Official Saber Rally Thread.
I’ve made some confirmations for the Saber Rally. It will be hosted at the Wharf for Friday July 22 nd. Through Sunday July 24th. Phil at the wharf has limited space, however has offered free slips and rack service for all Sabers. Due to the limited space some boats will need to be put on the rack. . Any other boats besides Sabers are welcome to join us during the run, and I will have a conversation with the city marina next door the Wharf about blocking off some space for them.
There is a city ramp with overnight parking within a short distance from The Wharf for anyone who needs it. I’m working on more details for the run including stops, lunch, and lodging, and will post the results as I get them. Although this is still months away, and I’m aware that you may not be able to commit, I’d like to begin getting a roll call so that I can find adequate docking for lunch or dinner, as well as give Phil some idea what’s coming. If you’re reasonably sure you will attend could you please PM me with your RSVP, dock or rack request and manufacture and size boat? Feel free to call my cell for anything, however, please do not call with roll call info, I’d rather be able to keep a hard copy. Thanks for everyone help. This is going to be a great time. LET SUMMER BEGIN AND MAY NO ONE BREAK ANYTIME! Pat 989-233-0878 |
Bill and Renae Gibson RSVP already.

I'm in. I will need- a slip, or a rack, or a hilo, or just a little space to raft off in.
|
Dan,
I have you marked down. Could you pm me with your email and phone?

Doug is in. He will be camping the week prior to the weekend and will be able to meet us at about noon on Saturday.

This is not an official plan, But I'd like to get input. Bill came up with a great idea. On friday evening or sunday afternoon, making a short trip to Muskegon. I'd like to get an idea what would work with everyone schedule. Do most of you plan to come in early on Friday and want to go to Muskegon for dinner, or would you rather leave later on sunday and go to Muskegon for lunch.
I can also see saturday going something like this.... If no one is opposed to waiting for Doug, we leave Grand Haven about noon, head south to Saugatuck 30 mile for lunch. After lunch head north and find a local hang out to raft or beach maybe in one of the lakes along the way. Do you locals have any suggestions? and are there more sights that you think the people from out of town would like to see? I know the west side of the state has some incredible view, but im not familiar with that area. People from out of town??? If you have never seen that side of the state it is by far the most beautiful side of the state (in my opinion) Are there any sights that you have always wanted to see that maybe we can make part of this run? |

Agreed. no trips to hanky pank! As of now if I am able to I plan on coming on Fri and leave about noon on Sun. Hopefully the lake doesn't get too out of control because springlake is a suck ass no wake zone...

Muskegon is a very short trip from Gr Haven. 10mins or so.
Saugatuck is a nice area along with South Haven which isnt much further. Holland is on the way back about 20 miles south of Grand Haven. Also a nice little lake called Pigeon Lake is between Gr Haven and Holland, very clean water with a small beach. Going north, as mentioned white lake is nice. Silver lake is probably about a hour drive at least from Grand Haven. Farther north is Pentwater which is a beautiful area one of my favorites. Lots of options just depends how much fuel everyone wants to burn. The only bad thing about Lake Mi is there really isnt anywhere you can drive your boat up on to shore to park and hang out. Lake temp never gets too much over 70 degrees either. Along the way you will see many spots where several boats are achored off. I just hope the noise police around here doesn't hassle anyone, you never know what kind of mood there going to be in. |
mid july water temp is usally half way bareable if its calm and there is sand bars to anchore on and wade up to shore but we will be at the mercy of the waves.
|
Thanks for everyone input. Keep it coming. I know Eric has been working on a couple things, and one of us will post the results.
|
Progress update: I have tenatively arranged for a dinner at Dockers in Muskegon for Friday night July 22. If that is OK with everyone I would like a head count of who plans on being with us for dinner on Friday. I am still working on a lunch stop for Saturday, have made a few calls to some spots in Saugatuck, looks like it may be tough to secure a spot for a big group. If I cant secure anything does anyone have an alternative, or idea on where we could go? Feel free to PM me with RSVP or any info, or give me a call (989)450-4256.

boatwerks on lake macatawa in holland or maybe crosswinds on white lake
|
I will plan to be there for Friday evening. MIKE
|
Yes, I'm in for Friday.
|
Eric, i am for friday
|
I will be there Friday.

Ok, I need some local info. After several calls, it seems that no one in Saugatuck is willing to guarantee us dock space for lunch. Suggested we raft of in the river and wade or dingy in, is that a viable option? Sounds like a pain to me, and I am sure none of us is packing a dingy around lol. I checked out Boatwerks website, looks like a nice place, anyone been there?
|
Yes, I've been there. Nice place, fancy upscale Holland. But may want to call about the dockage. Looks big in the pic but it was tight getting a 38 an a 42 docked on the east side. Not sure if the rest of the wall is suitable.
I know it's still on Muskegon Lake as is Dockers, but for a crowd the Shoreline Inn might be the ticket. It's a Marina, out door restaurant, hotel. Mr. Rooks owns it. He's a go fast boater, has a 50 Hustler at the Wharf,,,think he owns the wharf property to. Only problem is we haven't gone anywhere. How about Milwaukee? I think it's 83 miles. |

So far I'm still in. Plan on bringing my engine builder and wife since they live there lol. As of now (work permitting) I plan on leaving around 9 Fri morn. Maybe meet up with someone and caravan???
|
This is gonna be fun, good call Eric and Pat

I can make Shoreline/Lake House work if we decide to do the Muskegon thing.. I also could get good rate at Shoreline Inn for people wanting rooms. Shoreline is about 17 mins by car from the Wharf..... Just an idea!

Milwaukee - Grand Haven 90 miles

Thanks Downtown, my mistake. I should be more careful about posting miles.
