Al Shapiro's old Team Scarab 26 is getting restored I guess. Great to see these rare boats show up here and there. Mike Jenkins wrote way back on OSO:

"Re: Scarab 26 Hull OriginThe First 26ft boat built was a classic flat deck built in 1985 for Tom Gentry and is in storage in Hawaii.
1 boat built in 1986
2 boats built in 1987
2 boats built in 1988 (Mine) and another.
2 boats built in 1990 1 went to Guam, 1 to Sweden, "European A Class"
Then Nigel Hooks World Champion "A" Boat and 3
other NonStep "A" Boats.
The mold was reworked and the F! step bottom boats were built, Bob Christies and 5 others.
The mold is in storage as far as I know.
Mike J."
P.S. Though some interesting info is provided in above quote by Mike Jenkins, there were additional boats built these years as is verified below by Dan at Archer Marine. D.S.

The owner of Shapiro's boat is in Illinois and claims it to be a 1986 build, but so does the owner of late George Werner's 26? I would guess Werner's boat is counted as one of the two 1987 boats, since Shapiro raced his in 1986 and Werner didn't 'till 1987? They're such cool boats. Glad Speedster Powerboats are building them again at legendary Archer Marine in Costa Mesa, California.

Actually there were 2 built in 85 , 5 in 86 Conley, Shapiro, and Werner the other 2 one was a center consul and the other was a special project with Chevrolet it had 2 V6's in it. 4 in 87 and so on. I have the hand written HIN number sheet that Warren Robbins to kept track of the hulls built in the shop back in the day.

Thank You Dan. Nothing like a meticulously organized operation. Very interesting to see that they built a few center consoles of the 26 early on. The one I saw at the Dunes and posted about here previously was a 1988 build.

Stunning looking boat and then while I was sticking around hoping to meet the owner, since somebody seemed to be working on her, I saw the Scarab Performance Craft HIN, SQE and was very surprised to say the least. Didn't know you guys had built 26 CC's, but I had heard from a friend that the first open Scarab had been for a Mr. Hansen in the Bay area in 1976. It was the second Scarab 9 Meter Hansen had ordered in two years and he wanted it for fishing. Here's Hansen's first 9 Meter, she's a 1975.

Just an FYI I have Gene Werner's LS 26' in Northern California - it's been a restoration project that's been put on hold due to other projects - I'm hoping to start on it in a few weeks - 509 motor is back from the shop - just waiting for a gimbal assembly and it'll be put back together!!!

The twin Arneson boat is sold without motors I guess. The main question for a potential buyer would be how well the repair of the boat was done after its accident almost 30 years ago?
Discussion about the boat here on OSO a few years back: Post your Oldschool ride!
BoatTrader ad; "1981 Team Scarab 100% Kevlar/epoxy resin, hand laid by Larry Smith of Team Scarab Racing. This is not a Wellcraft. This is a professionally rigged purpose built race boat. Incredibly strong and light. Arneson surface drive. Velvet V-drive transmissions. Less power. 400 horsepower Chevy small blocks will get you 85 MPH. Three pair of stainless racing props. Nice triple axle trailer. All the best equipment. (Fout $900 Mercruiser Racing trim pumps for instance). Call for info. $22,500. (415) 308-30three2. Chris"
