Switchable Exhaust?
#1
Got one for ya guys.
I'm sure everyone knows my boat by now.
1996 26' Scarab W/ 502 MPI.
Anyway, my boat did not come w/ a switchable exhaust system. Bought it used. I have been looking at some systems in the classified section here on OSO but don't know if they will work or not. If so, I don't know what I need. Can you guys help.
My exhaust exits vertically down below the swim platform at each corner of my boat.
It has two large canisters,(I assume baffles of some sort)one on each side, in line right before it exits the boat.
Is there anyway to make it run around these baffles? Or do I need to have it exit in a seperate place.
Scarab26 any ideas? You have the same rig, just different exhaust from the factory.

Buck,
Just a suggestion , but I would rerig the way the exhaust is on that boat. I'm only saying this because if you plan on doing any power upgrades which usually start with the exhaust , it will be easier just having the
exhaust exiting straight out. (Plus you can buy my switchable mufflers and Stainless Marines manifolds!)
I'm sure that is not the anwer you wanted to hear but it's only some glasswork and cutting new holes

I was thinking about going that way. I kind of doubt I'll be doing any serious upgrades on this boat. I have a feeling I'll use it for a couple of years and look to upgrade to something else.
Still open to suggestions on how to convert the exhaust though.

Buck ,
it should be an easy convert. Other than the glasswork. I don't remember what the riser/elbows look like on that particular set up . If you are staying with the stock stuff
you should be able to get the stock risers and run them straight back. Then you can use
the switchable mufflers that I have for sale(shameless plug!) .
But why go through all that if you don't plan on upgrading ? I don't think you will see any
performance gains .

If you're really serious about it, call Corsa Performance. They made me a pair of custom cut-outs to get around my swim platform. I was satisfied with their product, and even had the pleasure of talking to Jim Browning (Pres.) about my situation. They seem knowledgable about most of the hull styles and exhaust systems in use, so they should be able to put something together that'll work for you.
One word of caution: If you end up doing the installation yourself, be SUPER careful to measure properly before taking a saw to your transom. Remember- "Measure twice, Cut once".

That's my thing right now. I would like to find something that will use the existing exits I have right now. May I'm being picky. If I could find something that will replace what I have without doing any cutting or glass work that would be prefered.

Hey, give 'em a call- maybe they've done something like this for other customers. If you need contact info for Corsa, I can look it up for you. As I recall, they're in Ohio.
Hate to say it, but 26scarab is probably right- you won't notice any performance gain by just changing to a thru hull exhaust. At least, that was the case when I put 'em on my small block. At least they make it sound cool.
