Thanks satisfaction.

I purchased it in 2002 from someone locally in MI. He bought bought it 5 years prior out of Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Beach area. She's an old saltwater boat and needed a little TLC. I really didn't need to do anything for the first few years I owned it. The always reliable 425's started eveyday and all I did was add gas and oil. So I decided she needed a little updating. I have loved the oldschool flat deck Scarabs since my parents took me to my first offshore race in the '80s in Grand Haven, MI. This was some of the first inspiration to stay in school and get an education cause one of these days I was going to get me one of them Scarabs. (cheesy I know, but totally true).

First thing I did was paint it with the WILD and never outdating graffics you see.

The pitted drives needed to be sanded down and back end needed to be cleaned up.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...one/WKback.jpg

and her name needed a little updated font. and drives painted white.

Next the engines needed a little cleaning up. I hate saltwater!!

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...ne/WKpower.jpg

A little sand blasting and some powder coating.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...e/newpower.jpg

Interior was fading and a little stiff and just plain out HOT in the summer.
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e395/jay2one/WK3.jpg

Trying to keep it simple with white and red. The front bolsters are getting done this winter. There is red piping around the sun pad.

This past summer I had a valve seat crack and drop. I think due to bad gas and pushing her a to little hard. And holes and pistons don't go together.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...e/DSCF0149.jpg

So why not build a couple Solid Roller 470ci BBC's? That sounds like a great plan. :ernaehrung004:

SRP pistons 0.070" over pistons. 9.6:1 with 124cc chamber head.

Merlin wedged and fully ported heads. They flow 377cfm intake and 268cfm exhaust at 0.650" lift.

Rookie 02-24-2008 12:30 PM

2.30" intake 1.88" exhaust with xx degree back cut.

0.630" lift Intake and Exhaust 252 264 duration cam with Scorpion 1.7 rockers, with Isky solid roller lifters.

with Holley Barry Grant carbs. Do not know the size of carbs.

Rookie 02-24-2008 12:42 PM

I now have removed the Drew Marine Sidewinders (for sale) and now going to install a closed hydraulic Capilano helm style system. and new throttles.

An thats about it. :cool-smiley-011:

Rookie - Did Jim Valakeo wedge your heads?
He did two sets for me. They sure made a difference in HP.
I am now running two sets of his tricked out PRO 1's.
He sure does great work.

Yes JimV did the heads and picked out the cam. He is the sh!t when it comes to grinding metal out of heads. That is actually Jims shop in the back ground. Jim has been great to me he has gone out of his way helping me rebuild this engine. He let me build it in his shop and looked over everything I did. I am going to be starting the 2nd engine this weekend, and going to the dyno in the next couple of weeks.

You going to be getting your boat out this year? I think the last time I saw it was at Party on the Pond a couple of years ago. As I recall that thing sounds sick!

Tinkerer 04-05-2008 09:18 AM

Yes I plan on getting it out this year. I am in the process of building a toy box right now. As soon as that is done then I will get to work on the SCARAB. I plan on making a few changes this year. Where is Jim's shop now? Who is going to dyno your engines?

jaxx 30 04-06-2008 09:59 AM

If someone can tell me how to post pics I'll throw mine up.

When he came back from Florida he opened a shop on 28th street between Burlingame and Wilson. Right behind the old Henderson autoglass.

I think we are going to Tom's. Jim is going to take his 565 and I said I wanted to dyno mine. I just want to see what that 565 pulls, its got to be close to 800HP naturally aspirated.

If you use a picture hosting site such as photobucket you can upload them to this site. or you can pay the $45 and become a member.

Tinkerer 04-06-2008 03:05 PM

My Scarab 300.

Rookie 04-06-2008 05:28 PM

I am going to call him tomorrow and find out. Last week he said we would dyno them in 2 weeks. So I assume sometime this week or next at the latest. I'm like a little kid I want to see the power he is making, he has that Fountain running almost 100 and I think he was running 103 with the blower. I have an Idea on the power I'm making he had dyno sheets on a 509 and a 540 with the same set up I have. 1.34HP/CI @5800RPM.

I'll let you know when we go.

Tinkerer 04-06-2008 07:46 PM

Thanks...

Thanks! I'll be in touch. Maybe sometime I can get it down to San Diego after I get things in order. I like what you did on your dash-I may go the same route.

This one?

http://inlinethumb27.webshots.com/39...600x600Q85.jpg

And yeah, the beaters are all white as well. I did it myself in imron. The interior is also mostly white with accents in light grey and royal blue, also done 100% by myself... Kinda look like this:

Anyway he was tied up and a '70s or '80s jet boat ran into the side by the bow. He yelled at the idiot for not knowing how to drive a boat. But the Scarab only had a small scratch on the bow, but the jet boats front 4" on nose was folded over.It was classic. I of course was rolling a 1987 Kawasaki Jet Ski 650sx at the time.......Mike
