of the best boating weekends we have had! We met a lot great people and hope to keep in touch withe everyone in the future and spend more time with everyone in the near future!

BGIII 07-25-2011 08:03 AM

If you are on facebook, search for Saber Marine and hit the like button. Should be some nice photos showing up on there in the next few weeks. A lot of amateur photos and later some professional ones.

cwc5775 07-25-2011 01:21 PM

We had a great time! Thanks to everyone who put it all together!

wieland77 07-25-2011 01:39 PM

I wanted to express my gratitude to Phil and the WHARF for accomidating us so well and making everyone feel welcome! It sure was nice meeting everyone and getting the unique chance to see more of these awesome boats in action!! I'm already excited to see what we can put together for next time and years to come. I know everyone I was with had a blast and I know I had a permagrin the whole time running with you guys! Look forward to see what good shots and video might have been taken, I know with that kind of water its pretty hard to get a good shot or almost impossible to get a video that is watchable w/o feeling like your on a rollercoaster:drink: (I like roller coasters though:))

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the summer and again, really look forward to seeing what we can do next year!
Bring on the pics! MIKE

Dan Adams 07-25-2011 02:25 PM

You all are great group of people! For me, one of the best days of boating ever! Dan

martins custom marin 07-25-2011 06:10 PM

good people, good weather, good waves. couldnt have been a better weekend, had a great time looking forward to the next rally. thanks phil and the crew at the warf for the royal treatment.

Saber Steve 07-26-2011 09:44 AM

This was truly one of our best experiences since we've owned our boat. Huge thanks to Doug, Pat, and Eric for putting it together.
Phil and his staff did an unbelievable job of accommodating such a large group, as well as maintaining the usual weekend traffic at The Wharf. Thanks for all of your help!
We met alot of great people and can't wait get out together again--even if it's just a few of us at a time.

Cap-N-Grumpy 07-26-2011 10:06 AM

For "Ballistic" Chris, sure while it's broke I here from you every other day. Nice to see a picture of the "Flying Coffin" without a tow rope tied to the bow. Congratulations, you made it threw the weekend, are you smiling?

Chris 07-26-2011 11:06 AM

lol... John we had a great time. In all honesty probably one of the best weekends boating that i can remeber. No doubt i have had my fair share of issues with the boat, i hope to have them all behind me and i can look forward now. Both you and John need to come next year! I will call you later this afternoon!

Dan Adams 07-27-2011 08:51 AM

Keep in mind the vintage of these boats. The youngest of the 28s is 14 years old. The oldest, 25 years. Then consider what kind of water they have hammered through most of their lives.
We had a little 70 mile run in fair size chop with a dozen Sabers. Everyone ran hard and nothing broke. Try it with a dozen old Fountains, Cigs or what have you.
